I had the GF pasta with mushrooms & marinara as well as the Italian sausage off the gluten free menu. My meal even came out with a GF flag on it. All was good! I made sure to mention that I have problems with cross contamination.... Although this restaurant was not GIG trained, they did consult with GIG to create their GF menu.
This place made me actually vomit an hour after eating. I have Celiac Disease and I informed the waiter of my dietary restrictions. We ate off of the gluten free menu and the waiter said they were knowledgeable in how to handle this and reassured me that everything would be taken care of. It wasn't. I am not sure what they did or didn't do, but DO NOT EVER EAT THERE!!!!! Not gluten free.
Great food. Brown butter sauce was so good. Pesto dressing was amazing too. Server was knowledgeable.
Their gluten free menu provided plenty of options. The server that we had was not at all competent dealing with gluten free menu items (he asked me if I could have bread!), but the dish, when it arrived, was incredible. I'll be going there whenever I have a craving for Italian, but I hope I don't get the same kid who served us last time.
The Old Spaghetti Factory has long been one of my favorite restaurants. When I discovered I was celiac it was wonderful to find out they had a gluten-free menu. My favorite is the Mizithra spaghetti with marinated chopped chicken. It's been delicious each time I've had it and I have never had problems with it. I'm not super sensitive though. Cross-contamination is possible, which is why marked it as a "no" for celiac-friendly. Tip: Let the waiter/waitress know you're celiac or allergic/intollerant. They are required to tell the management and a manager will usually make sure everything is okay, and deliver your food themselves. Want to be really sure you're safe? Ask for a manager immediately.
Their gluten-free pasta is yummy---I enjoyed a 50/50 mix of Mizithra cheese /butter and gluten free Alfredo sauce on their pasta. I like their creamy pesto salad dressing and the spumoni is always a nice treat!!! They make accommodations for preparation of the pasta, and they let you know it's GF by serving your meal with a GF flag-toothpick on the top of it... :-) Their prices aren't bad either... PS their broccoli & mizithra is sadly not GF because of its preparation... Happy Day -
I have eaten at this particular Old Spaghetti Factor a few times now and have been happy each time. The brown butter sauce and Mizithra cheese is very good. Staff seems very knowledgeable and the menu and website clearly depict what is GF. The menu items will come out with GF flags on them so it is clear. Only reason why I gave 4 stars is I would appreciate more selections on the GF menu. Would definitely recommend to others.
So I tend to avoid Italian restaurants like the plague because of the usually lacking options that I am provides. I was pleasantly surprised by the fact that the Spaghetti Factory offered a gluten free menu, which included not only pasta, but Italian sausage as well. The prices were pretty decent. The meal include salad, bread for the carb lovers, and a choice of spumoni or vanilla ice cream for dessert. The service was good. I do have to give the server props for noticing that there was a blue cheese crumble in my salad and got me a new one prior to serving it.
Recently diagnosed celiac! I was pleasantly surprised to see TOSF had a gluten free pasta. It tasted fine. My waiter had no idea about GF so my hope would be that they teach the staff. As far as the options it's fine, they left croutons off my salad and made sure not to bring the bread at the same time as my salad and gf meal. Wouldn't be my first choice because I think the menu is already so limited, but I'd go back if others wanted too.
Corn and Rice blend pasta with different sauce options. Baked chicken, broccoli side dish, delicious creamy pesto salad dressing. delusions cheese and browned butter sauce on broccoli and pasta.
I got so sick here. I should have guessed that the experience would not end well when our server mixed up the salads when my whole party ordered the same thing. My pasta could not have possible been gluten free. To make it even worse...the server was horrible!!! We sat in the caboose this woman could not be bothered to even bring is water. We had to ask for drinks multiple time before someone brought us something.
excellent, pasta was well done multiple choices on sauces and you can mix and match. when you tell them gluten free they are very helpful on what does our doesn't have gluten. they have a gluten free menu on the back on the menu including Alfredo sauce. very happy with this restaurant.
I cannot express how much I love this place. It has the Tacoma historicesque to the building. Their gluten free menu is small, but I have come multiple times and absolutely love their Baked Chicken Meal. It comes with a salad and all their dressings are spectacular. You must try this dish if you can, the mizithra and romano cheese blend with the tomato base sauce on gluten free fusilli noodles and a marinated chicken piece is scrumptious. it also comes with a scoop of icecream, all for just over 10 bucks. The only reason I rated 4 stars is the restaurant isnt GiG trained so the staff and sort of unknowledgable about GF foods at times. Sometimes we have to wait but it is always a pleasant meal and dinner date with my man. :)
the food is sub par in taste and worse still in that I didn't enjoy the meal and got sick afterwards to boot. if you are truly gluten sensitive save your money and go somewhere else. you shouldn't waste your money when you could probably cook something better in a camp kitchen.
I don't understand the rave reviews. The waiter was ready to offer me minestrone soup although I had advised him I was gluten free. He was unfamiliar with the gluten free options. I ordered the gf pasta with marinara. Honestly it tasted like something a college student would cook with a bottled sauce. If you want a basic gluten free pasta come here otherwise if you want a hearty meal go elsewhere.
GF options are delicious and although limited include their classics. You must double and triple check your order when placed and when served they do not have an effective labeling system for the GF dishes leaving the kitchen. One night needed 3 tries to get it right.
My gluten-free pasta with the mushroom marinara sauce was delicious. Cooked to perfection. The salad came with a tasty basalmic vinaigrette. The service was very good and quick, even on a busy Saturday night. They even surprised us with a birthday song for one of our party. We'll be back!
They have a gluten free menu. They do not make their noodles in house as other comments state. If you are a sensitive celiac, absolutely avoid this place. I got very ill after eating a gluten free dish. I used to work here and it's a WONDERFUL restaurant, however, cross contamination happens.
No complaints from a gluten perspective, but I definitely wouldn't want to eat here again given how bad and dull the food was. (I had the baked chicken.) My dining companions had soup that seemed as though it might have come out of a packet, and shouldn't the cheese on pasta be Parmesan? What it was instead was something fake tasting. Really pretty dreadful. Even BJs have better pasta (and that is not saying much: I definitely don't recommend BJs!). Sorry not to be more positive.
They are a gf fave of ours when we travel since we eat out so much and once we've tried local cuisine and maybe or not dodged the gf bullet, we look for old faithfuls. They never bring the bread, always on point. I get pasta w meat sauce and side of chicken or sausage. Salad w pesto dressing and free spumoni ice cream. This location was not crowded, a quiet respite off Noisy Broadway.
On 2 trips, the first I ordered gluten free noodles with mizithra and then ordered the same thing on my second trip, and when they gave me curly pasta instead of spaghetti, I asked for the spaghetti that I had the first time and they told me that they don't have nor have they ever had gluten free spaghetti, gluten free only comes in the curly noodles. Therefore the first pasta caused a reaction two days later, which I thought was from something else, but couldn't figure out what it was. Thus if your noodles aren't curly don't eat them!
I've been gluten free for about 3 months. I've eaten at this location early in my GF days and was fine. Went on Tues and was not fine. Not sure what happened, but I think it'll be awhile before I go back which makes me sad.
We had great service and good food. No problems with finding something yummy for myself and my daugher to eat.
GF options are good. I seem to have had a mild reaction eating here once but that may have been from dairy (cheese) which I'm sensitive to.
I have been here a few times since I was diagnosed with celiacs and I've been really disapointed. I grew up going here with my family and while I think they have wonderful food for people without allergies. going back now with celiacs has been hell. I've goten sick 2 of the 3 times and the one time I didn't get sick the waiter asked me if I had an allergy or if it was just a diet. the comment pissed me off why would that matter if I ask for gluten free you should just assume its an allergy. it makes me wonder what would have happened differently had I said it was a diet choice. Was he asking me permission to be less diligent about cross contamination it just made me nervous. I've been going there since I was a kid but I haven't been back since that incident. just be cautious
Decent gluten free offerings. My son loved the pasta and salad. And he loved the flags that say gluten free then he knew for sure it was. Both he and I are very sensitive to cross contamination and neither of us were sick after eating here. Great atmosphere too.
love the gf pasta. brown butter with mizithra
Basic, decent food. GF pasta had good texture though salad was mostly iceberg and drowning in dressing. My daughters really liked the ranch dressing though. Waitstaff was very careful and clear about GF. My celiac daughter had no problems, so we'll be back next time we're in Tacoma.
Not my favorite place for gluten free pasta. But it's a nice option if you're downtown. I certainly won't turn it down if I'm in the area. (My fav gf pasta place is Willow Street Pizza)
They're food is tasty and we love The Old Spaghetti Factory, but they glutenize my husband EVERY time. We can't risk eating at this chain anymore, at least not in Utah. Both locations in Utah are VERY bad at contaminating my husband. We've marked them off our list for good.
If you are out choose another place. I went with a large group from work. If I were with friends or people I knew better I would have walked out. There essentially only one GF option unless you want a plate of carbs and they usually run out of it! All the appetizers have gluten and they were out of one of those. To end the meal the ice cream on a consistent basis of course they were out of the spumoni that was included with your meal. I am beginning to wonder if the pasta really was GF - time will tell. I was not able to give no stars or that would be so!
While TOSF has always been a favorite in my family, we were sad to see it no longer an option when my husband was diagnosed celiac. Not two weeks later we learned they had gf pasta. We started eating there, and it was great. This location, in Trolley Square, has declined recently though. The pasta is ALWAYS undercooked to the point of still being raw sometimes. We've had to send our pasta back multiple times until they get it right. When cooked properly, the pasta is amazing! The last time we went (about two weeks ago), my husband became violently ill - he'd been glutenized. The location that is further south of SLC, UT has glutenized my husband EVERY SINGLE TIME we've eaten there. We have a three strike rule - three times of glutenizing us, and you're banned. I am now 100% gluten free as well, and have been diagnosed gluten sensitive (small world!). We cannot take the chance of eating at these locations anymore. They're food is so good, when cooked properly. And their staff has the training, they just don't apply it. We have a waitress bring out our food at the same time as the table next to us, and the bread sloshed into my husband's dish. She fixed everything, handed it out, and left. My husband had to get a new meal, and she got huffy about it. No thanks. I'm sorry, TOSF, but you're banned as far as Utah locations are concerned. I hear there are SEVERAL other locations - maybe we can visit those.
Not a wide variety of options, but the food they do have is delicious. We go there regularly
Really yummy baked chicken and GF pasta. Awesome house dressing for salads.
Just returned to our hotel after dining here. They have a specific GF menu, as well as all GF items noted on the regular menu. I had the Classic Pasta (gluten free) with the Hearty Meat Sauce and the browned butter and cheese sauce. All entrees come with a salad and ice cream for dessert. The GF entree arrived at our table with a flag on it to identify it as GF. I really enjoyed this place and would recommend it to any of my GF/Celiac friends.
Many GF options, printed right on regular menu. Server was very aware and attentive to GF needs, which is refreshing. Had lunch of GF pasta with marinara and a sausage, which was very good. They use Heartland pasta, first time I've tried it and I thought it had good texture and was quite tasty. My GF meal came out with a little GF flag on it, which I thought was very funny, but it is effective since the GF pasta looks very similar to regular. The prices are very inexpensive and even include coffee or tea, and spumoni ice cream which is GF also--yum! I will definitely return. A hassle-free, nice GF lunch.
The gluten free pasta is alright, a little chewy (as it is with most gluten free pasta) but amazing when coupled with their sauces. I got the managers special, half meat sauce, half mizithra cheese and I loved it. It was so nice to have a meal that I've had probably a hundred times in my life that I had missed. And the spumoni was amazing as usual.
Terrible food. The salad was the worst salad I've ever had. Pasta was gross. I asked for a veggie and they said they didn't have any gluten free vegetables.
Awful management, did not want to check the strawberry lemonade for gluten, just insisted it was a bacardi/coke product so it was fine. Asked me embarrassing details about how sick I would get. Rude, only addressed us as "gang", as in hey gang... Most importantly, gf noodles were extremely tough to chew. Manager again said that was so they would hold together. Worst part is now my stomach hurts.
I orders a gf pasta to go. It was a great pasta but the portions suck. I should have ordered two but its kinda pricey. It was great tasting regardless.
Service is usually great, the GF pasta is dense but okay.
The food was amazing as was the stunning decor. Great service and very clean, excellent Gluten Free food, as well as regular menu food.
They have an entire gluten free menu. My three year old feels so special getting noodles while eating out. they will make the gf food in kid portions too
Seperate menu, however the staff isnt very informed about cross contamination
great gf noodles. I loved the baked chicken as well.
A few sloppy wait staff, so emphasize your needs and watch for crotons. Otherwise, great pasta options!
love the baked chicken
Service was good. Not many options on the GF menu, but I probably should have had the chicken. The GF pasta was not very good, the marinara sauce was just "okay", and the rest was covered in some type of cheese that tasted stale. I could have had a better pasta meal at home. The pesto dressing on the house salad was good, but the salad was boring otherwise. I think the rest of my group enjoyed their non- GF meals, and I do have to say that we were surprised that it wasn't more expensive. If you're GF you won't go hungry here, but you could do better elsewhere.
They were great about our GF pasta! They even have a little flag they stick in the GF dishes to tell them apart. On our visit with a very large group it was no big deal to be GF. It felt so nice to be" just like everyone else." as we left I saw several GF flags on tables across the restaurant, so I guess they not only take GF pasta seriously, they do it right.
Great place to eat at a reasonable price.
They were very accomodating & the food was great.
got the marinara GF pasta. was really really bland. pasta tasted like normal GF (rice?) pasta but sauce had hardly any flavor...also added crutons to salad after I ordered GF food so may need to ask to hold
This place is great! There are SP few locations where you can get gluten free pasta. Not to mention there are different sauces to pick from. the staff is very knowledgable and friendly. It's a great place to enjoy some great gluten free Italian.
