Ordered a hamburger on a GF bun. There is an extra charge for the GF bun, but it wasn't much extra. Food was good and they claimed to have a dedicated fryer. Service wasn't very fast, but this isn't a fast food restaurant.
I enjoyed the spinach avocado bison bowl and grilled veggies. Superb quality of meat, excellent service. Love this place.
Pretty good! There was actually variety and the burger was good. The bun was dry but I wasn't expecting much so it was good for what it was.
Heard they had a gluten-free menu, so went in and tried. Ordered the jalapeno and grilled pineapple burger. Good stuff. There staff was knowledgable and told me they use a gluten free fryer and toast there gluten free buns in a separate area to avood cross contamination. Will be back.
The food that was served to us correctly at The Counter was actually quite good. Unfortunately, poor service overshadowed the good parts of the meal. The wait staff was reasonably attuned and accommodating to the needs of gluten-free. However, despite clearly advertising them, they were out of GF buns, which made the meal much less filling. They were out of other ingredients as well, and made several mistakes with our order. The Counter has potential to be a decent GF restaurant, but they need to get their act together in relation to ingredient availability and service first.
These burgers are FANCY! This isn't a greasy food joint. If you can imagine the burger, you can order it here. GF buns available or you can get a bowl. They also have vegan options including cheese! A full service bar made the drink with my burger even more enjoyable.
Extremely knowledgeable. All I said was I am allergic to gluten and dairy, and voila! The message was passed from cashier to food prep worker to change her gloves and written on my order ticket. They even have all the gf sauces labeled for you. I had to wait an extra minute, if that, for my 50/50 fries (sweet potato and regular). All of the workers acknowledged the allergy and took every precaution. Thank you to the people who reviewed this place before me.
They have a separate GF menu, that says a lot. French fries and a burger, great combo. Burger in a bowl with GF turkey chili is great! You have to put up with a few rude waiters however.
Excellent place! Very knowledgable about GF. They have a good menu with a lot of options. They serve the burgers on an Udi's roll, which can get boring like most burger places do. But the burger was excellent and the fries are gluten free too! Great place to eat in Times Square.
Staff was entirely knowledgeable about allergies, and knew exactly the what and what not that I could have. The gluten free burgers come bun-less and with 3 toppings. It was honestly one of the best burgers I've had. Period. The fries were great as well. If you're stuck in the San Diego airport for whatever reason, I would highly recommend stopping by here.
Burger was great! Bun was ok. Sweet potato fries with garlic aoili is the way to go
Good gluten free options-loved my burger-but when food was served to our table it was not made clear which was the gluten free meals. The server said that fries were gluten free but as a celiac I wasn't confident that they were careful enough about cross contamination to order them.
Love the choices. Great hamburgers and fries. Our favorite is the mini burgers. Organic and fresh!!
We visited this location several weeks ago and we made the mistake of assuming that we could safely eat there. Although we communicated about our need to eat GF due to Celiac, we didn't find out until it was too late that the fries we had already consumed were prepared in the same fryer as wheat containing items because the GF fryer was broken. The poor server rushed out to tell us as soon as she found out but my daughter was hysterical upon getting the news since she was worried about getting physically ill & we were 45 minutes from our hotel. The manager there was not even apologetic and said that they couldn't guarantee the food would be GF. She didn't charge us for the burgers that those with Celiac couldn't eat due to having to rush out of there but I was extremely disappointed in her response and would have expected that a restaurant that offers a gluten free menu would at least brief their staff before the dinner shift if there are changes that might affect their customers. I am so disappointed at how this wasn't communicated.
they rely on manufacture's statements and Fda guidelines rather that what is safe. after lots of discussion and written instructions, the wait staff talked the kitchen through my order - which arrived with grill marks anyway. DO NOT get seasoning on your fries!!!! the manager was apologetic, and I appreciated it. still, I wouldn't eat at this chain ever again unless they went 100% dedicated facility. I was trying to be nice to an accommodating friend who found the place, and my table mates were pretty uncomfortable. I doubt I'll be eating out with them ever again.
My husband and I absolutely love this place. We have been in LA for about 10 days and have eaten here 3 times. They have delicious gluten free buns (that are clearly lactose free, as we are both very sensitive) and also offer Daiya "cheddar". Their burgers are so delicious that they mute the terrible fake cheese taste; it's actually worth adding to the burger. Try one with pineapple, jalapeño, bacon and bbq! Their regular fries are safe, but the sweet potato fries are where it's at! The only gf beer they had available is Omission (not safe for Celiacs); however, they offer raspberry and pear ciders that are delicious and not too sweet. All in all, dining here has repeatedly been a wonderful experience that left neither my husband or myself feeling ill after indulging in a meal we rarely are able to enjoy. Last but not least, the staff has been very friendly and accommodated. 5 starts for this place!
Lots of interesting choices for burger toppings, and dairy free friendly. Ask for the allergen list. They say the fries are safe but I forget if they are a dedicated fryer. Our favorite of the many burger joints. A little pricey, but the add-ons aren't as expensive as most places, so you can get creative with lots of toppings.
Dedicated GF menu. Worked well for our son with celiac.
So happy to find this place. I wish I could post pics -they have a great gf menu, a dedicated fryer and even gf milkshakes. You can pick bison, chicken, turkey or regular burgers. Fry options are sweet potato or Regular. Tons of topping choices and a good gf bun. Right on times sq.
Gluten free bun option both for breakfast sandwich or burger - not listed on breakfast menu but I asked and it was fine. Good bacon and egg, average bun, amazing to get to eat a proper breakfast sandwich in the airport! Service on the slow side.
Good selection on their GF menu. Great burgers and dedicated fryer for all their french fries, which were wonderful, especially the sweet potato fries! Yum! My super sensitive celiac wife had a bison burger in a bowl, and had no trouble afterwards. We will definitely eat here again next time in the city!
I really enjoyed this place. Sure, it's a bit expensive, but there are SO many options to choose from, even on the GF menu! They offer toppings well beyond your typical burger place and had a nice selection of wine. I think they had a GF beer as well, but I don't recall. I had a bison burger with several toppings, including sauces, and a gluten free bun (you can also get a lettuce bun or lettuce bed). The bun was good and didn't fall apart like some GF buns. I have celiac disease and I am very sensitive to cross-contamination and I felt great after eating here!
This place rocks - dedicated fryers, fresh, sustainable local food, burger bowl/salad on menu! Hostess knew exactly which items have gluten, marked menu for me. Gluten-free buns are made from rice.
This may be safe, but the food was average and the service was awful. Our food took forever and arrived cold.
- New Update - For some reason they have eliminated their gluten free menu. Their chili is no longer gluten free, and they say their fries are no longer gluten free and share the same fryer as their gluten containing goods. When I asked for a gluten free menu (I always like to see if anything has been updated and changed before ordering) the waitress brought out a hand-written sticky not saying was sauces were okay. Overall very disappointed, but they still have their gluten free buns so I'll keep a three star rating. I'll be going to the new nearby in and out for my french fry fix from now on. Best burger place around that accommodates gluten allergies. They've got a nicely designed gluten free menu, and list absolutely everything that is gluten free, which turns out to be a lot here.
Update: we've eaten here several times & Celiac hubby has not gotten sick. The food is good, though expensive, & the service has been flat out bad the last few times. But the sweet potato fries & organic bison burger are so good I can't totally write them off yet. They do now have packets of "Heinz Natural" HFCS free ketchup if you ask for it. I previously gave this location one star for being generally clueless. They seem to have dramatically improved and do indeed now have a dedicated frier for the fries (regular and sweet potato). I wish they had organic ketchup, they only have the Heinz HFCS filled junk. They do have organic bison and organic greens. I will update again after super sensitive hubby has eaten there a few times so we can gauge how safe they really are. But they have definitely taken steps in the right direction. And the bison burger in a bowl and fries were DELICIOUS. (They do have GF buns, Udi's I think, and a GF beer or two.)
The waiter here was amazing! They told me they would do mine in a separate saute pan so it never touched the grill! He understood celiac disease and food allergies! He stressed to the kitchen the importance of my order (I could overhear it). Could handle the dairy allergy as well. Bonus: Udi's Gluten Free Buns!
