Yummy lunch. I am allergic to gluten, dairy, soy & several preservatives. The staff person checked everything for me. I had a burger on a GF bun with hand made fries cooked in a dedicated fryer. There aren’t tons of choices when you have multiple allergies, but what I had was good, I felt safe & did not get sick.

The most amazing lunch! I wish we lived here and weren’t just visiting for the weekend. Delicious bbq pork on gf brioche bread (they make in house) amazing celiac safe fries, salad and croutons safe - just a really delicious spot AND our server was fantastic.

They also have gluten free desserts!

Food was delicious. Ate here w my celiac daughter. Almost entirely gluten free except for bread that they purchase offsite so no flour in restaurant. Waiter was knowledgeable, my daughter love her fried chicken. My burger was good. I got the gluten free bun in case my daughter wanted to try it. It was a little crumbly but good flavor.

Food is great. Staff is super knowledgeable. Almost everything is gluten free to begin with and everything else can be made gluten free by substituting gluten free bread/buns. Restaurant is so gf friendly because the owner is gluten intolerant. Things are not labeled because they don’t want to scare off non-gf customers.

Great experience! They don’t advertise that they are pretty much a gluten free establishment because they don’t want to scare off people who do not understand what that means. The menu is pretty much 100% gluten free. The only gluten items in house are the buns/breads that they use for non gluten free meals. They were all very aware of Celiac Disease. The owner is gluten intolerant. We had the calamari, pastrami sandwich, burger, fried chicken sandwich, fries, chocolate mousse, blondie, blueberry cheesecake. All were amazing! The buns fall apart a bit, but what gf doesn’t! ;) Could not recommended this place enough!

Great place, friendly & knowledgeable staff, warm atmosphere. & entire menu is GF. Everything is GF.(with the exception of store bought buns & wraps that are kept packaged, so no cc. they have GF buns & wraps too)

4/24/22 went for brunch. Fantastic chicken & waffles I had the French toast-was tasty but my husband’s waffle was better. Lol

Dark Horse is the best. The calamari is my absolute favorite! The desserts are amazing too (they have coconut ice cream for a substitute)

What was always a sure thing for my Celiac family to eat at in the past, is not quite the same these days. We have been quite displeased the last two visits we had at the Dark Horse. A very limited menu has even become a more limited menu. Few options, no specials, and still out of choices on menu. Ordered crab cakes; were barely cooked, and pricey. Ordered fried calamari; very small portion for high price. Ordered salmon; extremely distasteful and not cooked at all. Ordered steamed mussels in wine sauce; no seasoning, not a remote taste of wine and extremely salty!!! Before even eating half of the portion, had to stop due to the salt as ms fishy taste. Was always told that all meals are gf except for a regular hamburger bun. Was served mussels with regular toast all over meal. As a result my husband could not share my meal due to his Celiacs.

Whole menu is gf and delicious!

I had my first ever gluten free soft shell crab sandwich and it was AMAZING! The only gluten they really have in the kitchen is bread but it's separate. They make their GF bread. The gluten bread is purchased so it never has to come out onto a countertop space or cutting board. The server was so knowledgeable. Got my water with a plastic straw for concern about potential gluten in paper straws. Will definitely come back!!

Absolutely loved the menu, I believe everything can be made gluten free. I’m so used to finding the same options at most of the restaurants I go to and this place just had such variety I don’t normally see. Got the corn chowder which I highly recommend and the risotto balls which I barely find as a celiac safe option. Also loved the decor of the place, there’s a fireplace above your head and it’s so interesting

Staff very knowledgeable. Owner is Gluten intolerant. Almost everything on the menu is GF ingredients and prep. They make everything from scratch. Great little place for take out or back patio outside dining.

I asked for the GF menu when we sat down and our waitress said “you’re looking at it! Everything in our restaurant is already GF, I promise.” We got so many amazing things!! Crab cakes, lobster mac and cheese, sea bass. Even the bread at the beginning of the meal! (Corn bread) All were delicious and I felt great afterwards. 10/10 will be back!

Our waiter Ross was hilarious and I was excited to find out everything was gluten free made my first trip out to Riverhead a pleasant one. I will definitely be back! I recommend soup sampler, calamari, and the steak !
