First time I've been at a restaurant and felt like I wasn't "that ONE with the food restrictions" It was 8pm on Saturday night and after a 12 hour day of driving my husband and I found a hotel for the night and through "Find me Gluten Free". found this little gem in a small downtown area of Smithfield NC. The restaurant has a small dining area and a bar that has people eating , drinking , laughing. We sat at the bar and Jessica was our delightful bartender. She went through everything on the menu and basically there are two apps that can't be made GF. We still had 5-6 other apps to choose from. The chicken wings were so tasty that we needed to make a concerted effort to pace ourselves for our dinner which came with the sides we picked of collard greens and tater tots. Those delicious tots were golden crunchy on the outside with that hot potato filling inside. The meal was accompanied with 2 slices of toasted white bread ( that you swear it can't be GF; it's so delicious) The manager Ian came over to say hello and explained to us how seriously he takes his GF offerings. He wanted to make sure our meal was good. It was more than good!!The BBQ'd meats of chicken, ribs, pulled pork and brisket had to have been slow cooked with such patience as to keep it juicy on the inside and the appropriate outside as in the crisp outside skin of chicken. Also on the menu was six or so paninis , burgers with bread for the roll and not the usual "just ask for no bun if you're GF". We were so full of a delicious dinner we had no room for desert which never happens to me. Jessica was great to come out with a to go box since we didn't finish dinner. I can't wait to eat those leftovers. So if you're in the area head over for a delicious down home BBQ...and if you're not in the area , make it a destination !
