Merchantman Fresh Seafood & Oyster Bar

They do have a gluten free menu. I had chosen this restaurant after seeing dish I wanted on their online Gluten Free menu but it was not available on thier sit down menu even though it could be ordered gluten free online, I was disappointed. The waitress was not overly knowledgeable and had to check with the kitchen to answer many of the questions I had. She did know they did not have a dedicated fryer but did not know if they had a separate gluten free prep area or if any special handling for gluten was made. After ordering from the gluten free menu indicating I was celiac and asking several questions on food preparation I did still manage to get glutened. The hour drive back home was a little more then unpleasant. The food was ok but nothing memorable, the bun used for my smoked salmon sandwich was o'doughs (a bit heavy for the meal, knikinkiik or Promise would have been a better choice). The restaurant was not what I would call clean, window blinds next to table had thick layer of dirt, dead bugs were merged with window and there was old food on the windowsill and floor, will not be returning.

Separate GF menu. I had delicious scallops with such great carmelization, and a very good burger on an excellent seeded bun! My non-GF husband liked the fish part of his tacos but the rest of the filling wasn’t as much to his liking. But I would definitely go back!

Not a lot of variety but enough that it made it safe for celiacs. Excellent seafood chowder that was safe and delicious.

Went during burger love, food was not great but staff were unsure of procedures and very few options. Asked if the chips with the spinach dip were GF or fried on site and said if they weren’t we didn’t want them. They brought them over but hadn’t ever answered the question so I asked again and they were unsafe :( husband ate them but we should have sent them back. Not a great experience
