We were truly disappointed with our entire experience at The Purple Cow (which really saddened us given all the positive reviews). The owner was pleasant at first, but she seemed more interested in having conversations with her local patrons than taking our order, interrupting us several times. We ordered a box of a dozen donuts with various cake/glaze/topping combinations. We were given an estimated wait time, which was expected, since the donuts are made fresh. We asked if we could run next door to the grocery store and come back to pick up the donuts and the owner said it was no problem - perfect! We came back and were informed that the owner didn’t have enough batter to make all dozen donuts, only about 10. She let us know that she stretched it out to 12 and said she figured that we “wouldn’t mind.” Unfortunately...we did mind - that meant that we had 12 donuts that started out normal size and rapidly progressed to approximately half-sized (see picture - bottom of pic vs top of pic). Despite this, she charged us full price for the dozen - $34 for the equivalence of 10 donuts. That’s okay, it’s basically just no discount for the dozen vs. buying 12 at full price, so no real harm. Besides, everything GF is more-expensive-yet-worth-it if it’s good, right? Sadly, despite the glazes and toppings being pretty flavorful, the cake of the donut was by far the worst that we’ve ever eaten. The donuts were incredibly hard and chewy, no matter how we ate them (room-temp, warmed in microwave, warmed slowly in microwave). We only attempted to eat 4 of the “12” before giving up and just throwing out the rest. We ended up buying Kinnikinnick frozen donuts at Kroger and enjoyed those throughout our trip instead, finding them to be far more fluffy and donut-like (and significantly cheaper).
