Clawson's 1905 Restaurant

Tasty and crowd-pleasing! I had the shrimp and grits-so yummy and loaded with all the things (onion, bacon, cheese, peppers) ! Plenty for lunch! The gluten eaters loved their crab cakes, burgers, salad, and flounder! Good drinks too!

From the other reviews, I expected several options, but the menu only had 4 GF dishes and some sides. Two of the dishes were salads, one was a Mahi entree, and the shrimp & grits. One of the salads was also served with the Mahi, so the menu was VERY limited. The ribs and pulled pork BBQ were not marked as GF, but typically are at most restaurants. Our server did not seem particularly knowledgeable beyond what was indicated on the menu. There was also a disclaimer at the bottom that stated they are not a GF facility and could not guarantee against cross contamination.

The gluten free options are all clearly marked on the menu, basically all of the sides except for fries and chips (which are gluten free but not made in dedicated frier, so stay away from if you’re celiac) are gluten free. The waitress was very knowledgeable and offered to have the food brought out separately from the other meals. I ordered an angus burger with veggies. I have Celiac and am very sensitive to gluten and did not get sick. The burger was the best one I’ve had on my vacation yet and the veggies were also amazing!

Staff is knowledgeable and helpful and there are several GF items noted on the menu. But no GF rolls for burgers, and no dedicated fryer leaving their good fries and chips out of reach.

I had the shrimp and grits, it was delicious! They were out of the ribs today so that was a bummer. Menu states what is gluten free. Menu CLEARLY states the chips and fries are not gluten free due to not having a dedicated dryer (not sure why it is listed here as having a dedicated dryer.). Wings are also not marked as gluten free on the menu.

Not gluten free. Had chips and ranch and a burger with no bun and was sick for WEEKS. The menu is false and they cook GF good in oil that is not gluten free

I enjoyed the spinach salad with chicken, and chose the delicious balsamic vinaigrette. Menu is marked with gf items, but the majority of items are in the salad section. All their items are made in house, making it more memorable. It's in an old building, so that adds to atmosphere. Decent prices.

They no longer have a GF fryer. The seafood entrées tasted bland. One of the burgers, sans bun, or something from the grill are your best options. Staff is friendly and helpful.

The menu says otherwise, but there IS a dedicated gf fryer. Wings, fries, chips, steak, ribs are all on the gf menu. Wings were awesome! So tender.
