The chef and servers are pretty knowledgeable about celiac and sensitivity to gluten cross contamination. The food was excellent and had no symptoms after eating there.

10/10. I ate at Mama’s Fish House within weeks of my diagnosis and it’s the safest I’ve ever felt eating out. The waiter knew from the reservation I had a severe gluten allergy and explained how they handle the kitchen, reviewed the menu in unbelievable detail, and brought several things for me from the chef. The items are not marked on the menu, but there were only a handful of things that could not be made GF. They even made a special desert for me that I didn’t ask for. I can’t wait to go back!

We made note of gluten-free on our reservation. When we arrived the hostess confirmed the “food allergy”, and the server mentioned it immediately upon coming to our table. Our family member who has celiac is 10yo, so the server went through all of his options. There were a few options on their kids menu, but my son really wanted a steak. He and I split the filet and root veggies. They were delicious.

The non-GF members of our party were served a starter soup. It had gluten, so they brought my son a cucumber/carrot “relish”. He didn’t like it, but I though it was delicious.

We celebrated my husband’s birthday, and the complimentary dessert they brought to the table was a delicious GF mousse-type treat.

They don’t have a gf menu, however the servers/bartender really know the menu and ingredients. Every employee starts “at the bottom”—busser than food runner etc. and it can take years to be in a customer facing position. I think it helps them learn the menus etc. we sat at bar and the bartender wrote down the allergies, suggested menu items then double checked with the kitchen. Food was excellent.

Menu changes daily but our server was very knowledgeable. Since I put our allergies in our reservation, he came to the table ready to brief us on what we could eat / what could be modified. He even let us know which cocktails could be made safely. They use clean utensils etc. plates came marked with a purple flower to identify GF. Solid dessert options as well for celiac. Amazing food & experience.

Best meal of the whole trip. I had mahi mahi curry. It is the type of restaurant that understands GF and can modify anything as needed. Felt very safe. It was our most expensive meal of the trip by far though.

Excellent!! Staff is very knowledgeable about the whole menu and it changes daily. They don't take any chances, anyone that brought food to the table knew my husband had celiac so they always made sure who was getting that dish. I can't said enough good things about this restaurant. Only bad thing, it's so good that you have to make reservations at least 4-6 months out.

Mama’s … Well, it’s hard to know where to start about how good the food is. "World class" says it, I think. More relevant to this app, my wife and I (celiac) found their staff to be meticulously knowledgeable about which items contain gluten, which were modifiable, and which were off-limits. They knew which cocktails contained no gluten as well, which was great since their cocktails are delicious. Every plate that came out had a tropical flower on it, indicating that it had been made gluten-free. In all categories, Mama’s get absolute top marks.

Went for an anniversary dinner while vacationing on Maui and was happy that I did. I had the grilled octopus appetizer, the curried Mahi and the crembrule. Everything was fantastic and they put an orchid on every GF plate and repeated that it was GF. The views were stunning.

Make your reservation at least 6 months out or you may not get in.

This is one of my favorite places, it’s a magical setting that can only be experienced & the food is always amazing. Last night I did get glutened so sending a warning out to my fellow Celiacs. I believe it was the tomato bisque soup shot they brought after the appetizer between courses because I know everything else I ate was gf. Although they set it down saying it was GF I should have asked again. They have lots of options for gf & the food really is incredible. I was so sad I left with an upset stomach after all that good food, and in pain for hours later. We (Celiacs) always eat out with a risk no matter where you go, so just ask and ask and ask again… I let my guard down. Overall, Maui is amazing for GF options!

Perhaps the best meal I’ve ever had, most definitely as a Celiac (9 years). Started with Arugula Salad, shared the Poke made with Tamari and subbed lettuce wraps (I am not a raw fish fan but; when in Rome! It was delicious and so fresh!!) my main entree was the seared scallops and an add on of 2 prawns. The scallops were impeccably cooked with a delicious tomato cream sauce. The mushroom risotto was not gf (I was bummed about that) but they subbed plain rice and then offered coconut rice. The coconut rice paired better with that dish so I’d recommend that. The prawns had their own cream sauce with Tahitian vanilla and were divine! The Mai Tai’s were so good!! As for dessert, we got the passion fruit creme brûlée which was very good and creamy with the nice crunchy sugar top shell. Is it pricy….yes. Is it worth it for people who would appreciate culinary and local delicacies 100%! Would we go back 100%!!!

AMAZING! The overall food, service, and experience (location, view, and ambiance) was 10/10. Our waiter went through the entire menu very thoroughly stating which dishes were naturally gluten-free, had gluten but could be adjusted, or skip entirely because of the gluten. He insured the kitchen would take extra precautions in the kitchen to prevent cross-contamination. When each menu item arrived at the table (each time with a different server), they all said “Aloha, this is gluten free with no cross contamination.” I feel very confident every precaution was taken because our waiter was very understanding and friendly.

So good! I had the fish curry!!! I was super undecided but can no longer recall the competition (reviewing from the mainland now that I have some time and better data… the island has lots of holes for cell phones).

We also had dessert and it was great flan. And the brought me a small amuse du buche at the beginning of the meal which was pickles but I liked them (kim chi style).

Very very very good meal. They got us a window seat for my husband’s birthday.

Our waiter was amazing—great run down of the menu (no GF menu). The soup they brought to the table had gluten in it so they served me some pickles that were really good! Dinner was incredible. I had the Ono for dinner and the passion fruit creme brûlée (the only GF dessert option). The thing that disappointed me was that they served me a biscotti with my coffee

When I made our reservation on the phone, I mentioned that I was a vegetarian and gluten free. When our waiter introduced himself, he mentioned both of my dietary restrictions and proceeded to point out which items would be safe for me to eat and drink. There were no vegetarian entrees listed on the menu, but the waiter described two gluten free tofu dishes for me to choose from. I went with the banana curry, which was amazing. When they brought out the bisque and bread for my husband, they brought me a small appetizer of pickled cucumbers and carrots, which was delicious! We also ate the mushroom appetizer and lilikoi creme brulee for dessert. Both were excellent! Every time they set anything down in front of me, they reiterated that it was gluten free. I love when restaurants do this as it saves me the step of double-checking! On the whole, we were very impressed with the food and the service!

Absolutely divine! Worth the cost. The penang curry was the best I've had in my life due to the amazing ingredients (mahi mahi, hearts of palm, snow peas, etc.) and the excellent toppings (mango chutney is incredible with the fish!). We watched wind surfers from the shore after lunch.

First time in Maui. Went with some friends to celebrate their anniversary. The atmosphere is great very pretty right on the water. Although they don't have a specific GF menu. The waiter was very knowledgeable of the whole menu and gave excellent suggestions for not only GF for me but the rest of the table as well. I was given fresh pineapple instead of bread and a mushroom bisque my group really enjoyed. I ordered the Ono, Mahi Mahi and Ahi Sautéed in Panang Curry and Coconut Milk with Vegetables. My friend just happened to taste a bit of the sauce and noticed a peanut taste. I also have a peanut allergy but since I was so focused on the GF I forgot to ask and it wasn't listed on menu. They immediately took it and remade the dish with a banana curry. And it was delicious. For dessert there was only a couple GF options. I highly recommend the Lilikoi creme brûlée. It was fabulous!!!! All in all a very nice evening and a great meal for a special occasion. Make reservations well in advance and save up as it is pricey but worth it.

The view is amazing as was the service and food. I'm a sensitive celiac and I had no reaction after having a delicious lunch here. I had the vanilla basted prawns which were served with a Jasmin rice medley and fresh vegetables. These prawns were the best I've ever had. It's a pricey place (lunch for 2 with 2 entrees, 2 desserts, and 1 mixed drink) was @ $175 (before tip) worth it! it's simply amazing.

It's one of the most popular restaurants on the island for a reason! Consistently excellent food, even as it becomes more and more of a tourist destination each year. There were more choices for GF than I remembered--most of the fish can be modified, and I had baked Tahitian prawns made with vanilla and a side of Kalua wild boar. Decadent and delicious!

I wouldn't go as far as to say they are celiac friendly (no GF menu, no dedicated friers, waiters knowledge is slightly more hesitant than other places) but they definitely have excellent, safe GF options that will keep you happy.

My wife's favorite meal on Maui. Very knowledgeable about GF/Celiac. While the choices were somewhat limited, they were plenty, so long as you realize that you are going to a fish house (the menu isn't that large to start with). Very attentive staff. Keep in mind this is one of the most popular restaurants on Open Table in the entire US, so make your reservations early! I looked a week in advance (in Sept!), and had the option of 3:00PM or 3:44PM for dinner!! Strongly recommend the ceviche. :)

This was an amazing meal. No gf menu, but the waiter was so helpful walking us through the menu for gf options. They just skipped our table together for bread/sample of a bisque (which they gave to all other tables), which bummed me out a bit because I think my husband would have enjoyed some bread and I was looking forward to this fabled fruit!
