Update 2022: They no longer offer to change gloves, use separate knives or cutting boards or cut from fish that has not been cut into yet. A casualty of the pandemic, cost cutting measures, I guess. I even asked if I was the first person in the door could they work with me and they said no. Yet all there sauces are gluten free. Such a shame, our group could spend $100 easy. I will miss their sushi
The sushi is delicious and the staff is knowledgeable. The staff will also double check orders with the manager to make sure everything ordered is gluten free. The also will bring out gluten free soy sauce.
My complaints: they no longer have gluten free tempura & they now charge a $10.00 fee for ordering gluten free for people with Celiac. This is in addition to up charges for ordering dishes that have imitation crab and substituting real crab. I love the sushi but don’t frequent this restaurant as much as I used to due to the charge. PF Chang’s charges more for a gluten free dish than it’s counterpart, so it’s kind of the same, only Mio Sushi charged up front.

They no longer switch out the boards to prevent cross contamination. But the staff was very helpful with picking the best rolls for gluten allergies and they were easily able to switch out for real crab (about $2 upgrade per roll). The food tasted amazing, and I would highly recommend the sushi pizza and volcano roll. Lots of good options for dairy free.

I love eating here and know that the staff takes all steps to make sure my food allergies are accommodated. Gluten free soy sauce and spicy mayo too! The staff is always very friendly to my one year old son as well.

I’ve safely eaten here several times, and they have real crab as an option to make most rolls gf if they aren’t already! They also have tamari and their house sauce is gluten free. Give the server a heads up if you’re celiac and enjoy some yummy sushi!

I was able to eat the hot food, but they said they were not able to use clean cutting boards or knives with the sushi, which felt ridiculous.

Great options and have tamari. Staff is very knowledgeable and will always confirm if something is gf or recommend a gf alternative. If asked, they will use a new prep board for $10 but I've never needed it.

I’ve never had to pay extra for gluten free. They offer tamari, careful gluten free prep, and are super accommodating if you just ask. So nice to have good gluten feee sushi.
Not impressed. Had to pay $10 extra to get celiac sushi.
Yes
if you're looking for fresh sushi, keep looking. the rice was stale, and the veggies had almost no flavor. we waited to be seated (10 mins), waited to ask questions (15 minutes), waited to order (10 minutes), and then waited for the food (30 minutes), and that was on a Wednesday night. oh, and the $10 upcharge for safe prep applies to ANY time they're busy, not just the weekends.
2 stars because they DO have gf options, otherwise would rate this place 1 star.
Anthony is the only server with knowledge about gf options. another waitress answered my questions in the beginning, and it turned out I could order less than half of what she told me was okay.
seriously, gf friends, keep looking. there are way better options within a 20 minute drive.
Daniel, the owner, and Anthony, the best waiter ever, are very knowledgeable and make sure that everything is safe for me. Ask for Anthony when you order and tell him you are gf and he will take care of you! the GF Mt. Rainier roll is my favorite!
Mio has the best sushi options around. Anthony is the greatest, especially if you have any questions about gluten free options.
Yes
They do have a gf soy sauce substitute now. Management is very knowledgeable about gf procedures and options but the staff isn't. The food is great.
Awesome sushi and great for wheat and gluten free yumm . They don't have a GF soy sauce alternative :( but they are willing to get one :)
Update: sadly I’ve had to revise. In the past 6 months we’ve continued to eat many times at Mio but have had safety and quality go down. Despite always stating up front we need GF/celiac safety (and real crab) we’ve had fake krab in sushi, and there is definite confusion on whether their eel is safe - so ate it twice before someone told us it wasn’t safe.
Unfortunately, we can’t risk it anymore.

We’ve eaten here multiple times and really appreciate the restaurant’s willingness to make sure my son is safe. Plus it’s delicious sushi!

I have had sushi here many times and have always loved my food. They do have a GF menu and understand which items are safe. They do have Tamari. My favorite sushi place in Bend.

Staff is very aware of celiac and almost every sushi item can be made GF. GF soy sauce is available, and all their sauces in the sushi are GF. The waiter handed me a GF menu with naturally GF items marked and any substitutions necessary marked. GF soy sauce available. Really great sushi, and great to try fun rolls like spicy tuna!

Mio offers gluten free soy sauce upon request, and all of the sauces on their special rolls are gluten free. They are knowledgeable about substituting gf real crab for cake krab (which contains gluten). Just avoid the fried rolls and specify your GF needs and you’ll be good!
