Review of Jersey Mike's Subs

The first time I ate here, I got sick. Normally, I would never return but over the next two months my husband went there again and again. They were so diligent, my sandwich was made on a separate tray, in a separate area, how did it get contaminated??? I eventually realised the problem. THEY CLEANED THE MEAT SLICER, though no gluten items are ever cut on it. But they cleaned it with the cloth they use to wipe up the breadcrumbs. Argh, the anti-contamination measures don't work if they contaminate the equipment that wasn't previously contaminated immediately before slicing the meat. The second time, I asked them not to wipe the meat slicer (then my husband made them nervous by yelling at them about it) and although they lifted a gluten sandwich over mine several times as I dilligently watched for falling crumbs. A gluten free pretender had had ordered in the group before me and they were trying to complete the gluten portion of that order causing the young person behind the counter to disregard their protocols. I didn't get sick the second time but i also haven't been back. The sandwich is really good and if it weren't for drama loving gluten-free pretenders I think they'd be educated by the celiac community quickly. I may try again but this is definitely a place where you need to watch them closely and remind them that the sandwich is to be made in a separate area (which they have) and please don't gluten the meat slicer! I wouldn't say they know what they're doing here but they CAN produce a gluten-free sandwich.
