Food is great and staff is knowledgeable about gluten free. They do serve bread to each table and do NOT have gluten free bread. They even did grilled shrimp instead of fried shrimp for the kids meal. Ate there twice on our visit to Galveston. Highly recommend. It’s is pricey though.

Similar to other experiences….. they offered me any of the fish on their menu. I ordered the snapper. My waiter did not seem to understand celiac but did understand cross- contamination and double checked with the chef. They do have a dedicated gf grill to cook the fish. It was pretty dry and poorly seasoned but I was able to eat with my family who absolutely loved their meals.

No gf menu, but waiter & staff were very knowledgeable about GF choices on menu, we’re able to guide our choices to safe food. Delicious meal! I’ll be dreaming about this place until I can come back!

Our waiter, Justin, spent a while walking through the kitchen’s cross contamination procedures to avoid gluten. He was even confident in each dish’s preparation down to the asparagus; when I ordered that as a side, he explained that mine looked a little different than the others, because the others were blanched in a chicken broth that contains gluten. Their kitchen is so huge that, while I don’t believe they have a dedicated gluten-free area, they have plenty of space to create one for each guest who requires it (clean grill, utensils, etc). Not only was my fish delicious, I walked out of there, completely confident about what I had eaten, and did not get sick at all. This is definitely the destination for gluten-free dining in Galveston.

They do not have a gluten-free menu. They instruct you ask your server about options. Our server, Richard, was extremely knowledgeable about the gluten-free options on the menu, including the sauces and seasonings for each dish. I had the catch of the day, which was blackened golden tile (a deep-sea fish) topped with Gulf crab meat. It was soooo good! My GF side options were asparagus or baked potato. Richard warned me that the asparagus was bland, and he was right!
One thing to note: your food may be brought out by someone other than your server. Mine came out with sauce on the side (in metal cups) that I didn't recognize from Richard's description of the dish, so to be safe, I didn't use it. (The fish was perfect the way it came anyway.)
Gaidos is a Galveston tradition, opening in 1911. They are right on the Seawall, and if you're lucky, you'll get a seat by the window like we did.

I’m not celiac but Miguel (waiter) handled 2 different food allergies well. Grilled shrimp for me (gf) w rice & asparagus. Lump crab w oil -not butter for dairy free son. Get oil & Lemon to flavor it all. Great service!
Great food and service 👍 the view was worth the price of the bill and that it was gf was great

This place was amazing! My daughter has Celiac and once I spoke with the host and waitress (who was amazing!) completely calmed my fears that they could accommodate her. They did amazing! Will definitely be back!
I ordered the salmon plate gluten free. The plate came with salmon, white rice and asparagus (my only side option) all with absolutely no seasoning on it. Not even salt or pepper. $20 for an awful, bland plate of food. I sent it back and the plate was not charged. I was told that's how the "chef" interpreted gluten free. The waitress apologized but also blamed me for saying everything looked fine before I tasted it.

Not only did they gluten two plates, we were told no substitutions after they messed up my wife's plate. Not advisable.

Terrible experience here. Waiter tried, but did not understand what gluten free was. Told me I could not have an item because there was parsley on it. After multiple trips to tell us the kitchen was informed and preparing our order, my grilled shrimp came out on a large piece of French bread (non-gf)!! Sent back, but I was nervous at that point to eat it.
We are here two days in a row. They were happy to check with the chef about what would be safe.

Ask for Santini as your server and he will take care of you. He has celiac, so he understands. Old family restaurant, fabulous fresh seafood- what more could a seafood lover want. I had the scallops, which were so good!
