100% gluten-free kitchen. Arepas, if you haven’t had one, are the National dish of Venezuela, and they are naturally gluten free—so it isn’t a modification like gf bread which often reminds me of baked play-dough. The “bread” of the arepa is basically a grilled cornmeal cake, but delicious.
I’ve only ever ordered the Pabellon. Stewed beef, black beans, cheese, a cilantro-avocado sauce you could eat by the bowlful, and a magical hunk of sweet plantain, all stuffed in the tastiest cornmeal bread-like bun! It makes my heart sing with every bite. The pro tip: fork over the extra $2 for the added mozzarella.
The only downside is the arepas can be really messy to eat, but I think that’s mostly a good thing!! Also, the passion fruit juice is just the perfect blend of sweet and tart.
