we found the staff to be very knowledgeable and friendly. the pizza crust they use is Still Riding and i found it to be pretty good the second best pizza i have had in the 10 years i have been dealing with gluten freeness. would reccommend the Mellow Mushroom.

They have a separate gluten free pizza section of the menu with about 6 different pizza options, or create your own from a list. The staff was nice but we waited a long time to be served though it wasn't crowded. They gave us a discount when we mentioned waiting 45 plus minutes after ordering to get our food. My daughter with a wheat allergy enjoyed being able to have pizza. The menu says the gluten free pizza is all cooked separately.

People with me eating the regular crust pizza raved about how good it is. The gluten-free pizza I ordered was terrible. It's by far the worst GF pizza I've ever tried. The crust dissolved into a gritty grainy mush in my mouth—I stopped eating it. Despite explaining that I didn't care for the pizza, the waitress and my table mates encouraged me to take the pizza home, for someone else to eat. (It was expensive, after all.) Later that night and the next day 2 other people tried one bite and spit it out into the garbage. It was really awful. If you are eating GF and end up here with friends able to eat the amazing regular crust pizza, stick with the salad. Those are good. You're going to be jealous watching them eat that regular pizza though.

The gluten-free crust is just ok. For whatever reason, they put much less sauce on the gf pizza than regular. I ordered Daiya cheese due to dairy intolerance, and it was incredibly scant. This chain does seem to have a good handle on cross-contamination, and there are quite a few gf toppings to choose from.

Mellow is great for diners with gluten intolerance, but maybe not for celiacs. I wouldn't order a salad because I've watched the cook make a large sandwich and reach into all of the salad ingredients without changing his gloves. After doing that multiple times a day, I'm sure the ingredients are quite contaminated. Too bad.

The first time I ordered the pizza it was ok. On the bland side. The next time I went back it was a Friday night and we waited 30 min to be seated and 40 for food and that's when the server informed us that they had burned my pizza and were making another one. I had my 2 youngest kids with me and they were tired and hungry by that time. The pizza finally came and half of it was cooked fine and the other was barely warm and not cooked well. The manager said their gf dough is frozen and its hard to cook. We didn't have to pay for it. I will not be going back

Horrible. Waiter told my husband that he thought the soups were all GF. Then he went and checked after we asked him to and he said he could not guarantee it because of manufacturing but that they contained no gluten ingredients. My husband ordered the mushroom soup, took one bite and could tell there was wheat in it. I asked them to give me a list of the ingredients and sure enough, the label said in bold letters "Contains Wheat". When I calmly tried to explain to the waiter what a serious issue this is for someone with celiac, he began to get defensive and blamed us for the situation. Luckily the manager overheard our conversation, apologized and did not charge us for our meal. Very frustrating, not looking forward to my husband getting sick from this :(

The pizza really wasn't bad--it's just that it's pre-cooked, so you'll usually either get undercooked toppings or an overcooked crust. The crust was both dry and sponge-y; paired with barely-melted cheese, very little sauce, and warm toppings (we got the Supreme, I think), it was not very tasty. I had it again at work a little while later. This time I requested the one with the pesto swirl; I think it's called Cosmic Karma? Not sure, but it was much tastier. The strong flavor of the pesto helped mask the blandness of the crust, and it helped that I wasn't missing HOT tomato sauce. It's worth trying.

i've always been a fan of their pizza and the GF one is good. i think they also have GF beer. however, be warned- the 12" GF pizza is $18, at least in Durham. i don't think it used to be that pricey and the GF pizza at other places like Brixx and Lilly's is cheaper, i think. mellow mushroom is safe and good quality but be prepared to spend a lot.

They have a great gluten free crust as well as daiya cheese for dairy free consumers like me. They're menu also speaks extensively about the steps that they take to keep the gluten free ingredients uncontaminated. A little gem amongst an otherwise vegetarian unfriendly town.

Tried the GF pizza here yesterday and really liked it! The crust is thin but not crunchy like a lot.of thin crust pizzas can be. It actually tasted really good! Very different from the normal crust but very flavorful. Even my non-GF bf liked it! Be careful though, not all toppings are GF... we ordered a pie w steak and the waiter was awesome enough to double check on his own and discovered that the steak was not GF. Boy was I grateful! Will definitely go back.

If you let the greeter and/or server know you have celiac, your table should be wiped down and your food will come on distinct plates. They're done a good job training their folks, it seems. The pizza crust is really good, though it's a shame it doesn't come in more than one size.

Our waiter was very helpful and assured my pizza would not be cross contaminated. It might have been the best gf pizza I've ever had, and definitely the coolest looking. I had trouble picking out which pizza I wanted because there were so many to choose from- I don't recall the name but I chose the one with Roma tomatoes, spinach, feta cheese, and the green pesto sauce that they decorated in a swirl on top! So cool!

Delicious gluten-free crust. They provide only one size of the GF pizza, but it's 12 inches, so it's big enough to share or have plenty left over. The menu provides the ingredients of the crust, so if you have other food sensitivities you can check. Lots of interesting toppings.

Great experience! The downtown Raleigh Mellow Mushroom uses a separate container (with a lid) for gf silverware and plates and even salt + pepper shakers. They asked if it was a diet preference or food allergy. There is an extra 15 minute process they go through in the back to ensure it is gluten free and no cross contamination. Worth waiting (not too long.) The pizza was delicious! Crust was good. They even let us do half and half of two different pizzas. Gluten free beer too. Great experience!!

Pretty good. Ask for GF menu. Tried the house meaty pizza, a pesto pizza, and drank a Woodchuck beer (draft!), and really enjoyed all of it. Pizza crust is mostly bean flour and sort of had a fluffy cornbread texture. I docked them just 1 star for flavor because I didn't like their tomato sauce, but everything else was great.

I think their toppings are great. However, they use Still Riding crust and it is pretty bad. It doesn't take long for the crust to start getting soggy. Plus, I do not like the taste of the crust. I also tried a Mellow Mushroom in Pensacola, FL and had the same results. Th server asked me if I wanted a box to take what was left with me. When I said, "NO.", He said that very few did. I usually just scrape the topping off the crust & eat that.

As a certified food safety professional that happens to be gluten free, I have a hard time finding pizza that I can trust. I have spoken with people in the stores and at a corporate level with Mellow Mushroom and find them to be knowledgeable and careful with GF customers. They use GF cornmeal rather than wheat flour for dusting and they have a system in place to reduce the risk of cross-contamination when making a GF pizza. Mellow Mushroom is tasty, reasonably priced and safe for the Celiac to eat. I love it.

I loved Mellow Mushroom. My boyfriend has Celiacs' and had a large, House Special pizza on his own, he LOVED it. It was the first time in 7 years he had attempted to try gluten free pizza and literally was in heaven. I tried it myself and the bread was moist and very tasteful. My chicken calzone was pretty awesome too!

Lots of room for improvement! The crust was crisp and good. The toppings defeated it --all dumped in the middle (with 2" bare around the outside edge) and overcooked until dried out. Skimpy on some ingredients, like cheese, and I couldn't even see or taste the artichokes. While the crust's flavor was okay, the toppings were overpowered with olive oil/olive flavor. I also paid alot for it! I think I'll get frozen next time I want pizza.

Service was good & fast for as busy as they were. GF pizza was really good. My only complaint was the price. $54 (not including tip) for a GF pizza, a LG Hawaiian pizza & 5 sodas is a bit much. We won't be eatting here often because of that.
