Utterly fantastic! There were choices. I had curry, and it was really, really good. If you're in Chicago, and you want a nice gluten free meal, you have to try this restaurant.
another faux Asian establishment...the entrees are mostly rice, and not the good kind of rice either. blech!
Their gluten free menu has many of the options if the regular with slight modifications. The pad Thai, orange chicken and mochi are to die for! I love this place and never have problems there. The servers are attentive and a manager typically brings out my meal to ensure it was prepared properly
Good food, good gf attentiveness.
Everything was delicious and I was impressed with the selection on their GF menu. Definitely would come back here!
Delicious!!! Just had Chicken Pad Thai and Veggie Spring Rolls delivered to my hotel. Absolutely delicious!
Awesome Mongolian beef. Very knowledgeable staff !!
They had a decent selection for gluten free. A few entrees, noodle dishes, appetizers and desserts. We chose to do the make your own stir fry and they were quite accommodating! On top of that it was delicious. Good when you are feeling like having American-Chinese or Thai.
Very yummy gluten free options, I had the chicken Pad Thai, egg drop soup, and vegetable summer rolls one day, then went back the next to try the Mongolian beef. Staff is friendly and helpful. Prices are decent, especially if you go for a midweek lunch and order from the lunch menu. Highly recommended
Flavors weren't good. Pad thai was to floral and citrus based. Went in wanting more realistic pad thai and got something strange.
Phenomenal!! Had the Laotian sweet potato soup and shrimp pad Thai. Boy, how I have missed it! Delicious food, great service and very comforting to know it was "safe" for me to eat. Every time an item was brought to me the server said "This is 100% gluten free" which is reassuring. The manager came to check on us, offered to bring tamari instead of soy sauce. And homemade ginger ale?! Great meal!!
Lots of great options!
Not enough room to express how amazing this place is for GF people. We love it do much they we are buying out the restaurant next year for our wedding reception.
Great gluten free food. So, so service. Think it was just my server. Others more attentive.
The staff is very knowledgable about GF. The food is good, but a little on the salty side.
Went there for the first time yesterday-- and WAS SERVED A NON GLUTEN FREE MEAL (yes, by mistake-- but I was 6 bites in before they realized their mistake). Upon ordering we had told the server (nicely) that four of the five of us were gluten free and that our entire order was off of the GF menu. When our main course came, we dug right in-- only to learn after a few minutes that the server brought us someone else's order and that we all had inadvertently consumed a relatively large amount of gluten-- NOT OKAY. While I understand and appreciate that they made a mistake (and thankfully caught it relatively quickly-- as well as comp'd my meal)-- that doesn't help alleviate the massive amount of pain my daughter and I are in, even now, nearly 24 hours later. Long story short, don't go there if you're GF for health/medical reasons-- or, at least, double and triple check your meal before consuming. Lesson learned, I'll stick to the 3-4 places that we already frequent that take gluten free seriously. DO NOT RECOMMEND.
Very particular about allergens in Ridgedale & Rosedale. Great choices! Love this restaurant!
Gf menu available and I used to get take out a lot but was always getting glutened. I finally ate in the restaurant once and saw how they cook through the open kitchen and it all made sense. Small space with all the dishes cooked right next to each other. Shared utensils, lots of flipping food all around. Cc all over the place. :(
I was very happy to have checked out Big Bowl for a quick dinner while running errands. The server was very knowledgeable on GF/celiac, and when I started to talk about cross-contamination she said that they treat all GF orders as allergies. So I felt that they were on the ball and very capable. My chicken pad thai was excellent, and the server even brought out a bottle of GF soy sauce for me. Boyfriend also had the same but not GF. He tasted mine and said they were different, but obviously I couldn't compare. To me, it tasted just like what I remember to be standard pad thai.
Staff was very kind and efficient. Food was kind of heavy, but good. Didn't have a huge, prepared to be gluten free menu but they can adjust almost anything to be made flute free
Rice noodle option
used to be one of my favorite restaurants. food has declined badly. Last visit the GF Kung Pow was awful. Waitress did not understand when I asked if the recipe had been changed and kept repeating that it Was GF. Never saw a manager to ask. they've lost our business.
We stopped there because the app said there was gf menu and the reviews were good. We were in town for the GF expo. We ordered the GF lettuce wraps because the server said that was possible even though it was not on the gf menu. My friend ordered the gf pad Thai. everything tasted really good! we were glad we stopped. on the way home on our hour + drive, we both started to get sick :( not sure if it was due to ordering something not on the gf menu.
Since changing the fish sauce, Big Bowl offers more than half of their menu items as Gluten Free! Also, chat up their wait staff and discover who's been there the longest. Half of the front of the house staff have been there 3 or more years. As for the management team - you will learn that 5 of the 6 managers have worked there for 9 years plus. This makes me comfortable in ordering off the menu - knowing their expertise & experience can guide me through the menu!
Food was good, but left feeling as if I was going to be sick. Not sure if it was cross contamination.
Update: went to Big Bowl Roseville this week -- service has become insanely disgusting. Waiters/waitresses are rude and take no responsibility for their mistakes. Management is great at cleaning up their messes though. I also did get sick after this meal. They are becoming more careless as time goes on (they also don't have a specific gluten free menu anymore, not sure why). Always delicious, rarely have an issue. Can get pretty pricey but its worth it!
Amazing options for Asian food, so yummy! They had different flavors than most gf Asian places. Great atmosphere too with dedicated gf menu.
They have a gluten free menu and the staff is mostly knowledgeable. The food is very good, and they will substitute rice noodles for rice on any dish if you're in the mood for noodles instead of rice (which isn't noted on the menu). You do have to be vigilant with some of the wait staff. I had to write "gluten free please" on the slip the waiter gives you to take up to the line if you're doing the stir fry bar and picking your own vegetables. He hadn't noted my gluten free request, and I am sure I would have been glutened otherwise. Wait staff turnover is pretty frequent and a lot of nice young people, so make sure you're very specific about your needs.
Just ate here last night. Mongolian beef was yummo as was the pick your own stir fry. Food comes out in "allergy" bowls. The stir fry was made with it's own pan, utensils, etc... Very attentive to cross-contamination. My husband ordered a gf beer but they had run out. They usually do have one on hand though. Great option!
Dedicated gluten free menu with lots of great choices.
Dessert is amazing!!
They have a full gluten free menu, even with desserts! They also have a gluten free vegetarian pad Thai and veggie spring rolls. The manager has to serve all gf food and oversee it in the kitchen to ensure it is cooked properly! I felt well taken care of!
I love Big Bowl's GF menu. Lots to choose from, including a few desserts. They've even got GF beer. I've never had any issues with either take out or dining in.
