The staff was very understanding about my celiac and explained they will try to clean everything as well as they can but made sure to tell me they can’t guarantee 100% gluten free. I decided to take a chance and age one anyway, the next morning the usual gluten symptoms showed up, with an intensity that leads me to believe the cross contamination is bigger than I thought it would be. I would recommend for people with gluten sensitivity but not for anyone with celiac disease !

Amazing food and service! Only 2 items on the menu were not GF. Very aware of cross contamination risks. The food was incredible, sweet or savoury crepes and variety of beverages. Will definitely go back next time I’m in town!

As others have noted, it’s a little trek away from downtown (about a 30 minute walk from where we stayed in Old Montreal) but 1000% worth the hike! The savory crepes are all naturally gluten free being made with buckwheat. While the kitchen can’t promise the risk of no cross contamination, the chef will clean the preparation space before preparing a crepe for someone with celiac. (I’m very sensitive to cross contamination and did not get sick so greatly appreciate the preparation process identified by the server). The crepe was hands down the best crepe I’ve ever eaten, gluten free or not. I got the Petit Burgundy crepe and was blown away by how delicious it was (naturally GF)! Would recommend to anyone in Montreal looking for an authentic crepe experience.

Expérience incroyable chez Spanel! Les galettes de sarrasin sont SG, et les ingrédients aussi (sauf la béchamel clairement indiquée) et cuites sur un plan de travail différent des crêpes régulières. Les galettes sont TELLEMENT bonnes, autant les sucrées que salées!! Ils connaissent le sans gluten et ont fait attention avec ma commande. J’ai eu aucune réaction! J’y retournerai c’est certain!!

The service was really good! The salty crepes were all gluten free and you have the option to order the sweet crepes gluten free as well. Will defend come back.

Excellent experience here! Was able to choose from a variety of options and staff easily pointed out the NOT safe option (more safe than not safe). Was nice to feel included and enjoy these buckwheat crepes!

My husband and I went here for breakfast on our babymoon. We both ate gluten free as I’m Celiac. He enjoyed the buckwheat crepe with scrambled egg. Avocado. Cheese and bacon. Where I had the buckwheat crepe with arugula goat cheese and prosciutto ( no tomatoes for me !). I have to say the staff are incredibly friendly and the food was delicious. I felt safe eating here as a celiac being 7 months pregnant. Would def go back.

Make sure that they serve the dessert/sweet crepes with the dark colored buckwheat flour which is gluten free! We experienced a miscommunication or English-French translation error that resulted in being served a regular wheat flour dessert crepe.

I preferred buckwheat galettes and crepes before diagnosis, and this place has plenty of both to choose from for celiac and gluten eating folks alike. Not quite as good as the ones I remember having in Paris, but still quite tasty. The also make sweet crepes with wheat flour, but when I told them I had celiac, the server assured me that the griddle would be cleaned thoroughly before making my food, and I had no reaction after eating.
