Having a gluten and dairy allergy can be very challenging, especially during the busy summer months in Maine. the owner of this restaurant Jimmy, was so lovely and so accommodating! he showed me a multiple page listing of every menu item and what the allergens were. I am able to safely enjoy baked scallops with dairy-free butter, and gluten-free bread crumbs. He even brought out the package to show me! they don’t have gluten-free rolls for lobster rolls but they will make you a sandwich with gluten-free bread that comes with coleslaw or potato salad. They will even make you their famous lobster pie both gluten-free and dairy free! I highly recommend this restaurant if you are on vacation or even if you’re a local and want to enjoy an allergy free, but delicious meal.

Excellent breakfast! I had lobster Benedict with gf toast substituted for the traditional English muffin and it was delicious! And the blueberry ice cream is a must try. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the gf options on the menu and was very helpful. And my non-gf husband loved his food too!

Fabulous breakfast while traveling up the Maine coast. The staff were very accommodating and suggested I order my eggs poached to avoid cross contamination. Gluten free toast was available and the staff advised me of other items that were gluten free. I ordered eggs, toast, corned beef hash, potatoes and sausage.

Fantastic!!!! Every person there was friendly and although they don’t have a dedicated menu they took care in explaining what the options were. The French toast was to die for and I was so excited after reading about the GF lobster pie that I got an order to go. They came out and explained how to cook it at home so it didn’t get dried out. So worth the wait!!!

No gluten free menu. Waitress was super nice and let us know they have GF bread. but when I ordered she came back to tell us about cross contamination on the grill. so they offered to bake my ham and cheese sandwich --great option, but the bread was very stale :(

Excellent food, and wonderful waitstaff. There isn’t a huge selection of gf foods, but plenty to choose from. I definitely recommend it and will be back.

The lobster roll was amazing. There gluten free bread was excellent. Two servers are Celiac and seem very knowledgeable.

Just an FYI - when I asked about French Fries I was told there is a risk of cross contamination. They do offer gluten free bread for sandwiches/toast. And they are aware and take precautions. Just have the server check with the kitchen. I had baked haddock & baked potato - very good.

One of my favorite gluten free breakfast places. They are a typical diner with that old diner feel. The staff is usually friendly and most work quickly, while there are some that lag behind. They have been knowledgable about celiac allergy and even bake gluten free toast with the understanding that you can't use the same toaster. Their GF bread is also delicious and you can buy a loaf to take with you if they have enough on hand at the time.

One of the servers has Celiacs, so the kitchen and staff are well educated and very careful about cross contamination!
Yes
The staff was super knowledgeable and I heard her talking gluten free in the kitchen. They have a bound book of all allergens in each food they offer. It was the first time I felt safe eating diner food in 30+ years of Celiac.
Yes
Best meal in Maine! Hot lister roll, baked beans with bacon, and coleslaw. Oh yes. And chocolate chip blueberry ice cream for dessert!
Yes
We had breakfast here. I was able to have poached eggs, corned beef hash, fruit, and gf toast. The food was great and the service was quick!
I had the club sandwich, with gf bread and french fries. It was good. The bread was baked in the oven.
Husband's favorite place for breakfast when in Maine, scrambled eggs, cornbeef hash, home fries and gluten free toast which is baked not toasted so no danger of cross contamination. Note: they are expanding gf menu, and now have gluten free lobster pie.
Just had a great turkey club sandwich on GF bread. Fresh tomatoes and lettuce. Have a shellfish allergy and our waitperson told the chefs. They made a point to cook it in a separate location. Love coming here when we are in Maine.
GF bread, sausage and homefries. Had a delicious sausage breakfast sandwich. Shared surfaces, so not safe for Celiac. Very friendly and fast service!

The infamous Maine Diner offers GF bread for sandwiches and burgers...only shortcoming is lack of GF fried seafood, but there were plenty of options. All sides to meals are GF....chips, potato salad, coleslaw
We went for dinner around 7pm and the place was packed. We were able to be seated within minutes and were immediately given menus and drinks. I had seen online that they had GF bread so I asked the waitress about having the lobster melt of GF bread, she was so pleasant and said ABSOLUTELY! She pointed out the GF side options, which included potato salad, chips, Cole slaw and beans. Food was ready very quickly, and the lobster melt was delicious! Lots of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner...reasonably priced and great service.
Gone down hill recently. Wait staff not helpful for allergies. Food sucked even for non-gluten-free customers.
Yes
Delicious! While the gluten free options are not noted, you can pretty much figure out what you can eat. The waitress then was able to confirm if it was okay. I ordered the lobster melt (during breakfast) on gluten free bread that was toasted in the oven (waitress made a note on the cook slip). I love diners and miss going to them, so it was a nice treat.

The Maine Diner is one of the food experiences I miss the most since being diagnosed with Celiac. There aren't a lot of gluten free choices, but the waitress was very attentive to my needs and gave me a list of all of their dishes and possible allergens. I settled on bacon, eggs, and toast. They have very good gluten free bread. No separate toaster, but they will toast it in the oven. The waitress wrote and underlined "in the oven" on the check and also verbally told the kitchen that it had to go in the oven. I would have loved pie, pancakes, corn muffins, and french toast, but very good bacon, eggs, and toast had to do. It's just not the same Maine Diner experience when you have Celiac. Even though I didn't get sick, I would say it isn't Celiac friendly due to the lack of a specific gluten free menu and the busyness of the restaurant.
No
Great food of you can eat gluten. No gf menu and waitress was very little help. its crowded and bustling already, ordering should be much simpler. Very little options.
No
They do not have a gluten free menu, only gluten free bread with gluten free options. Not very patient with helping me choose options. I only had eggs, ham and gf toast...it was just ok. If I had to do it again, I would have chosen a more gluten friendly restaurant.
Yes
Agree with the reviewer who stated they are not GF. We ordered French toast with GF bread, and they use the same egg wash as their regular French toast and wouldn't make a new one. Bet the font have a separate toaster either. We avoid going here. Too bad because the menu is otherwise good, I just don't trust the staff to meet the needs of celiacs.
Only had a sandwich but the GF bread was spectacular! I suspect it was homemade.
Fantastic chili and all sandwiches can be made on gf bread! Best Indian pudding I've had!
The food is good. but they ate not gluten free as advertised.
Went for breakfast. To was wonderful to have gf toast.
