Taqueria 27

Nice for a date night (I did see a few kids, but it seems more modern than family), menu is marked with “GF” (I’ll include photos), and the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Our server mentioned two different fryers that never come in contact with gluten and basically anything can be made gluten free. I’ve heard from several people that Taqueria 27 is good and safe, so I was excited to try everything—especially the churros. I make churros at home, and I must admit the churros here were disappointing. I don’t know if they were made with buckwheat flour or something, but they tasted a little off. The chocolate sauce was good, but the whipped cream didn’t have any sugar in it. The food was beautiful but definitely not large portion sizes, and everything was a bit underseasoned. Even just having a salt shaker on the table would have helped. We got nacho fries as an appetizer, and they were probably the best thing we had, but also a little underseasoned. I got the Achiote Marinated Fried Chicken Breast Tacos and my husband got the Chile-Citrus Carnitas Tacos. The fried chicken was maybe a bit dry and needed salt, but I was still excited to say I had fried chicken. The carnitas had fries inside. I think I probably liked the fried chicken tacos more, but they weren’t fantastic. Overall, the food was fairly good, beautiful, not filling, and needed more seasoning. But it was a fun date and our server was very nice. I’d come again.

Their churros are 100% gluten-free, and everything on their menu is gluten-free except for the flour tortillas, which everything come on a corn tortilla. You have to ask for a flour tortilla specifically. The staff is very knowledgeable about celiac.

Love this place and come here pretty regularly. The menu was recently updated to show what is and isn’t gluten free and the waiters are usually helpful with any accommodations - most of the menu is or can be done gluten free. They do put flour tortilla strips in guac “for presentation” (so dumb), but the tortilla chips are safe - just let them know you have a gluten allergy and ask to leave those off if you order guac. They also have gluten free churros AND recently just came out with gluten free fried ice cream! I’m excited to try it, but the churros are always a huge hit on date night. I always mention my “allergy” and I haven’t ever had issues

Sat down and told our waiter I had Celiac and asked for some help with the menu as things are not labeled. He was unhelpful and simply said almost anything is gluten free. Ended up getting some tacos that were okay but didn’t know they had fries in them… had to run up to the kitchen to verify the fries were in a separate fried as our waiter was no where to be found. Okay food and service, luckily didn’t get sick!

Staff is very aware of gluten free/ celiac allergies. Corn tortillas are available to substitute out flour tortillas, bowls are delicious and gluten free churros!!

Unfortunately, after speaking to the manager and also, the waiter, who both assured me that the shrimp would be cooked on a clean pan, my shrimp had specks of what appeared to be seasoning. When I brought this to the attention of the waiter, he told me it was not seasoned, though the specks were from the grill, which means that cross contamination was a real concern. I was unable to eat the shrimp. Even though they claim to have gluten free options, a bit more training and understanding of cross contamination would be beneficial.

Had an amazing meal here. They totally get it. Server was knowledgeable, there are so many gluten-free options, and the food was delicious. I came here mostly to post pictures of the food so you all can dream about it.
