Whenever I go to the DC area I make a point to stop here. Very aware and careful. Her food is delicious! We always have the vegetarian combo so I can’t speak to the meat dishes but a friend who was with me like them.
I was offered a complimentary samosa by mistake but no problem when I declined.
The owner is a lovely woman from Eritrea and goes out of her way to make you feel a valued guest. One time I stopped in she had not been able to get GF injera from her supplier and she was very apologetic.
I highly recommend!

My wife and I enjoyed eating at Elilta Restaurant. The chef was very kind and prepared the food in a timely fashion. We ordered the awaze and the yebeg tibs and they were both amazing. Also, my wife has celiac disease and the chef was able to accommodate by giving us 100% teff injera. Looking forward to visiting MD again so we can return to this restaurant.

My brother with celiac has eaten here before, no problem with contamination. We told them we are GF when we ordered. They were out of lamb, so we got 2 beef entrées. They're served on a shared platter of injera (made with GF teff flour) and extra injera on the side. You are supposed to eat it by picking up/rolling the food into the injera. Very delicious! The owners/cooks are hospitable. And don't forget traditional Ethiopian coffee!!
