Son loves the GF bread served with other breads before the meal. He said, "it's amazing!" Waiter VERY knowledgeable of ingredients, and asked questions about other food allergies.
Helpful with avoiding cross contamination and involving chefs/managers if you bring up concerns to the server!
Love love love!!! Lots of great options, me and my mom swear by this place. I am allergic to dairy and gluten so eating out at a place I can enjoy safely can be fairly daunting. I let them know and they told me if they could do certain dishes. Gluten free dishes are clearly marked with a little leaf. I cannot eat the fried foods as the batter has dairy, but i can appreciate gluten free fried food even if I can't eat it! I had the snapper verde with fries and spinach and it was AMAZING. Food is pricey so be mindful, but if you can swing it then it is very worth it!
Tons of GF options (even rolls beforehand!), the staff was friendly and accommodating, and the manager even brought out our food and made sure everything was fine. We'll definitely be back!
Wow!! That's all I have to say. It is by far the best seafood I have ever had. I actually over ate, I liked it that much!!!!! The service was amazing our waiters were friendly and the manager brought out our gf food. What a meal by far the best gluten free food in Washington D.C. GF dinner so far!!!🍤With gluten free fried shrimp. Yum Yum!!!!🍽🍤🍤Lots of options.
Great seafood. GF knowledgable and genuine concern. Had many options and the food was delivered by the manager to ensure allergy compliance. Nice atmosphere too. Have a drink at the bar before dining.
Outstanding food and service. My waitress asked if I had any allergies right after we were seated and wrote down celiac-gluten allergy. She alerted the chef and other waitstaff. I was offered GF rolls which were delicious and all of my food was delivered by the manager as a precaution. I had an outstanding experience and will be back (hopefully soon)! Note: The restaurant has a large amount of GF items that sound delicious. I had the baked haddock and it was outstanding. Portion sizes are off the charts and well worth the price.
I have missed fried fish! Legal Seafood claims gluten free breading and dedicated fryers. They have GF dinner rolls that were quite good. Our waiter was knowledgeable and explained that the manager would deliver my meal to the table. He said that is their policy when there are food allergies so the manager can verify that the food was prepared correctly. I wish this restaurant was near my home.
The best gluten-free food ever. My new favorite restaurant on this planet. Staff is very responsive and respectful. This restaurant is very clean.
Gluten free fish and chips ! Yes it's true! I have missed this delicious treat! Tastes great with a gluten free beer too! Service was excellent
Great place! All flour used in the fryer is gluten free - so all fried food is safe! I had the fried fish and chips which came with onion straws and French fries. All delicious and no side effects! Also offer a few gluten free desserts.
Excellent! ! Very knowledgeable and caring staff. They have dedicated fryers so you can have fried fish here and fries but the onion straws are amazing! All of it was light and crispy. They also serve you gf bread rolls before your meal so you aren't left out watching non celiacs enjoy their bread. The portions are large too and the price is good. I would definitely go back and highly recommend to anyone needing a gf diet.
Lots of gluten-free options. There was a little miscommunication between my waiter and the chef, but the manager went out of his way to make it right for me. Gluten-free protocols are clearly in place. I visited in Nov. 2015. Read my full review over on the blog: http://www.eatingoutwithout.com/2015/11/legal-sea-foods-review.html
Delicious. The boys loved the gluten free rolls and it was a novelty to be able to eat the bread!
My son has celiac disease, we were extremely impressed with the staff's knowledge and handling of food. GF food was bought out separately by another waiter, each time it was placed in front of my son it was identified as gluten free. He was able to get gluten free dinner rolls, which were warm and delicious. Had option of anything fried since they use a gf breading and separate fryer. This is a rare treat for him. He ordered fired clams and enjoyed!
I can't say enough about this place! Gf rolls were amazing. Fish and chips were the best I have ever eaten. They even have onion rings. Waiter was excellent and very knowledgable.
Absolutely awesome! Just came back second day in a row, highly recommended!
The first time I've had fish n chips or onion rings since getting diagnosed years ago. So yummy! Staff are very knowledgable and like others who reviewed, the manager carried out my plate separately. The gluten free rolls were also delicious. Highly recommend :)
What a wonderful GF DF experience. My son had clams and shrimp and I had the platter where everything is fried in their dedicated fryers (fish, scallops, calamari, fries, etc.). What a treat! Eating fried food that is GF and DF in a restaurant is almost unheard of. They were very careful and really understood cross-contamination. Liked how they brought our plates out separate too. Delicious!!
How great is it to be able to eat gluten-free, fried food without cross-contamination? I went for my birthday and it couldn't have been better. I had coconut shrimp and fries. Heavenly! The gluten-free rolls were also great. Entire staff was knowledgeable, all the way up to the manager who brought us our food and checked with us after the meal.
Great menu, super friendly and accommodating, highly recommended. As a person with Celiac I felt safe dining here. They are really on top of everything. And the gluten free clam chowder is great.
Fantastic service, great atmosphere, and wonderful food! GF dinner rolls were the best I've had! Many menu choices, and they even had a dedicated gf fryer. The manager served each of my courses, confirming my allergens each time he put something down on the table. We will definitely be back!
Very celiac-friendly! Huge GF selection (marked on the menu) with GF rolls and even a dedicated GF fryer. We were very impressed!
Excellent waiters!! Very sensitive! Most of menu is marked gluten free and they brought me gluten free bread! They also have separate fryer! The food is wonderful and atmosphere is great!! A must go to if you are gluten free in DC!!
While they were very accommodating of both our dairy and gluten intolerances, the food was overpriced for what we got and the taste was average. It was really great to have fried calamari and fried shrimp since I never get those, but the taste was pretty dry. They also did not mention the dinner rolls-- that would have really made my hubby happy to have. All in all, safe eating but I won't be returning.
We enjoyed several appetizers, freshly baked gf dinner rolls, a delicious meal, and even dessert. The rolls and desserts weren't listed on their celiac menu, so I'm glad our server mentioned them.... can't remember the last time I got dinner rolls out! The food was delicious and service was great. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip.
My family was so excited to eat fried seafood out. They also served fresh from the oven gf dinner rolls that were a hit. I have additional food intolerances and they were accommodating of those as well. We tried many places in DC this week on vacation and this was the best place for me!
One of the best gf menus I have seen. Grilled seafood and lava cake dessert was great. Also, the wine ladder was fun for $10. My experience was consistent with other 5 star ratings .
they have a celiac menu listing all the g free options and wait staff were all very aware. I ordered the seafood platter that included calamari, whitefish, scallops and French fries. it was all deep fat fried and way over any person's recommended caloric intake for the day, but since I NEVER get the option for these things normally, I went for it. yum, yum, yum! it was so worth it. it comes with tartar sauce but I also asked for cocktail sauce to dip it in. good thing our vacation including lots of walking ;-) I disagree with the $$$ rating, it was very affordable, especially for the amount of food!
AMAZING! Best gluten free restaurant I have ever been too, they were very knowledgable. The sous chef brought me my food personally and said he took the extra precautions necessary and if I needed anything to ask for him personally. I was VERY impressed with their and their food! Highly recommended for a gluten free option!!
Great gf fried shrimp and gf bread, if you ask.
the best dining experience I have ever had...fried calamari amazing chocolate mousse and everything was all taken out by a manager! also gluten free rolls!
The GF menu was wonderful, many options for appetizers, sides and dinner. My wood grilled shrimp were good but if i based this review on my husbands GF fried clams would've earned it 5 stars! Wait staff was knowledgable, no bread and crazy on a Sunday night.... But I felt safe and that's all that matters!
Awesome! Great GF menu! Had GF dinner rolls and took extra nut/dairy allergies very seriously! Food was delicious.
Gluten free rolls are great!
Thank god for legals! No one has tried harder to push the gluten free/celiac cause than these guys. While some say it taste like chain food I think they have managed to stay ahead of other chains and their stale menus or bland food. Legals uses GF ingredients and fryers for all of their fried food and is very careful with cross contamination. Where else can you get fried fish, bread and clam chowder that is GF!? I would love it if they had lobster rolls with GF bread or hot dog bun, others have mastered this and it wouldn't take much (yes they will make with their GF rolls but its just not the same). Please don't criticize Legals even if you don't love the food because they have done so much to advance GF/Celiac causes and it's not just for the diet fad, they have real allergic sufferers in mind.
Happy with my visit. I had a crabmeat sandwich (because it was $10 cheaper than a lobster sandwich). It came on a soft, warm, flaky GF bun. I'm told the fries are safe, but I think they serve some other breaded and fried things. Regular menu is clearly marked with things that are or can be made GF. Much appreciated! Many options. Sandwiches are reasonably priced . (Most are $15-25). Some reviewer said the whole kitchen is GF. That's not true.
Menu lists gf sandwiches without any reference to no gluten free buns or rolls. So basically it's a pile of food on a plate. The manager, Juan, was cordial in telling us we should have known. Again, they are sold as gluten free Sandwiches but the menu says nothing about no gluten free bread or rolls for the sandwich to come on. What a shitty experience, LS used to be outstanding with gf.
LSF was recommended on a travel Website and was a quick 2 min walk from the Hilton. The server, Meredith, was bright and bubbly, and very passionate about the food and restaurant, especially the Gluten-Free options. On her recommendation I ordered the GF Fish and Chips and their GF beer. Being from NZ, I am always a starter for good F&C. Their attention to the many GF options and to food handling is outstanding. F&C looked great. But lacked flavour (needed salt and 'something' in the batter). Onion straws were dry. Chips the stringy McDonald type and a bit cool. GF beer was great. I will go back, but probably opt for the Snapper, which looked great at next table.
Was really wowed by attention to detail on cross contamination. Server asked if the grill was ok or if I needed a clean skillet. Despite being quite busy, the manager was alerted and delivered my meal personally. Delicious food and great cocktail menu.
Gluten free options AMAZING! I had fried fish and chips too with fried onion strings and I almost cried! It was really good even for my non gf husband. He said the batter was perfect. 👍🏻. The salad was fresh and tasty and the GM brought over hot gluten free rolls with butter which were the best gf rolls I've ever had. Still a little drier than regular, but with butter on the top you barely notice. He explained that from their point of view many are trying to avoid gluten and desire more healthy eating, so they are doing their best to meet the need. The gf options on the menu were extensive. Each item that could be made gf had a little icon beside it making it very easy to scan the options. My husband said the clam chowder was really good too. The fish and chips were $20 which is a bit high, but when I tasted it, it was amazing. The price might limit me from visiting as often as I'd like, but I'll be back!
The fried items marked GF on the menu are cooked in a shared fryer. Our server made us aware of this prior to our order, so we were able to avoid these items. I wish they would mark this on the menu. Beyond this issue, my experiences at the Legal Test Kitchen in South Boston have been overwhelmingly positive. The servers are very knowledgeable, the restaurant offers good gluten free rolls, and GF items are delivered separately to the table by the manager. Lots of good menu options.
This is the only place in the Metrowest area that I know that has gluten free baked stuffed lobster and it is truly delicious!! Gluten free calamari is awesome and the sides available are excellent. This may be pricey to some but it's worth every dime if you want to really enjoy a tasty gluten free meal.
A very nice experience. The newly remodeled interior & some interesting additions to the gluten free options makes it worth another visit. Now the regular menu is marked with an icon to help you make selections.
This is the Oysteria location. The staff was awesome and extremely knowledgeable about gluten allergies. Their fryers are completely gluten free and many of their non-fried menu items are as well. They would get 5 stars from me if my pizza crust was cooked all the way. That was the only problem here. Loved the staff, the atmosphere, and the food.
I have a toddler with Celiac's. When I asked our waitress if items on the children's menu could be made gluten free she looked at me as if I had 2 heads. She then huffed off to go check with the kitchen. I ended up ordering mashed potatoes with the meal and she rolled her eyes at me and asked if mashed potatoes were gluten free. I told her they should be since it's usually potatoes, milk and butter. They did bring my son out a gluten free roll and the manager brought us my son's plate and checked in with us a couple times to make sure my son liked the meal. If not for the rude waitress it would have been an enjoyable dining experience.
Saturday night (September 3, 2016) we were seated at the second floor for our daughters engagement party. I have celiac disease, (autoimmune disease to gluten) I cannot eat out often because of cross contamination issues in kitchens of restaurants. I called a few days before the event and spoke to Randy the manager. He assured me he could provide me with a safe meal. I placed our order with him over the phone. When we arrived, Randy and our waiter (can't remember his name) could not have been more accommodating. They met with me prior to taking orders, reviewed everything, brought my food and drinks out separately, reassuring me throughout the evening. And they did it discreetly as none of the other guests were aware. I can not tell you how grateful I am for having this experience and that Randy went above and beyond to make my food safe. Right down to dessert! You really never know until after an hour of eating if everything has gone safely, but yes it did. To be able to enjoy my daughter and future son inlaws engagement gathering, was the biggest gift Legal Harborside Dining could have given us. Thank you Randy for all that you did. I appreciate it more than you ever know. Sincerely Maria Newman
I have gotten sick here twice. The first time, I'm not sure what happened. The second time, they used the spicy breading instead of the gluten free one. Both times were during slow times of day. The afternoon wait staff seem disinterested. I have never had a problem with the one in short hills even though they are much busier.
A rich GF menu amd the waitress seemed very familiar with gluten issues. She was supportive when when we asked for a glove change. She took it upon herself to offer our kids GF rolls which my son enjoyed a great deal. They were willing to make items on the kids menu from scratch for the kids also. The manager delivered the GF dishes. Great experience.
Brought my kids (both have celiac) to Legal Seafoods for lunch today. They were able to make the fish sticks and the chicken tenders from the kids menu completely gluten-free and safe from cross-contamination for my kids to enjoy. French fries were also gluten-free and in a dedicated fryer so they were safe. After a few bites, both my kids jumped up in the booth and shouted we "love it here"! So excited to finally find a local place our entire family can enjoy.
Since 2005, Legal Seafoods has been celiac friendly as they don't use flour at all. Both of our young kids have Celiac and eating at Legals was such a treat. All their seafood, french fries, chicken fingers, etc are safely gluten free! They also serve GF rolls which were delicious. No need to worry about cross contamination here. The food was all delicious, as always! Now we just need a Legals in CT!
As others note, thus location is NOT celiac friendly, although the current menu notes some fried foods as GF our waiter pointed out the coating is GF BUT only one fryer! You can get GF rolls and the grilled seafood, but disappointing when you had heart set on fried calamari. Our waiter was great and very accommodating so I give 3 stars for that but if in Seaport go to regular Legals across the street
We were at the World of Coca Cola (Centennial Park and Acquarium) so lucky to find this good fish restaurant so close. We were told that the manger is very aknowledge with GF and being Celiac, so every plate will be double checked before being served. I decided to trust them and let my daughter have fish and chips. They brought her some GF rolls which she enjoyed hawith butter. For some reason she didn't like F&C, but didn't get sick, so I think it was only her personal taste.
I have craved fried seafood since I was diagnosed with celiac disease last year. I was so excited to see that they offered gluten free battered seafood and that they take fantastic safety precautions against cross contamination. The food was delicious, they even had gluten free rolls and croutons. It may be pricey but it was totally worth it!
Hi I'm Morgan and like most of you I have celiac. Not to long ago we went to Legal Sea Foods for a family event. The hostess said that they were 100% gluten free and that I could even get fish and chips! I was thrilled! When everyone ordered I assured our waiter that I had a severe gluten allergy and ordered the fish and chips. They were delicious! Until on the car ride home we had to stop for you know what! I was up sick all night! When I was up to the task and called the restaurant. The manager was truly very upset about it and gave us a 75 dollar gift certificate, but I don't think I will be going back anytime soon!
My favorite chain on the East Coast. Fabulous fresh seafood, dedicated fryer, the only place I know of for gfree deep fried calamari, shrimp, fish, etc. Salads are wonderful variegated fresh greens, not wilted iceberg business. Fish at this location was the best ever!
