Fong’s is the best!!! Incredible, creative pizzas on the best gluten free crust I’ve ever had. Our server, Molly, took special care to notify the kitchen of the severity of my Celiac, and they put the pizza on parchment in the oven so that no surfaces are shared. Awesome experience.

Traveling through DSM and hadn’t been back to Fong’s in years. Got the loaded baked potato with Graziano sausage and it was awesome and NO reactions! ***Warning - Not all Fong’s locations offer GF pizza. Some only offer gluten free TOPPINGS.*** Read the menu carefully and clarify when ordering so that your item must be entirely gluten free.

The most amazing GF pizza I’ve had in my 4 years of being GF. It is also the first restaurant that offered GF cheese sticks. It was so delicious that I almost spit my first bite out thinking they had made a mistake. No mistake it was that yummy!!!! 10/10 recommend. Some of the staff were more helpful than others.

Excellent Gluten-free pizza options! Kung Pao, Iowan, Meatzilla, and lots more. The GF crust is actually thick. They also have gluten free cheesy bread and wieners for appetizers. I have Celiac Disease and Fong's Pizza is one of the best gluten-free pizzas I've ever had! Love dining at Fong’s (pricey for pizza though but well worth it).

A regular spot for us. We love Fongs. Tons of options and I can’t think of a time I’ve ever been sick here. I have Celiac and they have always been very accommodating.

Fantastic gluten free pizza. Probably the best GF crust I've ever had from a restaurant. The bacon popper pizza was ridiculously good too!

I feel like it’s hit or miss. I have definitely felt sick after eating here a few times. I have ate here a lot though and I would say most of the time it’s fine.

Gluten free options are marked on the menu and GF crust is available on most pizzas and it’s the best GF crust I’ve had! Our waiter checked with the kitchen about my questions and made sure the toppings for my pizza were GF. Great experience!

We saw the awesome reviews and thought we would be safe eating here as we passed through on a road trip. I am not sure what happened but my daughter and I both have Celiac and had their baked potato pizza and got super sick! We stopped at a rest stop and spent an hour and a half throwing up. Have never been that sick since going gf! It HAD to have been gluten crust. There’s no way with being that sick that it was cross contamination. We were very specific about being Celiac and that we couldn’t have gluten and no cross contamination. Put a damper on our trip that’s for sure!
No
Waitress made us feel comfortable about cross-contamination, while acknowledging that there is flour in the kitchen. Great food, experience.
Yes
Update: I have received some additional information regarding processes used to to prevent cross contamination. Seems like they do take this seriously. As such I'm upgrading my star rating to about the current average so that their overall rating is not affected by these observations. If you decide to eat here, and have celiac disease or are otherwise sensitive, I would suggest verifying cross contamination prevention steps prior to dining.
Original Review: I have not eaten at Fong's, but contacted the manager at the Ankeny location to ask about what procedures were in place to prevent cross contamination and I received this response...
"I have to be honest with you that there is gluten in the air in our kitchen. We use lots of flour when we are building our pizzas. Even though gluten free pizzas aren't made right next to our other pizzas, it has the potential of getting flour on it. We do also use a clean pizza cutter that is dedicated to gluten free pizzas but it also has the same
potential of getting flour from the air on it."
So... A dedicated pizza cutter it is. Wow. I'm floored that this is, currently, one of the highest rated gluten free restaurants in the Des Moines area on Find Me Gluten Free.
Food was amazingly delicious!!! Staff was great and knowledgeable about GF

Their pizza is delicious and safe to eat!

I had the honey garlic pizza on GF crust and it was good! The crust was thin (as most every GF crust out there) and it didn't taste like cardboard, so I was a happy girl. I have celiacs, which I was sure to let them know, and I did not get sick. Their menu is marked with items that are GF or can be made GF, which was really helpful. There are no type of GF appetizers or desserts, tho. So that was a bummer. I will go back again to try some of the other flavors.
Yes
They ALWAYS burn our pizza, and it’s hard when the gf crust is SO thin :(
This place has some truly unique pizzas! My child with celiac enjoyed the gf pizza and they seemed to take proper precautions as we specified. No problems after either!

Are there the other night. Food tastes great, but I ended up having a severe reaction before we even left. I was sick the rest of the night and into the morning.
Great gluten free pizza crust. Made off site to avoid cross contamination.

Great Gluten Free Pizza. Very knowledgeable staff.

Their pizza is so AMAZING! Best gluten free pizza anywhere, and so many options!
Best GF pizza I've ever had! It doesn't even taste GF. The Iowan sounds weird, but is awesome. The meatlovers one (probably not the name) is also very good. No reactions whatsoever.
Yes
I haven't eaten there yet, but just got off the phone. When it is made the cook washes hands and changes gloves. Ingredients are taken from dedicated GF section, new bag/container, or isn't an issue. The GF crust is placed on a fresh and clean pan where the pizza is prepared and also cooked on, after which the pizza is cut on a clean surface. 3 pizzas can't be made gluten free: Mac 'n' Cheese, Crab Ragoon, and General Tso's ( the lady said it can't even though menu says it can),
I had the gf General Tso pizza and the gf cheesy bread. Both were fantastic and I had no ill effects after eating.

EXCELLENT choices, knowledgeable staff, delicious food! Highly recommend!

Friendly staff, uses 10 in GF custs but several unique options. we had bbq chicken ranch. Also had cheese sticks. Plan to return.
Wonderful gluten free pizza.
I love this Fongs better then the Ankeny one, but unfortunately convenience is everything. Lol. Super delicious. My favorite is Garlic and Honey!
delicious good, great selection of gf options, nearly all pizzas are offered with gf crust. wait staff was very knowledgeable and considerate. offered great suggestions on pizza and cider.

Very tasty. I felt very safe eating here. I enjoyed my pizza and had no reaction from it. Fong's is a fun place to enjoy many different types of pizza. They certainly were easy to talk to and provided helpful suggestions in ordering.
Yes
Very yummy! lots of different styles of pizza and the gluten free crust is really good.
Excellent staff with awareness of, at least, what a gluten intolerance is. Fantastic pizzas, and SO MANY to choose from. I love the cheeseburger pizza. I never feel sick after this place.
Love it! Fun pizzas!
Fine pizza. It was a little weird that they brought us fortune cookies (nonGF) when everyone at the table ordered GF crust for our pizzas, but didn't mind when we declined them. Interesting options for pizza.
