Unfortunately, I did have a gluten exposure at my last visit to the Electric Cheetah. The waitress was dismissive of my questions about cross contamination. She was visibly irritated at questions about menu items labeled gluten free but that had opportunities for common gluten exposure (fryers, oats as an ingredient, or cooked on a shared grill).
Even after changing my meal selection to a salad and salmon, I could tell before bed that evening it had contained gluten somewhere.
A phone call to speak with the Manager (Marnee) later in the week was very positive though. She took my concern seriously. She apologized for the glutening I get to experience for all this time after my meal. She asked thoughtful and knowledgeable questions about who my server was and what I ate so she could follow up. She also offered to send a gift card and personally over see the preparation of my next meal there.
Even though it was not a positive experience when I ate there, I appreciate the response from the manager and will likely try the Electric Cheetah again in the future.
My recommendation is to continue to be your own best and bravest advocate! Ask your questions even when the server rolls her eyes at you. Don’t be afraid to insist on changes even if it’s an inconvenience to the chef. And lean into that uncomfortable conversation with the manager when your experience is poor.
Here’s hoping that the next time I travel to Grand Rapids my visit to the Electric Cheetah has a better outcome.

Many gluten free and allergy friendly items on the menu. Our server shared our concerns and offered his recommendations, then double checked with the chef that my wife’s choice was gluten, dairy, and soy free. Informed us up front they did not have dedicated fryer. Brussel sprouts (Parmesan on the side) were very tasty. Chef tweaked their Healthy Hut dish for my wife and she was thrilled with the result, especially the blackened shrimp. Server recommended the Berghoff root beer, very good as well. The atmosphere and the story behind the name are fun. We would eat here again.

No dedicated fryer but they do have some options. I’ve eaten three three times, and each time it was just EH. Service was wonderful, though!

My waitress was very knowledgeable and suggested that I get the grilled cheese because the bread gets crumbly on any other sandwich. So yes, they have a gluten free bread substitute. I asked if they prepare the gluten free meals separate from the gluten-filled areas and she told me that it is all separate with no cross contamination. This was very good to hear with being a celiac!
Yes
Lots of options. Ordered 3 items. Jive turkey and Brussels sprouts were delicious. King George corn wasn’t good. Felt sick and couldn’t finish it.
Yes
We did not have a great experience here unfortunately. There was no gluten free menu as advertised. Kids got grilled cheese, and neither one came close to finishing. It tasted really burnt. I got mac and cheese, which was not good. Husband who is celiac got the not-my-brother sandwich and said it was "just ok." Our server seemed so unhappy to be there. The great thing was the root beers! We had a great time trying the different kinds!

our waitress was very knowledgeable about celiac and gluten free options. my girlfriend was able to get a really good burger cooked in her own skillet and she loved the gf bun. the monster cookies are amazing.
Yes
These 5 star reviews are odd because we found no gf buns and staff was unhelpful about gf. Frustrating, because this was a favorite before I went gluten-free.
Very disappointed overall. We arrived and there was a wait (no problem there!) we had been waiting about 10 minutes when another party of 2 came in (all the other parties waiting were parties of 4) within 5 minutes, they were seated by the hostess (no reservations) I went over to the hostess station and looked at the list, they were taken ahead of us. I questioned the hostess and only got a "sorry about that" and we waited another 20 minutes for a table. Once seated, I alerted the waitress of my gluten "allergy" and she said she would let the chefs know to avoid cross contamination. The food was "ok" not stellar by any means, but it was not terrible. My husband and I were visiting from out of town, without the toddler, and we were looking for a nice evening. By the time we made it to the hotel, I had horrid cramps and spent the rest of the evening in the bathroom. I had been cross contaminated. Eat here at your own risk!!! Apparently the warning I gave about my gluten issue was taken very lightly and I paid for it!!
Great place for those with gf allergies. One of my gf hubbies favorite restaurants... esp because of the gf buns.
GF menu and extremely accommodating chef and staff.
