Review of Dog Watch Cafe

Even though the reviews on this site gave me pause, it was a beautiful day, we managed to get outdoor seating, and the place overall gets good reviews so… we tried it. They only had a couple of things on the menu that were marked GF, but usually I can make it work by asking some questions and asking for substitutions. Plus lots of restaurants are kind enough to state right on the menu how to make it GF. I asked the server about the scallops and risotto, wondering why that wouldn’t be GF and she kind of shrugged so I requested that she go back to the kitchen and ask for clarification. When she returned she told me that they use flour in the roux. I’m Italian, and have never made risotto with a roux, but whatever. In the end, I ordered a salad and added seared scallops - and it was just delicious. But the salad was not marked GF - why? - the server said the candied pecans on it had gluten. How hard would that be to add that tiny comment to the menu?!? Bottom line is, it was delicious food (my non-GF hubby had the tuna) and setting but I don’t think I’d go here if I were celiac.
