I’m always a bit fearful when going to a restaurant I have never been. But my waiter reassured me that there is a dedicated fryer for the gluten free stuff. I had the fish and chips and it was amazing!!! So amazing I can’t believe it was gluten free! Fries were great too!! We were seated up in the back and had a view of the ocean which was also delightful! It was a bit pricey for a family of four though.

OMG - the place is awesome. There is a dedicated fryer and can make most everything on their menu gf. I had the fish & chips (1st time since I got my celiac diagnosis) and they were fresh and delicious. Nicely seasoned and very fresh fish. French fries were hot and tasty. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about what I needed and what they could do.

This place is amazing! They can make almost any menu item gf, even though it’s not mentioned on the menu. They have a dedicated frier for gf food, just ask your server! The fish and chips were incredible. Very thick and crispy “breading” that didn’t get soggy or fall off the fish

They have a dedicated fryer and most items can be made gluten free. This is not noted on the menu so talk to your server. They do not have gf rolls and the chicken fingers on the kids menu are not gf. My son with celiac enjoyed his fish and chips!

We had the kids meals gluten free fish and chips and an adult fried clams and chips. Both were delicious and we had zero reactions and my daughter is VERY sensitive Celiac. Service was great and large variety of options of fried foods with a dedicated frier. The kids chicken tenders can NOT be done gluten free though!

Great fish and chips!! I’m from the land of vandecamps and gortons fish because fresh fish isn’t a thing. Haven’t had it since I was diagnosed celiac. When we got there after driving all day the hostess didn’t know what I was talking about when I asked about what was gf. A waitress walking by pointed out what could be made in a dedicated fryer. I ordered the fish and chips (haddock). Kiddo ate off the kids menu- not gf. She’s not celiac so all was good. Best thing I’ve eaten in a while. FaceTime-d my parents back in OH to make them jealous. Took food to go and picnicked on the beach. Simply wonderful. Be sure to tell the server your needs, they know everything.

Really delicious. Ordered combo of fish (haddock) and full belly clams. Ate most of my meal and then found a piece of pasta in my cole slaw. I am gluten sensitive, not celiac.

Couple of choices for my picky 6 year old celiac. Unfortunately he’s been violently ill for over an hour now so must have been cross contaminated. We left satisfied but I question whether the meal was GF at all at this point.

I’ve eaten here 4 times while visiting Old Orchard Beach for a few weeks and so far so good. I’ve had the fish & chips, fried scallops, fried clams, fish tacos, and lobster bake. The servers were knowledgeable about cross contamination and they have a dedicated fryer. Get there earlier in the afternoon or make a reservation because it tends to fill up quick.

Nice view of the beach. My daughter was able to get fried fish fried in its own fryer. But no gluten free rolls. Server seemed knowledgeable.

The staff was very nice. Most items on the menu are available as a gluten free option. My son had the fish tacos and my daughter had the fish and chips. Both have celiac and are very sensitive and neither had any reaction. It was a great dinner out!

Food was decent. Prepared in a timely manner on a busy night. Service was amazing! They have a dedicated GF fryer, I had fish and chips and they didn’t make me feel bad for ordering GF. As a local, I will absolutely go back! I don’t have celiac but have a pretty bad intolerance, feel great still!

What a fun little place! We got seated on the back deck and the view of the ocean was amazing! I have celiac and was over the moon that they use a dedicated fryer for all fried foods for those with gluten allergies. I had the fried clams and they were delicious!!!

We all enjoyed the fried seafood and french fries without any issues later. Eight thumbs up!

So just for clarity sake, and this is just semantics, but they every fried food item that they have is gluten free. So yes they have a dedicated fryer; but even better, they have no other fryers so they can't mistakenly use the wrong one.

Fish and chips were great (although a touch pricey at $21)! They also have a back roof deck which is nice and not obvious if you've never been.

Old Orchard Beach is great for me as a Celiac.

Prior to going, I had messaged the restaurant on FB to verify that this has a dedicated fryer and also they answered my questions well. The waitress was helpful and knowledgeable, but when we ordered our food, my son with Celiac found noodles in the coleslaw. :( It was the proximity of the coleslaw to something with pasta. We agreed to go to this pricier restaurant thinking we would be safe, but then this happened. No offer to not charge us, just an offer for a different bowl of coleslaw. The rest of the food was already contaminated and he had been eating it. We loved the food, but very sad that we had trusted it to be safe.

I was very excited and pleased to find out that I could finally have fried seafood again. I was diagnosed with Celiac 4 years ago and since then finding certain gf foods can be discouraging. The Shack has a dedicated fryer for gluten free items. I had wings and fried clams and I was in heaven. I thanked the owner for offering fried seafood. I did not get sick. Their current menu doesn't state anything is gluten free but I believe they will be changing that.
