Same experience as Brittany. My girlfriend is sensitive to gluten and she really couldn’t eat anything tonight — not even the sashimi which was served with crunch on top. I think the sushi chef considers himself more of an artist and uses what he has that’s on hand and fresh rather than following strict rules for each roll’s ingredients. I like that, but unfortunately my girlfriend literally could not eat anything there. Good food (I have no allergies), but definitely not for gluten free or other food allergy folks due to likely a language barrier.

It’s a sushi only restaurant run by a very nice son and mother, however there are limited gluten free options. Most of the specialty rolls have some kind of tempura in them. When I asked about making the specialty roll I picked gluten free, he immediately said the eel sauce on all the rolls has gluten, but was a little surprised when I asked for the roll without. When I got the roll, it still had panko crumbs on it. I’m not sure if they were gluten free or not. Since I’m only slightly gluten sensitive, it wasn’t particularly hard for me to still eat there, but other people might have a real issue. The menu also doesn’t list all the extras he adds to the rolls, such as cream cheese on top and fresh fruit (particularly strawberries), so it’s not very good for other sensitivities or allergies either. And he dresses up almost all the rolls. We got an avocado roll for my son, and it came out with purple potato rice, toppings, and eel sauce (delicious, but not what my son wanted). My husband’s California roll came out with a different flavored rice, lots of toppings including strawberries, and eel sauce. I think the chef would have made any of the rolls regular if we had asked, but you have to very clearly specify. Like I said, he was a very nice man, but I’m not sure he fully understood what gluten free meant. He still tried to be accommodating, though. And the sushi was tasty, if different than any other kind I’ve had, and also ridiculously cheap for ABQ.
