I felt safe going here because things were marked gluten free. I ordered a gluten free burrito and chips. I was thrilled to have a burrito option. However, I did have a reaction. Maybe it was the chips. The food was good but not 100% safe.

Tacos were just okay, so greasy that the tortillas fell apart....but the THE GLUTEN FREE CHURROS!!!!!

The churros are why I gave them a 5 star review. I ate there then sat in traffic for almost two hours to get home and didn't get sick, so I think they're pretty safe.

After coming here several times because the food is quite good, my wife who has celiac disease unfortunately got really sick the last time we went.

Usually the staff is pretty on top of it there, but the folks working that day didn't really seem to care and even seemed slightly annoyed about the accomodation. This was on 2/19/22 at around 3 pm.

This was a deal breaker for us unfortunately, which is sad because we've enjoyed going there every month or so for the last year.

I have celiac and wanted to be able to eat something at a work holiday party - for once. We catered Hugo's and got everthing GF including the crispy taco shells and taquitos. Everything was fresh and delish and they were easy to coordinate with! Really appreciate that this is an option that all can enjoy. ☺ next I have to get the churros!

A great little outdoor seatung or takeout-only Mexican restaurant. Churros are da bomb! OMG I'd drive 30 minutes just for them. Tacos and almost everything on the menu are GF. Also, everyone is well trained in GF. Incredible.

They told me the soft and hardshell tacos are the same corn tortillas and had no issues along with the churros.

The food was amazing!! They now have gluten free tortillas. My husband ate the gf/v rice pudding so fast I barely got a bite! I especially enjoyed the churros!! ☺

I had high hopes for this place but ended up very disappointed. They advertise gluten free options and state online that their staff is knowledgeable about gluten free and cross contamination. Unfortunately this was not the case. I came here specifically for gluten free options since i have celiac disease. When ordering i requested that my meal be prepared gluten free. The lady at the window stated it was already gluten free. I attempted to explain that i needed it prepared free of cross contamination but she snapped that again it was already gluten free and didn't need all this info. At this point i should have canceled my order and left but i stupidly decided to give them a chance. The food came out and was nothing special especially for the price. My non gluten free partner was also not impressed. I don't mind paying for SAFE GLUTEN FREE and TASTY food but this was not it. The worst part is i paid for my dumb decision to eat there later with an extremely painful stomachache that ruined the rest of my day. The food was obviously not gluten free or there are MAJOR cross contamination issues. If you are looking for SAFE gluten free options definitely avoid this place. You may also want to avoid if your not gluten free and looking for good Mexican food. All around disappointing. I am also urging the company to REMOVE the gluten free claims to prevent any one else from getting sick and going through the pain that i did.

What a great find! It's a literal shack--no reservations, but they did have some outdoor seating but makes for great take out. The entire place is gluten free--not hard to do with Mexican food but such a treat as no worries about cross contamination. Even the churros were gluten free, and quite good. We avoided the chorizos due to spicing concerns with a mustard allergy, but there was no mustard in the simpler meats etc. There is fish available and one dish seems to have shrimp as an option (the tamales, which were whole corn and the filling put on the outside, rather than having different filled ones available) but no other shellfish on the menu and we didn't have any issues avoiding/no cross contamination problems. A great treat for a quick stop--there are two locations, we went to the one in Glendale after touring Pasadena.

There can’t be too many reviews! They knew exactly what celiacs was, how theres dedicated fryers, and the receipt says celiac safe. The menu says what is definitely gluten free and what can be made gluten free. I can’t believe I finally got to eat gf churros !!!!

These tacos are amazing! My favorite are the carnitas and carne asada. They also have gluten free churros! Their taco family meal deal is so much food for the price so we get that a lot. My favorite salsa is the avocado salsa.

Fantastic! The menu is clearly marked what's (GF) and there's lots of choices and options! I had the taquitos and a fish and shrimp taco, all loaded up with big portions, super delicious and I didn't get sick! Whooooo! Really great friendly service and easy ordering process, they do Apple pay and Samsung too, they have their own parking lot too. My new favorite taco place!!

Our family of 4 ate dinner here. 2 Celiac family members and 1 is gluten sensitive. 3 had nachos with steak or chicken with different salsas. I had the beef tacos. Everything was delicious! I wish we had a Hugo’s back home! We followed our meal with the churros. Yum! Haven’t had one in nearly a decade.

Only GF foods go in the fryer! Their GF churros were very sweet, but also delicious — my non GF friends were impressed by them. I had the chicken taquitos and chips/guac as well, which we’re both good. I didn’t feel anxiety about cross contamination, and will definitely return. My friends got glutinous burritos and they served them on a separate tray from the GF foods. Update: tested the churros with my Nima and got a smiley face! Test was inconclusive for taquitos because I overfilled the capsule.

So wonderful! I had a carne asada salad bowl and the bowl was a fluffy yet crispy, delicious, and amazing. The carne was great, too. And of course I had a churro. It was soft and chewy and so good. No reactions at all.

I would give this place 50 stars if I could, because seriously, GF CHURROS!! The staff was very friendly, the menu is clearly marked, and you can order almost everything GF (other than burritos & quesadillas). I’ll be eating here often!

We were warned this one wasn’t as good as the universal location in NoHo. This location had a customer bathroom which I appreciated. My husband ordered and they made my food incorrectly so he had to go back and have them fix it which they did. The food was less flavorful than NoHo. This location had churros but the oil was old making them not taste as good. The food was still good just not as good in comparison to the other store. I loved the dining options Hugo’s offers.

Drove by saw gluten free tortillas sign. Pulled over, read menu and all signs. asked about the gf tortillas and placed an order, paid and waited. Got food, both my gf kid and i took bites. Kid said, don't think these are gf. I took it back asked if was gf was told no, i explained we needed gf and took bites of it thinking it was gf and we are allergic She said, " gluten free is extra." With no regard for the fact she just poisoned me and my kid. II explained i was under the understanding my food would be gf. The sign and me talking about the tortillas to her. At no point was i informed they had any other type of tortillas but gf. She said, "i didn't charge you for gf so you should have known." ii should not have to teach proper food safety to a company soliciting people with a detrimental food allergy. And deal with a crappy attitude, pay for over priced tacos, and risk my family's health. I wanted refund and she insisted i just have her remake it and of course the upcharge for gf. I gave in to hunger and the emerging need to be done so i could hurry to a remedy for the exposure just experienced. Finally got my food but lost my appetite and reluctant to eat food from someone with that deminor regarding something as important as food.
