Jersey Mike's Subs

Jersey Mike’s generally has a good reputation for gluten free, so I thought I’d try it. We ordered online, and I got the Original Italian sub with the gluten free bun, and my husband got a gluten free Udi’s snickerdoodle for me. It’s kind of clunky trying to figure out which items are gluten free on their website. You have to select what you’re thinking of ordering and it’ll tell you if it has wheat, and it lists all the ingredients. So it doesn’t specifically filter for gluten, but at least it has all the ingredients for each item and it tells if it contains wheat. https://www.jerseymikes.com/menu/nutrition. The order was pretty screwed up when my husband picked it up, and he kept having to ask them to fix things (just with items they forgot to put in the bag). That made me nervous that maybe they weren’t careful with my sandwich. In the end, we came out missing my husband’s cookie but everything else was there. And my sandwich and cookie were good. The gluten free bread was pretty soft and good—a little dry, but you have to expect that with any gluten free bread. Overall, the food was good, and I’d order again—just maybe not during peak times. I’m sure they were understaffed, but I appreciate that the food was good and I didn’t get sick. I did have some heartburn after that I was afraid was the start of an attack, but it went away and I was fine.

$2.50 extra for gluten-free bread. Sandwiches are good. They were pretty good with precautions. Still, if I were super sensitive, I’d be worried about the amount of wheat flour crumbs floating around.

Service took a while. I ordered ahead of time even. I waited around 15 minutes once I arrived and was told it would take longer because of my allergy. Overall bread was hard and fell apart while eating it.

I stopped by on a Sunday afternoon to get a gf sub. They asked allergy or preference, wiped down the counter, put down paper, used a clean knife, changed gloves, and were cool about grabbing toppings from the back. They even moved the sandwich to fresh paper at the end of the line instead of wrapping in the paper that had sat on crumbs. Altogether I was impressed! At most locations I have to correct things as I go down the line, but the two staff who interacted with me here seemed very well trained on gf protocols.

They ask if you have an allergy or preference when it comes to the gluten free bread. After stating I have an allergy they cleaned the slicer, the counter, and all of the staff switched gloves. A new employee had accidentally used the mayo knife so they gave me new bread and then they use the squeeze bottle of mayo to prevent cross contamination. Everyone was very friendly, understanding, and aware of how to handle my allergy.

Amazing processes and protocols for safe handling of gluten free sandwiches to avoid cross contact. They explained their protocol to me without me prompting or asking any leading questions, showing me that know how to prevent cross contact.
