Plaza Bonita is one of 4-5 restaurants in Tusayan (excluding the fast food franchises). It is pretty big, easy to park at, and the staff are very friendly.
The food is good to very good. Everything on the menu is clearly marked as gluten free, and the vast majority of the menu, including the chips, are gluten free. The portions are very big, so you could easily split one main between two people. Good vegetarian options, and some shrimp options. A lot of chicken, chicken mole, steak and pork. Standard margarita and beer menu.
When we were there, it got very crowded after 7 pm - I think people get back from the Grand Canyon around sunset and then come to eat. We ate at 5 pm the next day and it was half empty.

Huge meals at a great price. Friendly staff and a lot of gluten free options. I ordered the enchilada and it was very yummy. I walked away full and happy.❤❤

First of all one of the waiters had attitude everytime she brought anything to the table, she would just toss thing on the table. The main waiter kept forgetting drinks brought wrong food three times. And than they have an 18% gratuity for six people or more, which I think is crazy because food to price does not make sense.

I ate there and did not get sick. If you are celiac don’t eat the tortillas, or the corn tortillas that come with the meal, the waiter informed me they share the fryer, and also warm up the corn tortillas on the same place they warm up the flour tortilla.
I have the lunch creamy chicken, and felt fine after!

It was an excellent experience. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable about the gf items. I was able to eat the chips, which is a rare thing. I was thrilled with my food. I'm staying a week at the Grand Canyon and will dine here often. I did not have any sickness from this place.

My son (7, wheat allergy) ordered the Super Nachos, listed under appetizers. It was a HUGE platter. He ate a small portion, he didn't get sick and I did double check that they fry and prepare in a separate area of the kitchen for gluten free. Food was decent, not the best Mexican food, but not the worst, either. We would go back.

I had my worst gluten poisoning in 24 years last night after eating at Plaza Bonita at the Grand Canyon.
I was able to enjoy 5 or 6 hours of alternating explosive diarrhea and projectile vomiting.
We ordered a Veggie Fajita platter for two. Our waitress Yubi seemed knowledgeable about GF food, she advised me not to eat the corn chips because they are cooked in oil also used for breaded items.
I think what poisoned me was the warm corn tortillas, because the only other things I ate were Spanish rice, black beans, and a salad with guacamole.
The food was really excellent, so that makes it more disappointing that it made me ill. My husband ate the same meal, he is fine, this was gluten and nothing else.

The menu s clearly marked. The server said the fryer was separate so the flautas were GF. When Traveling I error on the side of caution and go with what I know I can trust. I had the pork tacos. They were delicious and plentiful! No gluten!

When the waitress took my order I wasn’t very confident that it would be safe but ate it anyway knowing there wasn’t many other options available. But to my surprise I had no reaction and it was pretty good food for a touristy area as long as you’re okay with Americanized dishes.

Menu was marked with gluten free items. Explained my allergy. Server assured me I would be safe. 2 hours later I am NOT ok. I haven't been gluten contaminated this bad in years. Not a happy customer.

Some of the staff seemed like they weren’t very knowledgeable about gluten free, and my server wasn’t very informative about all the precautions they would take, however everything that he told me was gluten free was. I never got sick and I’m a pretty sensitive Celiac, so I would recommend! I felt uneasy because I am so sensitive, but in the end it was delicious food that didn’t bother me one bit (besides the fact that it was Mexican haha!) I had the chips and salsa appetizer, the regular enchiladas with pulled beef, and the beans and rice that came with it and was feeling fine! Definitely recommend going after a visit to the Grand Canyon!

My family and I visited the Canyons South Rim and this restaurant is very close to the park.
I had chips, salsa and pollo crema with corn tortillas, all of it was excellent!
My daughter had the kids menu quesadillas on corn tortillas.
We both have celiac.
The rest of the family enjoyed their meals as well. Nice kids menu. Seems to be something for everyone, right down to chicken nuggets and fries (not gf)!

This restaurant has gluten-free items marked. (You will need to let them know that you need it to be gluten-free.) But they have a much wider selection than most restaurants. We had the flautas and they were amazing!

Excellent dinner! We decided on this place after two locals (one at the Grand Canyon and one at our hotel) said this is where the locals good for a good dinner. Both my husband and I eat gluten free. I ordered the Enchiladas Mole - at a lot of Mexican restaurants the Mole isn't gluten free, so I was thrilled. It was very fresh and delish! My husband had what they called Mexican stir fry - loaded with veggies, chicken, and lots of cheese on top. We didn't ask if the chips were fried alone, did take a risk there, yet I would be pretty surprised if they weren't fried alone (saw them loaded up their chip warmers from a huge bucket of chips that's probably made fresh every day). The salsa was VERY good - subtle herbs, nice layer of heat! Probably 3/4 the menu is gluten free, marked clearly on the menu. 2 others in our group - sr and kid - also loved it. (Kids margarita - any flavor, non alcoholic blended with whipped cream!) And yes, lots of locals were eating there so in a town where places seem to be more, for the Grand Canyon tourists, this was a great find. Enjoy!!

This place is amazing! The staff is very helpful and understanding of extra measures that need to be taken. I had chips, salsa, and guacamole. The manager reassured that the chips have their own fryer. Also the guacamole doesn’t have dairy! I order the fajitas I saw they press their tortilla shells so I made sure to mention not to put my corn tortillas on it. Which was no problem. I am dairy free as well I asked with no cheese and sour cream. All was so delicious and a HUGE portion (6 fajitas can be made). I stayed at the hotel right next door(they give a 10% discount with key card). I ate here 3 times during my vacation because it was so amazing and safe. Definitely go here If you are visiting the canyon.
Yes
Not celiac friendly. Asked three different workers who all answered differently about fryer and griddle. So I walked out. Don’t recommend.
No
Amazing gluten-free Mexican food. Tons of options and variety. Quite expensive, but very good nonetheless.
Yes
Big portions. Had the nachos and cheese/mole enchiladas. Chips are OK to eat for celiacs. Heavy food, certainly not healthy but satisfying.
Yes
There were very few options when staying in this town. We were SO thankful for this restaurant! They had a separate fryer to avoid cross contamination. Great food and service as well!
Yes
Beware if you have celiac. They have things labeled gf that are not. Their flautas, etc are fried in the same oil as their battered and floured items. Their food was at most mediocre. Conveniently located though.
Good food. Gluten free menu, mexican
Food was fantastic and plenty of GF options
Yes
Almost the entire menu is gluten free! Everything was excellent from the cheese dip to the flaiutas to the fabulously fresh margaritas!
The staff was excellent and attentive. The menu offers extensive gluten free options, which is hard to find near the Grand Canyon! Our only disappointment was discovery this place on our last day at the Canyon!
Yes
GF items are marked. Had taquitos, very good, no reaction.
Only place I felt safe eating in the Canyon area, and their carne asada tacos and rice were delicious!
just tried to eat here after a very long drive.Waiter was not very knowledgeable about gluten free. While their menu has gluten free marked, they use the same fryer he said. He recommended I have a salad....we got up and left. Very disappointed!
No
How lovely to find an excellent and authentic Mexican restaurant that has a clearly marked menu for GF! The food is fresh and homemade, especially recommend the shrimp salad with mango and avocado. The tacos al carbon are also great.
Great place w way more than the usual "safe" taco/enchilada options! Menu is clearly marked w gf options and there's tons of things I've always wanted to try. May be eating here twice on our Grand Canyon trip.
Yes
They know about gluten! The chips are fried in a dedicated fryer. Plenty of options. I had enchiladas deluxe. Great casual place with no wait on a Friday night.
The waiter did not seem to blow us off, got sick after eating.
Ate here two nights in a row while in Grand Canyon and had great meals (and big portions!). Good service and tons of GF options clearly marked on menu. Corn tortilla chips are made in a dedicated fryer so you can have chips too :)
I've eaten there twice. Everything is clearly labled on the menu. For most of the things I have had, the only thing they do differently is bring you corn tortillas. Lots of food and haven't gotten sick!
Yes
We went 3 times during our stay. Each waiter was knowledgeable about the gluten free menu. Lots of choices available.

We ate here twice during our stay at the Grand Canyon. Very good food and no reaction!

Told the server no gluten, grain, or dairy...the 'Mexican stir fry' came out cooked in butter and lots of corn. After reiterating the allergy of grain and dairy, the second attempt came out drenched in butter. Poor experience overall.
No
Almost everything is gluten free and marked on the menu. Good food, good atmosphere, and kid-friendly.

An oasis of GF goodness in an area with few options. This place has MANY GF options and the staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. We ate there for dinner and breakfast. Two celiacs... No problems. And food was very good.
Don't be afraid of a long line... They turn the tables quickly. The place was packed when w walked in with a long list of people ahead of us. But they say is in 13 mins. Not bad!
