Background: Doraku was my favorite restaurant prior to be GF. Unfortunately, GF has ruined it for me (not their fault).

It is one of those restaurants where they can (and will) accommodate to GF restrictions but:

- they charge $1.5 for gluten free soy sauce

- the result of the substitutions to their original dishes results in tasteless dishes

- if you want to stick to dishes that were designed without Gluten ingredients (see my previous point): you only have a couple of options in the 6 page long menu.

Again, Doraku was my favorite restaurant prior to be GF and I think it is a good restaurant. I have just come to accept that GF Doraku is just not good/tasty food. I'll stick to my good memories of it :)

This place should not even be listed as GF. They have no menu and are not gluten aware. I visited because they were in the app. I talked to the waiter in a very careful way about my requirements. After eating a piece of sushi and realizing there was soy sauce on the bottom, I promptly left. I am sure I will be sick soon.

The chef was super accommodating- I spoke to the server, figuring I'd be consigned to edamame for dinner... He worked with the chef to create original dishes that were safely prepared... Totally amazing.

Very good sushi for non-celiac, but very limited choices if have celiac. Can only eat pieces, which were good, but wish they had some sauces for sushi that were GF free. They do have GF soy sauce.

We had incredible service - would honestly come back just for that.

Note that all sushi rice is NOT gluten free. They can make rolls with plain rice id you’d like.

We had some sashimi, one of the deluxe rolls (without rice) and asked for sauce on the side. We also had the grilled squid & the shishito peppers, just with their sauces on the side (husband ate with sauce).

Servers very knowledgeable and made it a great experience.

**the regular sushi rice contains shoyu and is not GF** They can make separate rice upon request. They seemed fairly knowledgeable. I got chirashi don which they modified and I didn’t have a reaction.

Server was knowledgeable. He was able to talk through my options, and was willing to double check items with the kitchen. I had the sushi-sashimi combo, and the shishito peppers (they subbed the sauce), and brought out tamari for my sushi. I think they must have changed how they create their rice (from other reviews saying it was made with shoyu) as it was gluten free. I didn’t have any reaction.

I was skeptical to come here bc of other reviews - but ate at the Waikiki location last night and had a great experience! The sushi rice was gluten free, and they also have gluten free Tamari. If you go here I would recommend double checking in case things change (esp location to location). Most of the bowls have sauce which is not gf, but they said they could sub for the gf Tamari. I had the half shelf oysters, Sushi + Sashimi combo and mochi ice cream for dessert. I have celiac and am sensitive to cross contamination, and from my experience it was safe/delicious 😋
