Riras has a dedicated fryer and an extensive gluten free menu. I love their Buffalo chicken and their fish and chips. Great views in a cool part of Portland too.

Had the best experience - even with a large party of 10 which can be nerve-wracking. In addition to 2 Celiac meals we got onion rings to split between a bunch of us and when I asked to confirm the onion rings were gf I was told Ri Ra’s default fryers are gluten free (which I guess you can tell from the clearly stated gluten free batter for chicken and fish on the menu) and that they have a separate fryer for the one-off gluten items. Cool to see a reversal on the usual “dedicated fryer” situation and we felt great!

It was really nice to be able to eat in an Irish Pub! We stopped in for a snack after wandering around Old Port and it was so easy to pick something quickly and order. Our waitress told us that the fryer is dedicated gluten free and most things (as seen on the menu) are available gluten free. She was very knowledgeable and wrote a note about avoiding cross contact for the kitchen. We got fries and onion rings, both of which were delicious. I would definitely recommend stopping in if you’re in the area!

We have a dedicated fryer for all of our gluten free products. Our breading for chicken is made with a blend of rice, garbanzo, fava, sorghum, tapioca and potato flours. We season all of our chicken with a house spice blend and fry in 100% canola oil.
Our fish is now battered with gluten free beer and our flour blend, meaning all items in our big fryers are 100% gluten free.
Nearly all of our sandwiches + burgers can be made gluten free by substituting a gluten free bun by Udi’s for $1 more (the exception to this is our veggie burger, which is made with wheat bread crumbs).
Such a great pub. I felt normal going in and being able to order a burger and fries and have an Irish Cider. Food and atmosphere were great.

Great experience. Came here on a Thursday afternoon. Waiter was aware of celiacs and I just asked to make sure they still had a gluten free fryer and he assured me they did. Fish and chips were well portioned and very tasty. Buttermilk crispy chicken sandwich on an Udis bun was phenomenal! The bun didn’t fall apart like usual bc they toasted it! Mayo packets very difficult open!! That’s my only complaint and if that’s the case, the place is a okay in my book!

Rí Rá has a few different fryers, a couple are dedicated gluten free. The fish and chips… AMAZING. The onion rings were also great. They had a handful of other gluten free options on the menu.

We had a wonderful time! The fried fish and chips were the best we have had. (I’ve had 3 in 2 days) They appear to change their cooking oil quickly as the fish had no fried-after-taste. So good! And my stomach was fine after eating. Fryers are dedicated GF per the waitress.

Very nice dinner experience. The server was very knowledgeable and experienced with celiac as well as the kitchen practices. There were quite a few marked items on the menu and our celiac didn’t have any reaction to the fried food. The meals weren’t marked when they came out, but it wasn’t a big deal with our order.

Amazing! Server confirmed that all fried items are made of gluten free ingredients (chicken, fish, fries, etc), meaning no cross contamination in the fryer. Portland overall has been a great city as a celiac, but this is probably the best experience so far in terms of getting to eat foods that I normally can’t (fried chicken, fish ‘n chips). Even my non celiac, gluten-eating husband thought the food was great!

Writing this so others can learn from my mistake!! I recently dined here and took their GF accommodations at face value. I ordered the fish & chips and when asking the waitress to please also note a gluten allergy she claimed I had nothing to worry about so I thought I was safe. What I didn’t do is confirm separate prep areas/fryers for the fish and/or fries. I have ended up having one of the more severe reactions I’ve had in a long time so assuming the cross contamination was heavy. Ultimately my mistake for not clarifying so posting as a fair warning for everyone else!

Fantastic gluten free dining experience. Menu has plenty gluten free options including the fish and chips which is always gluten free. Burger bun option is Udi’s which are great. I was so happy to have a real meal here. Friendly service and a cool old pub style building.

I only learned of this restaurant from the app. While I previously looked at the menu online, when we arrived I asked if there was a separate gluten free menu or if it was incorporated within the menu. The hostess had to look at the menu to see that it was incorporated, not a big deal.
The restaurant itself is absolutely awesome. After we were seated, we were told that they were out of gluten free buns. The menu is self explanatory and wonderfully marked for gluten free, vegetarian and vegan. The chicken bites were gluten free, tender and juicy and the sauces are labeled as gluten free or not. The French fries were nothing special, could’ve been crispier for our liking. A friends seafood chowder was cold and kids pasta and garlic butter had about a half of a cup of sitting butter at the bottom of the bowl. I got a steak and cheese which I thought would come with mayonnaise. The sandwich itself didn’t have enough cheese and it was pretty dry.
The atmosphere is great. I REALLY wanted to like this place more given the gluten free options, but they weren’t all readily available: furthermore, the cost for the quality wasn’t worth it for us.

Being gluten free I miss onion rings. Ri' R'a' has gluten free onion rings! They are thin cut, like onion straws, yet so good.

I have celiac and was craving fish and chips our entire trip. Seems odd that an Irish pub would have the best fish and chips but hands down the best meal I had while visiting!

Almost missed this place and it would have been a shame. Had drinks in the first floor pub.. great ambiance... then ate dinner upstairs looking over the harbor. Staff very friendly and knew all about gf options and made suggestions... had great gf fish and chips and Irish cider.. really enjoyed this experience and will return.

At first I was pleasantly surprised with my waitress stating that many cooks and workers have celiac after I told her about my allergy. There is a dedicated frier as well!! HOWEVER, things took a turn. I had ordered the chicken bites and the waitress asked me if I wanted sauce (saying the only sauce not being Gf is the sweet chili). I ordered a side of the BBQ sauce to go with the chicken bites. As I am eating my meal she comes back to the table and says “oh I don’t know if you have already started eating but the bbq sauce has gluten in it”… what a terrible turn to my dinner as I have eaten half of my meal with the SAUCE. I would not recommend this place to any one with a celiac allergy as I asked another waitress after if something was gluten free and she did not know either.

I was impressed and surprised to learn that they were so gluten friendly since that was not the case years ago! Only gluten free items go in the fryer and the waitress was diligent in noting my dietary needs. Had the burger on gluten free bun with fries. Both were great and had no reaction, one of the better gluten free burgers I’ve had in a while.

The menu clearly states gf. Waiter knew the importance of gf. Told both chefs working about gf need) Had the onion rings, chicken bites and the fish and chips. Dedicated fryer. Incredible. I was so pleased with the experience at this restaurant. Every sandwich could be done gluten free with gluten free bread crumbs. I have celiac and haven’t eaten a fried chicken sandwich for over two years and was so happy when I could break that streak at Ri Ra. The food was excellent and there are so many amazing options for people who are GF. Def recommend 10/10

Offer a few gf selections. Not many. Just salads.
Just a couple salads really. I had the Harvest salad. It was just okay. They offer one gf side, mashed potatoes, which were very good.
Waitress I had was very knowledgeable. She had celiacs as well and knew there was not much on the menu.
