Have stopped here twice and WOW am I impressed! The best pot roast and potatoes and gravy I have had in a long time and at a restaurant ever!! Licked my plate clean. Not sure on how safe it is in the kitchen as I haven’t asked but I have not gotten sick here. 10/10 recommend

Had the roast with mashed potatoes and green beans. Asked for the gluten free gravy. I had severe stomach problems shortly after. The food was good though, maybe too good!!

Called the To-Go number and the individual who picked up was not familiar with any GF options. We heard him ask 4 people as they passed and none of them were familiar either. He finally asked the Kitchen manager and they finally said yes and then walked away. This experience didn't provide confidence so we passed on ordering there.

I wanted to love this place. Not many gluten free choices. Everyone at the table had an excellent meal but for gluten free options this just isn’t the place

My son got the bbq ribs and mashed potatoes and green beans. He substituted the pintos for the corn chowder. He got ice cream for dessert. It was all very good and everyone brought enough leftovers home for another meal.

It's always a gamble going out to eat but we felt totally safe here! My 9 year old celiac ate safely!! She had the pot roast with gravy & mashed potatoes and started with a side salad. The rolls and fritters are not gluten free so I would have brought her a roll if I had known that. She was able to have vanilla ice cream for dessert. No reactions, will definitely go again!

Not celiac, but husband has a gluten allergy. Food was absolutely delicious. The 3 of us ordered the catfish, bbq platterfavorable. Substituted the corn chowder for the vegetable soup. Even have GF brown gravy. All flavorable!

Had the southern bbq plate, which was pulled pork. They serve family style so I could also eat coleslaw, green beans, mashed potatoes and brown gravy. I also had a side salad with ranch. Could not have the clam chowder or fritters/buns. Also, I passed on dessert because I was so full but I think you can have ice cream that is gluten free. It was delicious and I had no reaction. Large portions so had leftovers for another day. Fun environment and tasty food.

Not good for breakfast at all there isn’t a separate gf menu, only thing I could have was the omelet seeing as there wasn’t any gluten free bread or batter. When I asked to substitute the biscuit with bacon the waitress said I can only substitute the biscuit with toast. However when we asked to clairify they had gluten free bread the waitress said they don’t have any which doesn’t make sense why you would suggest to someone with a wheat allergy to substitute the biscuit with toast that still contains wheat. Wasn’t a very good experience and our waitress didn’t seem to really know what she was talking about either.

I’ve been coming to the area for years and have never tried this restaurant. I saw an addition of a gf menu and a couple of good reviews and decided to try it. This is by far our new favorite gf restaurant! Food was obviously made from scratch and everything we had was wonderful! The waitress made sure to flag my order as GF and also advised that I could switch the normal corn chowder offered with meals to the beef vegetable soup. The portions were very large and everyone (even not gf) raved about their entrees, fresh biscuits and soup. I was so hoping I wouldn’t get sick and I had no reactions at all! We will be eating here several times every trip from now on. Grateful for the places that can accommodate us but it was wonderful to be able to get pot roast, GRAVY, potatoes and veg instead of the normal gf offering of a burger. Lunch prices were really reasonable. Highly recommend.

Service was great. Separate gluten feee menu. My daughter who has Celiac ordered beef vegetable soup, steak, green beans, mashed potatoes, and vanilla ice cream. I (also Celiac) had the beef vegetable soup, broiled spicy fish, green beans, mashed potatoes. No dedicated fryer.

Family decided to eat here while on vacation. I am celiac and have a dairy allergy. I was very nervous about eating here based on the reviews and things I’ve seen online. (ie. Rude/Unknowledgeable waiters, limited food options, cross contamination and so on) But I wanted to leave a newer review to help anyone coming in 2020 and beyond! My waiter was very kind about my diet restrictions and automatically made any substitutions she could. (Example: she brought me a beef and veggie stew to eat while my family ate the traditional corn chowder) While the menu is limited, there are some options. I ordered the grilled chicken on a bed of rice. (Because of my dairy allergy we asked to make sure it wasn’t cooked with butter as well as any possible gluten contamination) Our waitress was very knowledgeable and accommodating to these requests and I was so relieved. Dining out can be so stressful and sometimes scary with any dietary restrictions and while Old Mill is not a designated gluten friendly restaurant, I will say they did a good job of accommodating all that they could to insure my safety. 👍🏼 I got the grilled chicken and rice. They brought me a bowl of fruit to substitute for mashed potatoes since they have dairy and I could have the green beans! Full and satisfied. So thankful! God bless, happy dining. 💛

Love the chicken florentine The creamed spinach is gluten free. Very good. This was at the pottery cafe.
Very few offerings are gluten free, waitress really did not get it. I only ordered a drink because there wasn’t anything that I wanted to eat. The waitress kept thinking we were going to split my wife’s plate.
There just wasn’t anything for me.
Very few vegetarian offerings.

So helpful! You have to ask for the gluten free menu as the regular menu does not have designation. Our server was extremely knowledgeable and helped me out on how to order. Definitely worth the trip!
Seemed knowledge about gluten, and while I didn’t get sick, not sure they really “flag” anything as gluten allergy as when I told the waiter he just stared at me and when I asked how he lets the kitchen know he replied “you’re not the first we know what we’re doing” again, didn’t get sick but very very busy place and our waiter wasn’t all that patient with questions. The food is so/so, limited options. You can basically have meat, mashed potatoes, green beans and salad. None of their signature southern dishes are gf or substituted with gf ingredients so the gf meals are boring in comparison
This restaurant has a detailed allergy menu to help you order. While options are a little limited, it is so nice to be able to eat safely at a “country-style” restaurant with your gluten-eating family. I had the best pot roast EVER! It came with salad, green beans, and mashed potatoes (and my family allows me to dip first out of shared family-style bowls because they understand cross-contamination.) Because I could not get the soup or bread, the waiter let me get two extra veggies, and I got carrots and cabbage to myself. Ended with GF ice cream! This was my favorite meal in the Smokies!
Yes
Their menu wasn’t very clear and server wasn’t that knowledgeable. Went with the “safest” thing....ham, mashed potatoes, and green beans. Was an ok meal.
Always nervous about eating out but 8 out of 10, worth a try? Nope.. I should have known when I asked our waitress if they mark it as a gluten allergy and she said "no, you know what you can eat that's gluten free?" (face palm) I proceeded with correct and tries to explain cross contamination and she stated that the bread is cooked in the bakery (face palm) . I shouldn't have eaten here, definitely was cc'd. Lesson learned, I don't care how rude it may come across I'll never eat somewhere that is so nonchalant about it. She did take my sweet potato off of my husband's plate because the cook staff put it on his plate with gravy to save room (face palm). If you're celiac this is definitely a NO GO!

I had pinto beans soup, salad, grilled pork chops with mashed potatoes and green beans, and ice cream for dessert. All for 19.99. Huge portions, had to take home a lot of it. So delicious and no reactions. Make sure you ask about gf menu BEFORE you are seated.
Their GF menu is not very clear, and the waitress was less than helpful. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. Definitely try the vegetable soup though.
I asked hostess if there were gf options before we were seated and the manager immediately handed me a copy of their allergens list. The waitress substituted vegetable soup for the corn chowder soup. I had the pot roast, mashed potatoes and glazed carrots. Glad we went for lunch as the portions even for lunch were too big. Meal was quite good.
Yes
Great experience here twice now. Knowledgeable server willing to substitute items. Had an allergen list to review. Yummy food. I’m sure a kitchen this busy is a bit risky. But I felt ok afterwards! Will be back!
Pot roast and mashed potatoes were DELICIOUS!! That in itself is enough to go if you like pot roast with brown gravy. There are no specialty GF items if that is what you are seeking, but the food I had was good and the atmosphere was homey and warm.
Restaurant had an allergens list which was confusing since it didn't exactly match up to the menu, but the wait staff was very knowledgeable and able to assist in choice.

My husband has celiac and got the pot roast with no issues. The waitress was very knowledgeable and helpful. She substituted vegetable soup for the corn chowder. He said it was one of the best gf meals he's had and would definitely go there again.
Yes
Good food, but very crowded, had to wait a long time for a seat. Our waitress was very nice and knowledgeable. A little pricey, but very large portions. I had the ribeye steak, salad, green beans, and baked potato. No issues. Would go there again.
Great experience.! We had grilled shrimp and pot roast with gravy and my husband has a nice rib eye steak. They were all knowledgable.
I got sick. The rest of my family liked there food, but I did not like the ham that I got. It smelled like wet dog and tasted horribly. I ordered off of the allergen list but still got glutened 😒. They do have really tasty vegetables.

The food was good, atmosphere was friendly but hectic (they claim to serve about 3,000 people a day and I believe it), location was interesting and in heart of tourist area. Our waitress was unfamiliar with Celiac disease but offered allergy list so my husband could order with confidence. She was nice and accommodating. He was very pleased with quality of his meal and variety of options. As a vegetarian I was pleased that I had more than one option. I wouldn't call this place outstanding for our restricted diets but in an area with limited options it is nice to have another restaurant to consider. I felt concerned about cross-contamination potential in this hyperactive environment, but he had no (skin / DH) reaction. We would go back. Expect a 30+ min wait during peak tourist season.
