Beautiful upscale restaurant with outstsnding service and a romantic ambience in The Bricks area of downtown Kearney. Went here for a nice dinner out while in town for the Sandhill crane migration. GF items marked clearly on the menu and there are good options, although somewhat limited from the broader menu. Food was very good - we shared a gorgonzola and bacon burger on GF bread with GF onion rings (delicious dipping sauce!) and spinach-artichoke chicken on mushroom risotto. We also had the Spinach artichoke dip as a starter, which was served with GF tortilla chips. Entrée came with the soup and salad bar - all salad bar items are GF except croutons, which they kept down at one end. I usually don't eat from salad bars due to cross-contamination but this one was safe and I did not get sick. Service was incredible - waiter took our order by memory and knew what was GF. We were sorry the Mac and cheese was not offered with GF pasta - they looked delicious! They also had GF cheesecakes, but we were too full!

Symptomatic Celiac

Review

I stopped here on New Years and was super excited because I saw all the reviews, but had a completely different experience than most of the others. When my order was taken I informed the waitress that I am celiac and checked with her as to what was gluten free. She mentioned that most things on the menu were gluten free or could be made gluten free. The food tasted great and so we ordered dessert. I was super pumped because I heard their cheesecake was gluten free. I ordered the vanilla cheesecake and just asked if I could get a piece that did not have a vanilla wafer placed on it yet. The waitress smiled and said she would just take the wafer off. I thought she was joking because I had told her I was celiac, but when she came back I double checked with her and she said, “Ya, I just took the wafer off.” I asked her if I could actually get a different kind then because I couldn’t eat that piece because it touched the wafer. What she said next alarmed me and made me feel like I should have never ate there in the first place. She said “Oh well, it only touched it a little bit can’t you just eat it or scrape that part off. She did bring me a different piece after I explained why I couldn’t, but by then I was questioning if my meal was actually safely prepped. Sure enough the next day I felt the same arthritis like leg pain that I did when I was first diagnosed. Also, my stomach started to hurt, I got bloated, felt fatigued and got major brain fog. So while the food was good I can’t say I recommend. Unless you make sure to talk to someone in the kitchen or a manager.

I stopped here for lunch while visiting Kearney for a business meeting. I saw that this was rated high on the app as having gfree options, so I thought I’d check it out. I was a bit concerned when the menu didn’t say anything about gluten free options, so I asked the waiter. He must have been new because he had to go grab a manager. I was nervous thinking maybe this wasn’t a good choice after all. Boy, was I wrong! The manager came out and told me his wife and children have celiac, and he proceeded to explain that all of their soups are gluten free, everything on the salad bar (but the croutons) is gluten free, they have gluten free bread, buns, and pasta options. I opted for the salad bar which was wonderful, and they brought me a gluten free bun so I could make myself a sandwich. All of their cheesecakes were gluten free as well, so I took a piece to go and it was also wonderful! I have a Hashimoto’s, not celiac so I cannot speak to whether or not this would be safe for someone with celiac, but I would assume so given the manager/owner’s knowledge and willingness to go the extra mile. I would definitely eat here again!

Terrific for GF, very celiac friendly. Owner is friendly, knowledgeable, caring, and accommodating. Almost everything can be made GF including the onion rings; just talk to your server. Onion rings, for example, are fried in a pan instead of in the fryer with all the other stuff. Cross contamination is minimal if you talk to your server. Mussels are fantastic.

We were driving through the state and needed a place for dinner, both our kids (7and 9) are Celiacs. We called ahead and they were ready for us. The waitress was great, and they baked the French fries for them to avoid the fryers and gave us gluten free buns for the burgers. They did not have a gluten free menu, but said they could make anything gluten free - until they realized it was the kids who were gluten free. Then it was really just burger or soup and salad bar. But I really appreciated how they worked with us to get something we were happy with, and they gave the kids extra pickles after they asked 😄

Great ambiance and knowledgeable staff - rare combo. Waitress immediately knew what I was talking about when we said Celiac. Had delicious burger with side of veggies, soup and salad bar and two different kinds of Celiac-safe cheesecake! Shared fryer so no fries, onion rings, tortilla chips. Neat little spot in downtown Kearney for sit-down dining or take-out.

Owner has Celiac. Family too. Very accommodating.

Staff immediately knew what I meant when I said I had celiac. They gave me multiple options including: all soups, all cheesecakes, salads, gluten free onion rings, gluten free bread for any sandwich, and gluten free French fries. I had more options to eat than at other restaurants in the area. BTW, the homemade cheesecakes are amazing!

Owner was very friendly and super accommodating. He said that most anything can be altered or made gluten free. We asked if there was a dedicated fryer and while there isn't one, they will pan-fry anything you ask to avoid cross contamination. Burgers were amazing, and the cheesecake was good (all the cheesecakes have gf crusts). The pan fried items like onion rings and fries didn't get crispy and I didn't care for them, but appreciated the try. Our server we had to flag down when we needed her but it might have been due to being busy? I only saw two servers for about 9 tables. Overall, I would go back and try other things next time. I appreciated that the owner was so diligent to go in the back to talk to the cooks. He said his kitchen staff were solid and changes cutting boards and is careful with cross contamination. I also appreciated that the owner said he will avoid other allergens if necessary, too.

This place is amazing. Our waitress was the owners daughter and has celiac disease. Though they were busy, and the wait for food was long, it was so worth it. I haven't had a mushroom Swiss burger in years and it was so much better than any mushroom Swiss burger I have ever had... pre gluten free or after. The fact that the owners family is gluten free by necessity means they really know what they're talking about!

They don't have an actual "gluten free" menu but they can customize almost any item on the menu since they are a 'made from scratch' kitchen. I was told the owner's wife and daughters are gluten free so they are very accommodating. Their food is AMAZING!
