January 14, 2013The first time I ordered gluten free pasta here it was way too soft and mushy. The second time I ordered the same thing and it was barely even cooked. The staff wasn't very accommodating or knowledgable. Wouldn't recommend this place for those who are gluten free.

The GF menu was very limited and the food was not very good, sauce was bland and pasta was cold and under cooked. I have no plans to go back. If you have a Macaroni Grill, they are leaps and bounds better than Olive Garden.

The salad and sauce were good. The noodles were hard and dried out. The waitress told me that the gluten free foods were prepared elsewhere and just heated and served. I won't go there again.

I love the Olive Garden for the gluten free menu , they have 5 meals to choose from , I didn't like the pasta meals, but the steak and chicken and sea food are all so yummy, and as always their salads are great, with out the crouton's. the only thing I wish they had, would be a lunch portion on the sea food, and the steak meals, as they are very pricey , when your there just for lunch, I won't be able to go there for lunch as much as I'd like to. I am hoping this will change

I love the fact that they have a special menu for there gluten free meals, they have several meals that are gluten free to choose from, and so far everything I have tried is wonderful !!!!!!!!!!!!! Ate here twice- first time penne GF pasta was decent, not bad, not great but ok. Second time I ate here the penne GF pasta was horrible. Hard and no flavor....I wouldn't come back because I can find a better tasting pasta for less than Olive Garden prices.

I ordered my pasta entree and when it came out of the kitchen, it looked like regular gluten pasta. I asked the server to check and, sure enough, they had given me the wrong food. I'm glad I asked! The server was very apologetic and got me the correct food immediately. Just wish they had been a bit more diligent in the first place. Overall very friendly and nice atmosphere but the mistake made me nervous and the gf pasta was ok.

They do have a GF menu. But it's VERY LIMITED. You can have the salad minus the crutons. It is an amazing salad. But salad alone? There are 2 pasta dishes with red sauce for like $13. Boring and kind of expensive of something I could do better at home. There was also a chicken or pork dish... I forget which one. It was like $15. Boring menu... It was truly the first restaurant that I knew I had celiac and I was being treated differently. I actually felt left out and slightly sad... I won't go back.

Very small gluten-free menu, but everything looked good. My husband ordered the regular mixed meat dish (gf version available) and I ordered gf pasta (they only have penne with tomato sauce, optional add of shrimp or chicken). My husband's food was awesome (but expensive). My food.... mushy and falling apart. I hate sending stuff back, but my husband was basically like "we're not paying for that inedible meal" haha. The waitress was really nice about it and asked if I wanted it remade or something different, but I opted for canceling it. I wasn't that hungry anyway. The manager came out to apologize and explained that they microwave their noodles in water to avoid contamination. They took my food off the bill and we had a gift card so my husband's food didn't cost anything. I got some salad in my system beforehand so I wasn't too disappointed. The wait staff was awesome about it all. Unfortunately, my husband and I won't be returning simply because it's expensive to eat the things on the gluten-free menu that actually taste good and we can easily grill our own meat and vegetables at home.

As long as you clearly define Gluten Free, they meet the needs. Not the best GF pasta, rather run of the mill. Knowledge of GF is based on the individual waiter/waitress. I had to remind ours that the salad cannot contain croutons. Try the salmon as an alternate to GF pasta.

The food took so long to arrive at the table, that it was hard to send it all back to avoid cross contamination. The zucchini were delicious.

I think on the main menu they had pasta with red sauce (surprise surprise,) pasta with chicken, salmon, and something else. The manager and server bent over backwards to accommodate us, even bringing us our own salad bowl separate from my husband's. The manager brought me the ingredient list from their Ranch dressing so I could okay it for my kid too. The salmon was really good. The girls' penne with red sauce was "meh." And the grilled chicken was boring. Would I choose to eat here as a night out? No. But a family get-together or night out with friends, it'll do.

Ate at Olive Garden tonight to try out the gluten free pasta and was sorely disappointed! it came out looking okay but it was mush! If you are going to serve a specialty item in your restaurant you should know how to prepare it. What upset me further was that no one came out to ask me why I sent it back and then I had to wait an additional 15 minutes while my husband finished his meal to receive the other entree. I don't recommend this to anyone seeking a good gluten free experience. Save your money and just get some past at fresh market or whole foods :-/

I've confirmed with other online reviews that the GF version is indeed just frozen TV dinner type pasta, not worth the price. For a restaurant to serve such a thing is a shame.

I wasn't impressed. I had GF pasta with marinara sauce - one of the few things I could eat there. The pasta was overcooked and had broken apart into a million little pieces. For me, that mediocre meal was absolutely not worth sitting in front of a basket of delicious bread sticks that I couldn't eat. I can make MUCH better pasta at home. But if you get stuck having to go there for whatever reason (which was our case), it's nice to know there's something safe available for you to eat. If Olive Garden came up with a good GF version of their bread sticks, they'd have GF folks flocking to their restaurants...and I'd be first in line.

I was very impressed. I don't have Celiac, but I have a gluten sensitivity. I get embarrassed when I ask for gluten free stuff and people make a big deal about it. I try and modify things myself from the menu to get what I need, and today at Olive Garden after asking for my chicken to not be breaded and no croutons in my salad my server caught on pretty quick. She accommodated me perfectly, and didn't make it a huge deal. They literally made me a dish from scratch after all was said and done. I got their new smoked mozzarella chicken dish with chicken breast instead of breaded chicken fingers and gluten free pasta (the sauce was not gluten free so beware). I have tried other gluten free pastas and decided to just call off the pasta chase after many failed attempts, but I honestly couldn't tell the difference with olive gardens gf pasta! It tasted like it had slightly been overcooked, but considering that it was gf, I didn't even think twice! I was thrilled at how good it tasted! I will definitely order it again and try other sauces with the pasta!

The chicken and steak that were on our Mixed Grill (GF menu) were delicious. The vegetable sides were uninspired. Salads were delivered without croutons. The manager came to our table to make sure we were comfortable ordering from the GF menu and explained that our orders would be tagged as GF when they were submitted to the kitchen. He also came back to check with us once we received our food. Overall-a very good experience from a restaurant that we would not have chosen without this app.

While the grill is very tasty and filling, the pastas are pretty lacking, bland, and not filling. However, the grill grows old real fast. THIS location used to be really bad: the chef told me to my face that anyone who ordered gf, dairy free, peppers free (like I do), or any other alterations was bull$h!t and he would not make changes for them. He might say they were whatever-free, but they weren't. He said he thought it was all a load of crap and that all those people were faking it. Well, that didn't last long. I complained to the manager about it, and the chef was fired. Now, it's a great place to eat. The parking's a little hard to navigate, but the service is wonderful. The staff are mostly knowledgeable, and helpful. However, the food is just so blah.

With our second visit to Olive Garden (a couple of months later) we had a new server. Again, this server was friendly and happy to cater to our gluten-free/dairy-free needs. Knowledge - The first server seemed to have a great deal of knowledge about food sensitivities and was able to tell us about the processes that the restaurant has in place to keep the food safe. We did have questions about marinades and salad dressing and when he wasn’t positive about the ingredients he checked with the cooks. The second server that we had actually asked us what Celiac Disease was (we were, of course, happy to educate him). He also suggested a sauce to me to go with the gluten-free pasta dish that I had ordered, and then came back a few minutes later to let me know that the sauce he had recommended wasn’t actually gluten-free. When I asked what steps the chefs/cooks take to ensure that gluten doesn’t end up in our meals, the server was quite vague and assured us that they are very careful to make sure that our meals don’t contain gluten, however he wasn’t able to tell us how the chefs/cooks would be keeping our meals gluten-free. Safety of food - With our initial visit, we felt comfortable eating here and the food did appear to be gluten-free. We spoke with the manger after enjoying our meal and she further discussed the ways in which the restaurant works to ensure the safety of the food. On the second visit, I felt a little less comfortable about the safety of the food but was glad that the server double checked the ingredients of the sauce that he recommended to me prior to serving it. I do wonder how many other gluten-free customers he has offered that sauce to in the past as I believe only checked on it after we told him just how serious a gluten sensitivity/celiac disease actually is. Taste and cost/serving size - We were very happy with both the price and the amount of food that we were given. My wife even had to ask for a “to go” box which never happens with her! The second visit was a different story. My wife ordered a chicken breast with a side of veggies and received a very meager portion of each (see picture above). In addition, my serving of pasta and chicken was also quite small, and while we did get our money’s worth with the amount of salad that we both ate, we were both ready to eat again by the time we got home a little while later. Overall experience - The overall experience was definitely better with our first visit than with our second. The service was good with each visit and it does appear that the restaurant has a system in place to ensure meals are gluten-free. However, I wasn’t impressed by the education/knowledge that our second server seemed to have when it comes to gluten and I feel a more thorough staff training/education program would be beneficial. In addition, the number of choices on the g-free menu was quite limited; it would be great to have a few more options available. It was really great to see a gluten-free menu, however it didn’t offer any appetizers or soups or even display prices for that matter. Based on the inconsistency of server education, lack of gluten-free menu prices, and the fact that gluten-free pasta is made-to-order, just like the regular pasta, I still see a large concern for error in meal preparation. I give Olive Garden 3 out of 5 stars.

While Olive Garden did have a GF menu, the options were very limited, and not very interesting. I had the mixed grill, which is a combination of steak, chicken, and vegetables. The chicken was dry as dust and the vegetabels tasted completely unseasoned (in addition to being over-cooked for my liking).

I ordered the pasta pomodoro with chicken so I could judge for myself. Here is how they could improve it: boil it for two more minutes than you did, and stir it As You Boil. Our waiter was Fantastic, not sure if he still has his job after we were there, he tried his best to serve us a gluten and dairy free experience and went so far as to question the manager (who was sitting within ear shot of us) several questions. The manager's attitude was terrible. She acted more concerned about weather or not they would be sued for serving something, than she was about meeting the needs of a client. The meal was OK, bland as usual when there is nothing to flavor it, and I did ask why the OLIVE GARDEN only puts a couple of olives in the salad. The Order of business is only 1 Black Olive per customer at the table, no more. (that is a corporate rule, as our gracious waiter told us.) Would I dine at this Olive Garden again, the answer is NO, the managers attitude is enough to keep me away, regardless of any changes they might make to bring more gluten and dairy free items to the table.

Olive Garden has perhaps the most limited gluten-free menu of any restaurant offering gluten-free food . . . but that's the least of the problems. The staff at this location have not been trained to know what is gluten-free. We stated three times that we were ordering from the gluten-free menu -- we even had to point out to the bartender (takeout order) where the gluten-free version was on his screen -- and we made the cardinal mistake of not checking the food before we left. Instead of the gluten-free child's chicken dinner, we got the regular child's chicken dinner with regular spaghetti served alongside the chicken. I'd ordered that, because what I really wanted was a Chicken Caesar Salad, which is not available despite the fact that the menu did include a gluten-free Caesar Salad and a gluten-free chicken breast (only for kids) dinner, which came with salad. The menu has since been changed, so I can't do that anymore. The gluten-free pasta is not particularly good. I agree with the previous post about the salmon -- did that once, never again. I do not consider this a true gluten-free option, due to the indifference of the staff and the limitations of the menu.

Gluten free menu had to be dug up from the host stand and they weren't sure they had one. And then the salad I ordered was pitiful. Basically iceberg lettuce with parmesan cheese. And it was served when my husband's salad was and I had nothing else to eat while he had dinner. Needless to say I was starving the rest of our date night, but at least I didn't get sick (and I am very sensitive to cc). Not worth the money spent, but nice to know it was an option if family wants to go there. I will just also pack my own food to eat in addition.

GF pasta here was pretty awful--strange texture and broke into bits. Felt like a heavy gut bomb in my stomach. I've always enjoyed going to Olive Garden occasionally, but it now looks like sadly, I won't be able to eat here any more. The menu choices for GF are very limited, and let's face it, if you can't have pasta here, why go? Also want to mention, GF pasta costs extra and is never included in the "never-ending pasta bowl" promotions they run. Overall, extremely disappointing and I left hungry. Skip it if need GF and go to Old Spaghetti Factory a couple blocks away--they put this place to shame and are less expensive to boot!

Menu is not very vast. The pasta is cooked in the microwave and is extremely hard and not tasty. Servers are not friendly and continue to discuss my being gluten free broadcasting it to everyone around. At one point after everything that came to the table for the other guests saying oh that's not gluten free. Gee you think I don't know that. Ended up in the bathroom crying. Will not be going back.

Took my daughter here last weekend once I found out they had a gluten free menu and the service was awesome! I informed them soon as we got there that my daughter need a gluten free menu & they made sure of salad had croutons on they side. The gluten-free menu is rather short and to the point but she was able to find something she wanted so I was happy. Overall, I was very pleased! The service at this location is really great and we will be dining here again.

The waitstaff was very sweet, which gets them two stars. The GF selection was basically penne with pomodoro sauce or marinara sauce or salmon or steak. very slim pickin's. The penne was so overcooked that it resembled a soggy polenta with red sauce more than any sort of pasta. It had no shape at all. Really have to advise against eating here.

Yay, glad they have some GF options. But should an Italian restaurant really serve *microwaved* GF pasta?! That just grosses me out. :-( But yay for at least some GF options, if you're stuck having to eat here. I'm still giving only 1 star (for their lack of GF wonderfulness) b/c it's just depressing to eat here. I went with a large group who had pre-ordered appetizers. None of them were safe for me, and the servers were WAY too busy to even give me the time of day (plus the kitchen was taking FOREVER - so even if I would've made a big deal of it, my friends would've been done by the time I'd gotten my food).

We ordered three plates of GF pasta with marinara sauce. The pasta was all undercooked and I found a piece of plastic and a random spaghetti (not GF) in my food. I complained to the general manager and he offered to remake everything. He said the pasta comes in a plastic bag (that's where the piece of plastic probably came from) and they microwave it. He had no idea how the stray noodle could have gotten in there. When the order was remade the pasta was overcooked. This is my 2nd time trying an Olive Garden. I won't be back.

The menu at olive garden offered GF options but very few, and I was disappointed to spend so much for a plate of pasta with very little sauce and the chicken I ordered on the side was burned. My meal looked nothing like the picture on the website of the dish and I was very unsatisfied with the taste! The waitress was friendly and the service good but the GF meal I had was not worth the steep prices. If your looking for a tasty pasta dinner be ready for dry, no cheese and no bread of any type to go with it. Such is life for us celiacs but olive garden could and should step it up a few notches!!!

Before I was GF I loved Olive Garden - now I hate it. There are no options and they have no clue how to cook GF pasta. The first time I went I got the pasta and they tried to serve it al dente but it was just chewy and gluey. Sauce tasted like they just opened a can of Hunt's, no seasoning or flavor. Gave them a second shot and had the Mixed Grill all chicken. It wasn't bad, but I'd rather have something better than "not bad".

Perhaps things have improved in recent months, but I've been too afraid to go back. My first venture to try their gluten free menu started in an argument with the waitress over parmesan cheese. She kept trying to tell me cheese had gluten in it and I didn't know what I was talking about. When I told her unless it was rolled in flour, it was fine. Gluten is wheat, not dairy, she decided to ask her chef. The CHEF told her that I was wrong, and there is gluten in cheese. While I could tell I was given gluten free noodles, it's no surprise I left the restaurant glutened. Eat Olive Garden at your own risk.

I was pleased with the fact that they had a GG menu since I have just been ordered on the GF diet 4wks ago by my doctors. This was my first GF Resturuant I went to and ordered the Salmon. The Salmon was extremely dry and plain. There was no dressing to go on the salad (and Olive Garden dressing MAKES the salad) and no GF breadsticks. I was hoping for at list two dessert GF options but there are none at all. At list Applebee's offers ONE GF dessert. You'd think Olive Garden would since there's are so popular.

Before I went GF, Olive Garden was a chain I frequented. I'd never once had a bad experience - Great service always accompanied the mediocre Italian food they serve. Regardless, I was pretty excited when I heard about the GF menu they put out, & decided to check it out for lunch. Sadly, I was not impressed at all. To start, the GF menu Olive Garden offers is limited. VERY limited. I decided on the GF penne rigate pomodoro with grilled shrimp & a garden fresh salad (sans croutons, of course). The salad was, as I expected, very fresh & delicious. The pasta was a different story. I chose the pomodoro over marinara (the ONLY other GF sauce option) just for the heck of trying something different. I wasn't a fan, especially paired with the GF penne rigate that's offered. Overcooked and flavorless, not to mention topped with that awful sauce and several equally as overcooked and flavorless shrimp, the pasta stands out in my mind as some of the worst I've ever had. GF Menu Options: 1.5 Stars (limited options) Execution of GF Menu Item: 2 Stars (salad was good, but entree was much less than satisfactory) Service: 5 Stars

It's hit or miss here. One time had a very knowledgeable waiter and a nice gf meal. The next time, we had to send the salad back twice for croutons, they almost served hubby regular pasta, and when the gf pasta came out, it wasn't thoroughly cooked. It is nice that they try to offer gf, but I'm not sure they have the hang of it yet.

Avoid here-they charge a lot extra for gluten free, the gf food was made poorly, plus i had a gluten reaction (i think it was in my Ceasar salad).

I went there last night and had the gluten free penne rigate pomodoro with grilled chicken. The waitress had to look at the menu to write gluten free so I am sure she was not aware of what that meant. She did however bring the croutons on a separate plate for those at the table who could eat it. There was a large portion of pasta on the dinner plate with a few strips of chicken. It tasted good, but nothing better than I could have cooked at home. I ate about half of the meal and brought the rest home. On my way home I got terrible stomach cramps and flew down the highway to get home. I thought perhaps it may have been that I ate too much so kept the leftovers. I brought half of the leftovers (see...a lot of pasta) for lunch today and when I started to eat it after heating it up I found a spagetti noodle in it. Since they do not have GF spagetti - just the penne - I know it was not gluten free. My Mom says I should write them a letter but I don't want them to just offer a gift card to try them again as it is definitely NOT worth feeling that lousy again (yes...the leftovers have made me sick too). BE CAREFULL EATING HERE IF YOU HAVE CELIAC!

Very limited menu. Quality and taste is ok. My son was very happy with the salad dressing. Only one pasta choice is offered, I think it's a corn pasta. The best thing on the GF menu is the salmon. My mom gets it even tho she isn't GF.

You would think that a place that pushes pasta as a reason to go there, and even offers a GF pasta, would be more accommodating. We went here earlier this year; service was fairly quick, the staff was friendly, the food experience sucked. Examples: When the large bowl of salad was brought over the waitress also brought over a separate bowl of crutons for my wife; perfect. Digging in the large salad bowl though we found.....a cruton. I ordered with my main selection a side order of the GF pasta. While we we eating our meal, and the waitress was presumably working tallying up the bill, she comes to the table and apologeticly tells us that she made an error with our order; for future refrencen, it seems that OG does not offer the GF pasta as a side dish, if you want GF pasta you have to order the full size serving which costs $10. Thanks but no thanks. They didnt charge us for a full serving, but we havent been back since; the food wasnt that great, I felt it was over priced as well, and I would rather support a place that genuinely caters to GF people.

thank you for providing options for my husband. it is often difficult to go out anywhere. doesnt matter if its aweful or wonderful...its something and no one has to do it. they are not requirded to have "gluten free" so be blessed that a restaurant chain is at least trying.

more than surprised a chain that boasts its bread sticks and unlimited pasta bowls would have a gluten free pasta option, but amazed that they would take that costly step to open the doors to those with dietary restrictions. the pasta is wonderful, although the GF menu is a little sparse. And of course you must fight the temptation of those warm breadsticks all around you

pasta is dry and sticks together. try mixed grill. great that they have a menu! not many options but good that we now have the option to eat if that's where everyone else wants to go. oh and salad with their dressing is good. croutons on the side!
