despite NOT having a dedicated fryer, they still label their chips GF (which obviously they wouldn’t be GF). Staff is not very knowledgeable

Used to be one of my families (all celiac) favorite restaurants. We used to eat here at least once a month if not more but then something happened with management/ownership behind the scenes and we started getting sick. We gave it two more chances after that and got sick both times. I also had a terrible experience where after telling the waitress that messed up my sisters order that she couldn’t just take the gluten off the plate and had to remake it, she bought out her boss? Who screamed at me that if I wanted gluten free food that I had to tell them everything to take off (I did, the waitress messed up btw). I ended up having a panic attack and seizure from stress in front of the entire restaurant. Staff other then the waitress and cook involved was apologetic but safe to say I’m never going back.
Future edit: Because it was the only Mexican option in the area gave it another try, this time brought my service dog who detects gluten, he did not clear the food. Unfortunately something seems to have happened behind the scenes that has effected the safety of this establishment.

First time here. Seemed to be a bit of a wait before server showed up. He never told me his name or even smiled. And he was clueless about what had gluten and what didnt.
I had the small combo plate. The tostada was good. The taco was just ground seasoned meat in s shell. The enchilada was dull.
The server did refill my drink but I was not impressed with him
If I return, I would stick to tostadas.
We order from El Mariachi all the time with celiac, gluten and dairy intolerance and soy allergies in the family. We have never had any issues or felt sick. We order soft corn tortillas with tacos, fajitas and open enchiladas and guacamole. The fryer also does chimichangas with flour tortillas so we stay away from the homemade chips and hard shells. When we order out I use my own chips and when we eat in I just bring some with me. If you talk to the right person they can help you navigate the menu. Four stars just because there isn't dedicated gf on the menu. Best Mexican food we have found in the area!
I would give this place 5 stars for their food, but their staff isn't that aware of gluten-free options. I'm celiac & there's a few items I always get... Their guacamole is SO good - no other Guac compares. I've seen people carry out buckets of it on holidays to serve at their homes. I get their chicken & steak combo fajitas on corn tortillas and like their Guac, no where in Michigan compares. Their agave margarita is fabulous. El Mariachi has the BEST Mexican food around by far... It would just be better if their staff knew of more options.
