Good food and the staff takes allergies seriously.
Agree with all the positive reviews! Extensive menu, food was delicious and I felt very comfortable eating here! Waitstaff was very knowledgeable and even brought me GF bread. Was a bit noisy but I will definitely be back!
Had a wide variety of options on their menu. We had the wings and the maple chicken sandwich. Everything was delicious. The bar tender was very efficient and was very helpful. I wish I lived closer I would come here all the time.
A large portion of their regular menu is actually GF! Many apps, salads, entree and even dessert options (plus drink selections) are all identified.
Great place for celiac. Dedicated fryer! Wait staff knowledgeable and consistent.
My daughter and son have Celiac and this is the only restaurant that we trust. The staff is amazing knowable and understanding. Can't get any better than that. Thank you Burton's Grill for caring.
Good food, great service, very knowledgeable & conscious of us Celiac's, loved their cheesecake & ancinni but only negative & it was a big one with my wife; it's a very noisy/loud dining room area, you to scream to talk to your partner, it's bad but...Food & service was good!
Extensive gluten-free menu. Server was very sensitive to the fact that I had a gluten allergy. So nice to go to a place where you feel like a normal person when ordering
Outstanding. Certified GF and really know how serious food sensitivities (celiac and others) are. Dedicated fryers and prep areas, extensive GF menu. Crisp, light fried calamari : ) I will be back.
Probably best GF menu around - make nice bread and serve on different shaped plates for any allergy- take it very serious and everything is delicious!! My #1 go to place
Great options including rolls and fried food!
SO many options. Everything tasted great and was satisfying- it didn't feel like I was eating GF.
lots of great gf options
Best GF restaurant on east coast! Chef can tailor almost any meal to GF. They serve GF bread, GF blue cheese, GF deep fryer (aka not cross-contaminated), all of which are great examples of a restaurant that understands gluten allergy customers. Seriously, I've been to dozens of GF friendly restaurants in Boston, NYC, and DC and this is my favorite. A guaranteed top 3 for anyone with celiacs.
BEST gluten-free options in town! I am a local and come here at least once a week. Great management and they are very careful about any cross contamination. 99% of the regular menu is safe for celiacs. Buns, fries, even fried chicken tenders and calamari! Love this place, and even my non-GF friends and fiancé rave about the food!
even brought us a GF roll before dinner!
Amazing! So celiac friendly. They cater to allergies! I had fried cauliflower and a chicken sandwich with onion straws and fries. So great!
Yummy pesto bread and dip to start. Amazing burger and fries!
This location is spot on and is always consistent. We frequent here and have become friendly with the staff and managers over time. I always get an amazing meal and the staff is educated on celiac and will accommodate. They even have an array of GF desserts! Highly recommend this location!
As soon as we came in they asked if anyone needed a gluten sensitive menu (awesome) and the waitress also asked immediately if anyone had an allergies. I had the tacos and fries from a dedicated fryer! Awesome. I have celiac.
We come here multiple times when we visit Charleston. Never been disappointed. So many great GF choices! We learned on this lay visit that the president of the company has Celiac's so they have been GF since the very beginning. They go above and beyond! The shrimp and lobster pasta is GF and amazing! The risottos are fabulous.
Burtons is hands down the best place in the area for Gluten Free Food. Not only do they have a separate menu (with 95% of the items on the regular menu), they have a separate frylator, square plates only for GF, circle for normal, manager delivers food separately, delicious warm rolls, and great steak, seafood, etc... LOVE LOVE LOVE
Words cannot describe how wonderful Burtons is about GF food. They have a great, varied GF menu, and they are incredibly diligent about getting it right. Servers won't even carry a GF dish at the same time as a non-GF dish! Burtons can even do most of its kids' menu GF. We have eaten there dozens of times and NEVER had an issue.
I've eaten at Burton's many times- the Mt Pleasant location as well as one in Massachusetts. Many gluten free options and I never worry about cross contamination here. They serve gluten free food on a different shape plate than gluten containing items; easy to spot the difference if you look. The food itself is solid- my favorite item on the whole menu is the fried calamari and hot pepper appetizer. It's hard to find fried gluten free food so I like to indulge on the rare occasion I happen upon any..... I've eaten lots of the entrees as well but would choose the calamari and a side salad over anything else. I like Burton's for my two celiac kids as well- their children's menu is called "B Choosey" and is all about giving young diners ample meal customization. Portions are very large and my kids get a kick out of being able to eat virtually anything on the menu- a true treat when dining out is often about what they "can't" eat.
GREAT knowledge of dietary needs! First thing the waiter asked when we sat down was if anyone had dietary allergies. Full gluten free menu full of great options. Not to mention, the food is delicious! As a Midwestern vacationer, I would highly recommend to all locals and tourists
HUGE gluten free menu! The first time I went I was debating between 4 options because everything looked so good. I even got an extra side. The buffalo chicken dip is delicious and not super hot, I get it every single time and for carry. The burgers are also delicious especially with bacon. So many sandwich options and the plates always look beautiful. At my location they have some device that they type in and it instantly sends back the orders so your food comes out really fast!!
Really good food. I didn't have any issues with cross contamination. The waitress made me feel very comfortable eating there. One of the owners has celiac disease.
Burtons Grill is the safest place to dine in Charlottesville for people who have Celiac Disease. The staff prepares food in a separate kitchen, uses dedicated fryers, and serves gluten-sensitive food on square plates. (All other food is served on round plates.) The menu is extensive and the service is always pleasant.
First thing the hostess asked, after how many people in our party, was if anyone had a gluten allergy or sensitivity. This started out our dining experience on the right foot! They have a full separate GF menu with appetizers, soups and main courses. Not just a couple choices! The server also asked first thing too about allergies. We ordered the GF calamari as an appetizer ...EXCELLENT! Highly recommend ordering! My main course was the breaded fish sandwich with fries, this was a messy sandwich and needed a little extra tarter, but it was great. The kids menu choices were a little pricey for what was provided. We arrived for our meal about 20 minutes before closing (since we had to find a gf place, of course). They were extremely accommodating and didn't give the impression that we were a hindrance which we knew we were. All of the staff was fantastic. Highly recommend this restaurant!
I have celiac and have never had a problem dining here. The staff is incredibly kind and friendly and are very conscious of allergies, with the kitchen never failing to serve a delicious meal that is also safe to eat. My recommendation however is to stay very alert, if you are brought your order on a circle plate instead of a square, then there was a mix up and you should alert the server to it. Overall 10/10 I'm a Burton's regular and always enjoy the night's that I choose to eat here.
Delicious food that we keep coming back to, but I have experienced cross contamination. It's best to eat here at slower times. I've only ever gotten sick at popular times. Considering the lack of celiac friendly dining in Charlottesville, this is a good choice for lunch or dinner.
I was skeptical going in, but it was a fantastic experience. They really know their food, and what's better: they know their allergies. Most of their food is inherently gluten free and they are hyper aware of gluten as an allergen. They present a gluten free menu that I assumed was the real menu, because it had most of the food on it. Burger was phenomenal, probably the best I've ever had. Gluten free bun and the highest quality beef you could ask for. Great atmosphere and good service. Gluten free beers on tap, as well as ciders. Will visit again tl;dr - Great food, large selection, good atmosphere, good service, will visit again
