A restaurant for tourists, with nothing on the menu specifically for GF. You need to ask. Server very busy and not really interested in anything. Slow service, average food. Boring interior of restaurant.

They offer any of their pizzas on a REALLY good cauliflower crust (so good that I took a bite and made the server confirm it was GF). My very sensitive celiac daughter had no reaction.

Menu marks items that contain gluten. Only a few options. Had the steak salad without issue.

They now have cauliflower pizza crust and it’s fantastic. Cooked in a mini separate oven.
Still very few other options but the mascarpone pizza on gf crust was yummy and large. Margarita was good too!
So far so good with symptoms

Very very little choices to begin with (3 or so). I got the sashimi and it tasted HORRIBLE. The fish was super bland. The gluten free soy sauce tasted and smelled like a gross combination of cheap soy sauce and bbq sauce. The cucumber was also very bad. I ate about 3 bites before I couldn’t eat anymore. Was very dissapointed.

Not a lot on the lunch menu was gf. The menu was marked with items that were gf and nut free. I’m gf and pescatarian. The only thing that could accommodate both was the market salad with grilled fish on it. Was pretty tasty but quite expensive.

The wait staff and chef were knowledgeable about Celiac disease. My daughter had a delicious meal without issue.
Yes
I ordered the market salad with grilled chicken. The staff seemed unsure on what I meant by gluten free and dairy free. However our waitress said she checked with the chef on the items and they were both safe. The salad was ok. Unfortunately I had a reaction not long after eating.
No
This goes by the name Volcano Grill or something now. They had marked the very few items that were gluten free. However they marked the pasta gluten free and when I asked the waitress she gave the answer "I guess". We didn't chance it. Our son brought our own food so he just ate that. It took forever for the rest of our food and it wasn't very good. I'd pack and have a picnic instead of going here.

I went to The Rim both for dinner and breakfast, and both times the staff were very knowledgeable about what had gluten in it and cross contamination. They had little icons for what was gluten free and what wasn’t. I enjoyed the food immensely.
Yes
Went with a group tour so had to order the night before. When we arrived the restaurant knew we were GF. They said the salad dressing was GF but it looked questionable. The NY steak arrived with a pile of French fried onions on it which was not gf, so it had to go back. The dessert came with a cookie placed in it. It had to go back too. Maybe it would have been different if we dined individually but we’ll not be going back to find out.
Wonderful meal! Staff was knowledgeable and many of the dishes are naturally gluten free, so I could have all the sauces and relishes, no substitutions or serving items plain. We had appetizers, entrees and a dessert and all were fantastic.
Yes
Awesome place to eat. We ate here twice and both times our waiter and waitress helped us with the menu and had the chef modify some dishes so they were gluten free. I have a severe allergy to gluten and even the smallest amount of gluten results in a severe reaction; I had no problem both times we ate here. Kuddos to the staff for being on top of their menu.
Rim Restaurant is a lovely restaurant with huge glass windows inside the historic Volcano House hotel, which overlooks the Kilauea Caldera and showcases spectacular views of the billowing Halema'uma'u Crater. All food is locally sourced. Serves breakfast, lunch and dinner - but in my opinion dinner is when you want to dine here. Not only are there many delicious gluten free options such as warm squash soup, spinach and goat cheese stuffed chicken and mango creme brûlée, the view of the glowing volcanic crater at night is spectacular!
