They did have a gluten free menu with a decent selection. Our server was fairly knowledgable. I was bummed the chips weren't GF but enjoyed the chicken dish I ordered.
Worst experience ever
contamination!!!!!!! I would avoid this restaurant at all cost I am NOT gluten free my husband and my daughter are they got very sick and I don't like the food either it used to be good a long time ago now it is just absolutely gross!!!
Was awful chips aren't even gluten free
Sadly this food chain has reduced it's GF menu options when they made general menu changes. It's now very difficult to get a full meal here. If they would get a dedicated fryer, their menu would expand significantly! We use to get fajitas and now, you can only get the meat, not the veggies due to the new seasoning mix. It's a chain restaurant so they are subject to corporate policy and changes, but they seem to be going in the wrong direction here. Use to be a go to, now, I avoid.
Their GF menu is very limited. And the knowledge of the staff and management at this location appeared limited too. It took forever for the manager to try to figure out if one of the sauces was safe, and I never even got a straight answer, so I had to forego it. I had fish tacos, which were dry (because of no sauce!) and not that great. My husband had a chimichanga (not GF), which he said was kind of mushy and not very good at all. And the biggest bummer is that the tortilla chips are *not* GF. We won't be going back to this place.
The GF menu was very confusing. The one thing that upset me was that there was queso and guac that you could have, but you can't have the chips. What are you suppose to eat the queso and guac with. I did order my meal with corn tortillas and they were able to give me those.
Food was fine. Just do not care for the atmosphere.
I had a very bad experience here. Was served the fajitas with flour tortillas. When I questioned it - the waitress told me they were GF. I asked to see the manager - who couldn't apologize enough for the waitress - who was wrong. Be careful if you eat here!
Though i called ahead it took them about 10 minutes to find the menu -- and they gave me the vegetarian menu instead. Then it took another five minutes to find the gf menu, which had expired almost a year before. Tortilla chips here are NOT gf. Very limited gf selection. Our waitress was clueless. I asked if corn tortillas were lightly fried because I was concerned about shared oil and she said no, but they arrived lightly fried. I didn't get sick but I think it was a miracle.
Previously worked here too... Tried to tell them ways to improve gluten free menu but nobody cared, even the GM at the time. If you have any real allergy to gluten DO NOT EAT HERE. There are a few items that I would feel confident saying are gluten free ie queso chicken, tomatillo chicken and fajitas without tortillas. Unfortunately the chips are not gluten free and neither are the corn tortillas unless you ask them to microwave them.
Chips are fried in a dedicated fryer at this location, so they are safe. Queso and hot sauce also safe...I just make a "meal" out of those. I haven't been brave enough to order anything else. I do love that they list which margaritas are safe. Herradura is delicious!
When I told them I needed GF, they brought out a separate menu. The waiter was very nice and patient and the food was great. They had true corn tortillas that were nice and soft. I had chicken fajitas and they were fantastic. My only complaint is there is no pricing on the GF menu, and it's somewhat complicated to read.
Asked for the gf menu when we walked in. They have a whole notebook with different menus for a wide variety of allergens, updated with menu changes every two months. It was well-organized. The restaurant itself was clean, with a good atmosphere. We went in just after the lunch rush on a weekday. We ate at RoTB many times prior to finding out my son and I had gluten issues. The food is more Southwest/Tex-Mex than traditional Mexican. Lots of bright, spicy flavors and fresh items. I got the Mango Chicken Salad, and my son had the BBQ-Chipotle Salmon. Both were very good.
They did have a gluten free menu, however it was very confusing to make sense of (ex. One item said you can have ____ without beans, but then on the safe side items it says you can have beans). The waitress we had had no idea about gluten free eating and made a lot of assumptions that would have made me sick had I not corrected her. When I got my food it didn't taste good. The food tastes very "pre-made" and "artificial" to me. Did not enjoy it. Had mad heartburn all night. Would not go back.
They make their own flour tortillas daily. The whole kitchen is contaminated. The GF menu is confusing; tells you you can't have the sides, then lists the sides that are part of the dish on a different part of the menu. I and my son both had major reactions after eating there.
We have been to this location many times with consistent results; excellent choices for gluten free food, knowledgable servers and supportive management staff. I am extremely gluten intolerant and no problems here. Good selections on menu. Would recommend any time.
Server was very informative on gluten free options
I have been to the On the Border on 41st in Tulsa many times. I usually don't order from gf menu. Don't know that I've ever mentioned my food has to be gf. As long as I order enchiladas, tacos, or fajitas, I have no problem. The staff has always been courteous and quick to fill my order. The food has always been delicious. I love going here.
Have a gluten free menu but when asked if they have a different cooking surface for my meal I was told it was cooked on the same grill as all of the other food. Total food contamination. Companies really need to understand what offering something gluten free entails.
Not really gluten free. The have a big, bulky Allergen menu binder they will hunt up for you to search through. Not easy or convenient,, and I don't think the staff has a clue about gluten or cross contamination. I used to think the food was good before I had to deal with Celiac, but both times I've eaten there since I had to go gluten free they've glutened me pretty badly. Try Anita's instead. Much better options on the menu and the staff seems more accommodating even though they don't have a gluten free menu.
Server was very knowledgable and helpful with suggesting GF items on the menu. GF menu is nice, but I always feel better with a server looking out for us. Good variety. Corn chips have a dedicated fryer, so they are safe! Glad we found a Mexican restaurant we can go to now.
I just finished my lunch today for dinner and was still disappointed! We went there due to my parents intolerance for gluten. All they found was a regular menu with special menu items lIsted as not gluten free . You know taco salad without the shell! OLA! BTW Even my meal was not good. Steak in my meal was full of fat. Vey disappointed!
We had a great experience and they were great with my daughters gluten allergy our food was fresh and great our server was a young kid who went for help when we told him about our daughters allergy instead of playing it off like he knew what he was doing ! We will def eat here again. As for the red robin across the way we wont be going to that one be cautious when you go to that red robin !
Very confusing gf menu because almost every corn product is deep fried and marinades have soy sauce (eg, no hard taco shells to be found, no enchiladas either). Better to try Abuelos if there is one near.
