You're better off going to Olive Garden if you're looking for flavor. I was hoping for a very nice, classy Italian dining experience. This place is in a strip mall and the food was SO VERY BLAND. I should have listened to the yelp review that said "if you're looking for an $11 plate with pasta sauce you can make at home, go here." Except that most homemade pasta sauces I've had are better than this. They were nice when I asked for gluten free pasta though. No rolling eyes or anything, so that was nice.
I enjoyed dinner at Mirko. I started with the mussels in white wine, had the house salad and then gluten free pasta with spicy pancetta tomato sauce. Everything tasted great. I double checked with the waitress that the gf pasta is cooked in a separate pot of fresh water. I gave four stars because my gf pasta was kind of broken up into short pieces, and the portion was much smaller than all the other entrees I saw. Overall good.
We had a wonderful time dining here. Great quality food, service, & price. They have both Penne & Spaghetti GF pasta options! Both are equally good. Every sauce I've had has been great. They will give you celery and carrots to dip in their bean & oil dip before the meal. Highly recommend!
So excited to find another option for dining out in Mobile! After seeing a positive, gluten free review on Urbanspoon and another on Trip Advisor, I called and spoke to their general manager Dale. He did a great job explaining how they avoid cross contamination by preparing the gluten free pasta at the beginning of each day, separate from the wheat-based pastas. He also said they have people request gluten-free accommodations through out the week, which was reassuring. As for the actual food experience, the meal was delicious! I had the gluten free pasta with the Santa Rosa sauce, topped with grilled chicken (yes, they cleaned the grill off before preparing our food). My dining companion also eats on a gluten-free diet, and had the GF pasta with alfredo sauce, topped with grilled salmon. We were told all of the sauces are GF but the Norma, which has a breaded eggplant. As they look to expand their gluten-free knowledge and offerings, I dirercted them to the GIG website to learn about their gluten-free restaurant program. I highly recommend supporting such a business that is willing to look into providing such tastey, safe dining options for we who must eat gluten-free.
homemade gluten free pasta, very knowledgeable staff
