Multiple people died from food poisoning here… can’t believe how many good reviews they’re trying to cover it up with

Two individuals died and three were hospitalized after eating at Dave’s Sushi in Bozeman on April 17, 2023 and becoming ill from suspected foodborne causes. I don’t have anything to report regarding the gluten safety, but I wouldn’t trust this establishment.

Daves is my favorite place to go! I can eat 99% of what is on the menu here. They do use the same fryer for everything but, ive never once been sick. They have gluten free soy and their menu is marked very well. All the wait staff is very knowledgeable of their me u and what you can or cant have.

I had the California roll with GF soy sauce and it was great. No adverse reaction! Update - ate at Dave’s again in 3/22 and was still great with no reaction!

Staff was great and offered us gluten-free alternates for sauces. Also warned us that fried items were cooked in a non-dedicated fryer. Best sushi we've had. Plenty of Celiac-friendly choices.

I know what your thinking: sushi in a landlocked state, but trust me it was good. Did not get sick.

Dave’s sushi was super tasty! We were hesitant at first because how could sushi be tasty and fresh in the middle of nowhere? But it was absolutely fresh and tasty! GF tamari available. Celiac safe.

Service was great! She made sure to tell the chefs to use new knives and cutting board. Sushi was fresh. Definitely one of my favorite spots.

Staff is very helpful and I never get sick. Just don’t order anything fried.

Knowledge staff - let them know up front you have allergens or celiac- they will help you pick out items and food that is safe. The kitchen is clean, and the only risk of contamination is the fryer, which is a no-brainer for us Celiac. Overall TASTY TASTY sushi - best I’ve ever had.

We all have our favorite sushi spot and our favorite sushi items, so eating sushi while traveling is a bit of an added adventure. Looking for a gluten free sushi spot with excellent reviews is often met with blank stares in the car followed by a discussion about it “not being worth the risk.”
Dave’s Sushi has great reviews on every review site we checked. So, we went for it.
Excellent! The waitress was fantastic. The food was delectable. They have tons of gluten free options and gluten soy sauce AND gluten free desserts!
We ordered four different types of rolls and liked every single one with Christmas Showers being our favorite. Our son got Ikura (salmon roe) which he ate but did not like because it seems many American sushi joints use marinated roe. He prefers it plain. This was the ONLY food we didn’t instantly love.
Our waitress was prompt, attentive and fun. She knew we had just finished hiking and kept our water glasses full. She gave us great recommendations and checked with the chef on the gluten potential in one of the desserts. We got seated within 5 minutes or arriving and the food came out fast considering it was a packed house.
We would definitely go back.
Awesome sushi! Staff is very accommodating and allergens are easy to spot.
Sometime, along with their addition, they re-did their menu and now it calls out allergens right on it. Super easy to see what is safe and what isn't, remember to ask for gluten free tamari.

Friendly and knowledgeable staff. I eat here weekly, sometimes multiple times in a week and can assure that the kitchen goes above and beyond to prepare a safe and delicious meal.
I have gotten sick there 2 times. The first time after I had a fried roll and had been told they had a dedicated fryer. I learned the next time that I came in that their fryer was not dedicated gluten free and would depend on who was working and whether it had been cleaned as to whether there would be cross contamination. So that evening I didn't order anything fried, and explained the need for no cross contamination and then ordered Tamari - gluten free soy, which they brought out the special container that designates that sauce. I got violently ill and have been sick for well over a week with celiac symptoms since eating at Dave's the last time. I won't take a chance on eating there again until they train their staff better. I obviously got a very large dose of gluten and the only thing I can imagine is somehow the soy sauce was not correct.
They have GF soy sauce (tamari) and staff is really knowledgeable about GF. Tempura batter is GF, but the fryers are not.
Yes
Great sushi, the chefs will do gluten free if you ask. This place fills up fast so call ahead if you want to get in for dinner, we didn't but still waited 45 minutes because it is that good!
