Jersey Mike’s is basically always a safe chain. I’d never been to this one before. When I mentioned an allergy to gluten, the teenage employee looked really nervous and said they’d try but of course they couldn’t guarantee anything. He wiped down the counter fairly well but left a few big crumbs. He went and washed his hands and changed his gloves, and my sandwich was made on its own tray and wrapper, so I guess wiping the counter wasn’t 100% necessary anyway. I don’t know if the second employee washed his hands, but at least I didn’t get sick. Other locations have made my sandwich in the back with new packages of stuff—not sure if that’s standard practice or not. I always get the #13 original Italian with extra juice because gluten free bread is always dry. The sandwich was great, and I added a bag of Lay’s.
