Good Gluten free crab cakes. A bit over priced and very slow but friendly. We enjoyed the Cheese and Wine Bistro next door better but this is gluten free friendly.
The best gluten-free pancakes in the South. Period. Top 5 in the country. People, don't sleep on this French Quarter gem.
We shared gluten free crab cakes! And blueberry pancakes! Everything was delicious! The staff was fun and friendly chatting with us between serving and taking orders! Knowledgable about food cross contamination. Fun area the French Market with shopping, food together and good music as you walk along. Original pralines are gluten free! Enjoy!!
My family stopped at Meals From the Heart Cafe this Sunday for the first time. We unknowingly showed up right at closing, but when the lovely Miss Revia heard that I was gluten free, she said, "I don't want you eating anywhere else. Let us take care of you!" The wonderful staff started the kitchen back up, and made a gorgeous meal not just for me, but for my whole family too! We were absolutely blown away by the incredible kindness of the entire staff. And the food was delicious!!! I can't recommend these guys enough. If you want awesome food prepared by fantastic people, this is the place to go! These guys made our day, and we can't wait to go back!
Crab cakes?! My heart was so happy when we just decided to walk through the market and this grabbed my eye!! I got the crab cake with a poached egg great! Definitely worth stopping at!!
simply lovely. the staff was great and the crab cake po boy brought a tear to my eye.
This gem of a place was worth the walk in the sweltering heat! Traveling with our 12 year old Celiac, we jumped at the promise of GF pancakes. This place did not disappoint. The food was fantastic and freshly made. The owners were SO knowledgeable and very friendly, we loved chatting with them! I can't recommend this place enough. Just FYI- it's in a farmers market area so there is no indoor seating.
Wonderful gluten free options!!! The only place I've been able to get a crab cake po boy, and it was delicious!!! The folks who work there are great, too. A fun place to get breakfast on the weekends.
Had a lot of great gluten free options, but was not executed well. My daughter with Celiacs was definitely "glutened" and suffered after eating here. I think the owners have a great thing going, but need to train their staff better.
Excellent service, staff is knowledgable about celiac disease and what does and does not contain gluten. Located inside the French Marketplace. I had the GF Vegan Blueberry pancakes for breakfast, then after toodling the marketplace and some other shops I went back and had the GF crab cake Po'boy for lunch. Both were great!!
Best meal I had in New Orleans! I had a true po boy with tons of flavor, paired with mixed veggies and potatoes. The owner is so nice and there were so many GF options. I went there twice in a 24 hour period. Will definitely go back!
Really enjoyed this lovely little cafe. It has been my breakfast savior. The gluten free vegan blueberry pancakes are awesome.
I have only been gf for a couple of years, so I've eaten creole and Cajun food with lots of gluten in the past. The gf crab cakes here are delicious....and as good or better than anything I've ever had containing gluten. Gumbo and grits and garlic toast are also delicious. And staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Will come back every chance I get!
Really good gluten free options... Crab cakes were great and enjoyed the oranges as appetizer.... Love it!
Awesome gluten free crab cakes and they even deliver, no extra charge! Totally worth it
Super friendly, big portions, tastes great and they deliver! I had GF Vegan pancakes and the crab cakes!
Celiac and vegan friendly. My blueberry pancakes were awesome!! My husband couldn't tell they were GF!!!
crab cake poorboy was really good and so were the crab cake tacos! its a little expensive though order for two cost about 40 bucks.
The GF crab cakes were AWESOME! We will definitely return!
Love this place and staff is very friendly and knowledgable. I have been here several times and am never disappointed. However I just went there for lunch waited 10 minutes and wasn't even acknowledged and they weren't busy. Probably won't be back
Got the crab cake poboy. Very delicious! And it was a lot of food for me. Couldn't eat it all. Will go back.
Best gf food in New Orleans!
I highly recommend eating here! The food was fresh and delicious, and unquestionably gluten free! The owner was very knowledgable of the gluten free requirements. He was friendly and explained that the establishment started out as a heart healthy option, but found an easy adaptation to gluten free for many of their items after their first year. The food is delicious and oh so fresh! We really enjoyed the crab cake tacos and tilapia tacos. My husband ordered gumbo, too, but after only one of the crab cake tacos, I was satisfied. My daughter loves the gf brownie. Best news yet? They will ship the crab cakes and gumbo to YOU! AND THEY HAVE A GF KING CAKE! I didn't think I'd ever taste one again.
Some of the best gluten free pancakes I've had! Even the non gf bf loved them. His crab cakes were awesome and gf. Gf bread available too. The guy taking orders asked if we were celiac or gf too. Not a common thing. I highly recommend!
Great gluten free food.
They have the best gluten free pancakes I've ever had. Def eating there again to try the crab cakes, they looked and smelled amazing so I'll have to go again.
what a great place. enjoyed the gf pancakes! crab cakes also delicious. many vegan and/or gf options. service was phenomenal as well!
Outstanding gluten-free crab cake! Such nice people, too. Complimentary fresh fruit while waiting. Highly, highly recommended.
You have to get the crab cake passion (I ordered an extra crab cake because they where so good). My husband enjoyed the food too. James showed us what southern hospitality is all about!
So happy to find this place! Ordered the crab cake platter since they are so hard to find GF and it was terrific. The conversation with Roland was priceless. I wish I was in town a bit longer so i could try the other GF offerings.
Went here TWICE the day before I left town. The pancakes and the crab cake Pinot were great. It was the first crab cake in 6 years, and oh my god it was divine. Not only that - the staff is friendly and personable, too. Highly recommend!
Excellent service and meal was delicious. Understood the celiac disease and verified that everything was gluten free. A must visit!
Awesome place to eat. No fuss from the staff at all about me being a celiac. Bread and pancakes are out of this world. Love the fact I didn't have to worry about being sick and enjoying flavorful food.
I truly enjoyed my crabcake sliders with the veggies and potatoes. Thumbs up.
Gluten free crab cake was excellent! Had a delightful conversation with one of the proprietors Mr. Lazard. Also serve GF pancakes and po'boys! Mr. Lazard's sister has gotten into healthy eating and there is no white flour used in anything they make! Also have Vegan options. They do have regular bread available, but seem to be totally aware of cross contamination.
Right in the French Market. Adorable little place with great GF options. We were really challenged to find gluten free choices in the Big Easy - not only did they have the most, but it was the best food we had the whole trip! We went back several times.
Gluten free pancakes are delicious! Get them with the blueberries and the maple syrup (they only have the real kind).
Very good and friendly service. Not fancy at all, but our family sat at a table in the market and enjoyed people watching. My daughter and I enjoyed the GF crab cake and poached egg. My son said the GF pancakes were the best he has ever eaten, GF or non-gf.
Absolutely fantastic! Owner is very knowledgable. I was stoked to have a crab cake sandwich. We went back several times in the couple days there
Great experience friendly staff, large gluten free menu great food, very healthy
Excellent pancakes and crab cakes !My son Charlie loved the owner! Only 5-6 seats though so go early!
Crab cakes are very tasty, but my highly sensitive Celiac daughter and I had reaction both times we ate there. Owners are very friendly.
Came here with my brother (also celiac). We were both very excited after all the amazing reviews and this was going to be his first po-boy. Got the crab cake po-boys and paid through the nose for them. We were both sick within the hour, despite being very specific about our needs and the fact that we were there because they were so well known as gf friendly. I'm glad others had good experiences, but you couldn't pay me to go back. So sick!!
Great place for Celiacs and other dietary needs This a fantastic place for safe, delicious and low fat gluten free food. Many many thanks to Roland Dusette ( who helps his sister run this place). Elena from Toronto
Saw this place on a blog and had to go for the crab cake po'boy. Delicious! Plenty of gluten-free options and the service was incredibly friendly. Small place though. Recommend sitting at the tables rather than at the main counter. Otherwise you'll have people squeezing through on either side to order/pay.
I didn't give it 5 stars because it's a $1 extra for anything gluten free. I ordered the crab cake (single) & 1 bottle of water my total was $12.44. I'm a visitor here and I'm really tired of the gluten free up charge
The service was very slow, and my Celiac husband got sick from the crab cake even though we specified gluten free.
Absolutely the best! I ate here several times on a business trip with no problems. The food is delicious and they are very gluten aware. Got to try most items on the menu and everything was so good. Made to order, gotta wait a few, but its so worth it. In the French market, to die for!!
Crab cakes so amazing I shed a tear. Super friendly, GF knowledgable, and so, so yummy. What a surprise from a lunch counter in the market!!!
Fantastic menu options. Friendly and celiac aware! Blueberry pancakes were delicious. A lot of healthy options.
Wonderful food and entertaining conversation. Very gluten aware.
Great food, great service and very knowledgable staff!!! It is located in the market area-was tough to find on the gps if you didn't know.
Located in the French market. Food is good, freshly made. I was excited to be able to try a gluten free po-boy. Down fall was that it was on gluten free sandwich bread instead of a roll. All in all the food was good, staff is friendly.
Very knowledgeable about gluten. Very careful. Nice staff who cares about your health. Ate there twice and never got sick. The only gluten free gumbo I found in New Orleans. It was great. The chicken Po-boy was good, not great. But worth eating for you're having trouble finding safe options.
The owners knows about cross-contamination and took good care of me. Got the pancakes for breakfast. Was so good. Extensive choice for breakfast lunch and dinner. Inexpensive. If you like eating in a market, go there !
I have celiac disease, so eating out when we travel is a challenge. I found this restaurant on my app and was well worth the mile walk from our hotel!! The blueberry pancakes, crab cake with poached egg, and the tilapia tacos were amazing!! The service was excellent as well!! I highly recommend this restaurant when visiting New Orleans if you have a gluten allergy or just want to eat healthy!! I wish I could take them back to NC!! ;-)
We had a fantastic & safe GF experience at Meals From The Heart while visiting The French Market. From GF pancakes, GF omelette, GF grits, GF gumbo, to GF crab-cake poboys with remoulade, our tastebuds were delighted and our tummies full. I can't wait to come back here my next visit. Fair warning: they only accept cash & there's limited seating.
I would highly recommend this delicious cafe that offers wholesome and healthy dishes, in a warm and friendly atmosphere. I had the gluten free blueberry pancakes. They were delicious and among the best I've had! The owner is a warm lovely person that cares about serving good food. Side note: The cafe is located in the French market, it is not a stand alone restaurant.
The ingredients were fresh, but the food was pretty bland. We had the tilapia po boy and the okra gumbo. It also came with veggies and potatoes that were cooked well but again the season was lacking. The upside is that it is a very healthy meal.
Great gluten free pancakes and crab cakes! It was a little slow and they made the pancakes wrong the first time around, but the owner came and apologized and then comped the pancakes for us. This is an awesome gluten free option in the French Market!
We had a challenging time finding safe g-free restaurants in NOLA for my celiac daughter. We found this restaurant and loved that she could have traditional New Orleans foods...like gumbo, po'boys, crab cakes, etc. It's in a cool open market with lots of options for non g-free folks too. It's worth the walk!
I found nola to be very tough to find gluten free food or even servers who were understanding of gluten free. Meals from the heart was a blessing from heaven!! Everyone working there was friendly and helpful. There was a wait for my food but I think it's worth it to get something you feel safe eating and it was delish. Blueberry gf pancakes are the best!!!
Excellent cafe! Friendly, congenial staff! Delicious gluten free and vegan options!!
amazing gluten free crab cakes! you have to try the poboy its worth the money and the calories. great blueberry pancakes too
Yummy blueberry pancakes and cheddar grits. They were super sweet and very concerned with how sensitive my celiac disease is. I love the food, the people and location. Definitely visit this location for a safe, economical gf meal!
Thought it would be so hard to find a great GF place to eat but this place was to die for!! The staff was so great and the food was amazing! One day we went two times! The pancakes were delicious and the turkey burger was great as well! The family who works here are so welcoming as well. If I'm in NOLA again I will be back!
Healthy AND scrumptious in The Big Easy?! You bet!! This place is hands down one of the best places to eat even for non-gluten intolerant friends. They also have vegetarian and vegan options which for me (a big meat eater) were extraordinary! The raw beet and avocado salad was very filling. The gluten free pancakes were a wonderful treat since I've never found a restaurant that makes them. And the crab cakes made with fresh crab were to die for! They were by far the best I and my friends had ever had. If you are gluten intolerant this place is a must on your list of places to eat in Nola. Your non-GF friends won't mind eating here either!
Excellent gluten free food! Very friendly and polite staff. I recommend this outdoor cafe to anyone with special &/or healthy food needs. We are going back again!
Amazing family run business- provides healthy alternatives to traditional new Orleans fare. Gluten free crab cake po-boys, best gluten free blueberry pancakes, vegan friendly, vegetarian friendly and all around a heart healthy DELICIOUS spread.
