Butcher’s Son (VB)
I had dinner at Butcher's Son in VB last night. I called beforehand to check if they could accommodate Celiac and they confirmed they could. Unfortunately, all tables were taken, so we sat at the bar. If there were available tables, I wouldn't have opted for the bar, but I'm glad we ended up there due to our bartender, Izzy. It turns out that she also has Celiac. She was amazing and took great care in handling my order to make sure it was safe for me. It was a relief not having to give my typical Celiac speech.

*** update ***
After getting glutened I met with one of the managers. She admitted their mistake, thanked me for bringing it to their attention and are making changes.
What did I learn despite having CD since 1997? Always ask questions even if you think it’s ok. In this case I should have been proactive and asked if it was a shared fryer or not.
They took appropriate actions and we’ll be going back again to give it a go soon.

Old review…
My wife & I vetted this place quite a bit, including talking to both the manager and a sous chef. We both thought it would be a good place to go & that I would be safe. We were VERY wrong! Although they have GF items clearly marked on the menu, they forgot to mention something that I found out the hard way.
As we were pulling out of the parking lot I mentioned to my wife I was pretty certain I got cross contaminated. About 30 mins later I knew for certain I had been. Then you know what happened that evening and for the next few days.
I contacted them as I suspected there was a shared fryer in the mix since I had french fries. It was confirmed. EVERYTHING they fry is done in the same fryer: both gluten and gf items. So anything fried is most certainly NOT GF! I have to even write it, but it makes me wonder what else might be glutened that's marked as GF!

We just tried this place for the first time and it was delicious! They mark their gluten free menu items. I just wish they had gluten free breads and/or pasta to make more of the menu gluten free. We definitely will be back though! My steak tenderloin was cooked perfectly.

The waitress was extremely knowledgeable about the gluten free options. She even asked how severe my reaction was to know if she should even bring bread to the table (hubby is not gf). Huge selection to choose from. They even offer a gf dessert (chocolate torte) which was extremely yummy. I am pretty sensitive when it comes to cross contamination and did not get sick. Prices are normal for a steak house. There were children present.
