I had the most wonderful, accommodating server and bartender! As soon as I asked if the Chips were corn or flour, he asked if I had a gluten allergy and began checking things for me. I felt so understood and protected. Usually Mexican restaurants are pretty safe for me, but Chuy’s uses a lot of marinades and thickeners that are not gluten free. He was so nice and so helpful, getting me options of nachos made with plain roasted chicken or grilled shrimp, and cheese sauces not made with thickeners. He was wonderful. Even though Chuy’s doesn’t have a ton of gluten free options on the menu, I had an amazing meal of shrimp nachos with great sauces because he was willing to help me. Most appreciated!

All their meat is marinated in beer so no meat is gluten free and it took years to figure this out after telling them I was gluten free and asking for options. Beware!

As soon as we got there the manager was at the front desk my husband mentioned I have celiac’s disease. He made use to place me with someone who understood and gave us the gluten menus. It was fabulous.! The waitress was very aware of what was needed. And the manager checked on us.

Chuys does have a gluten free menu. I eat there at least 5 days a week. There is sereval options and they can switch ingredients to make for an free.
They have a separate gf menu. Not too many choices but what they have is delicious. Staff was knowledgeable.

I have heard they marinate all their meat in beer but I always get the Tex mex enchiladas with rice and beans and substitute the Tex mex sauce for a cilantro cream sauce (I forget what it’s called). I haven’t had any problems with that. I don’t eat the chips though as I’ve heard they use a shared fryer.

Were pretty knowledgeable. They helped me find something gluten free I could eat.
I had the boom boom chicken with rancherito sauce. Tortillas were corn and all the sauces are gluten free. Good food.

Do NOT eat here if you have any type of gluten intolerance.

You don’t have a GF menu if you can’t offer a meal! Most frustrating experience when you are excluded from almost every item in the place. reminds me of how fast food restaurants list their condiments as GF. That does not mean you have a GF menu. Don’t waste your time.
No
Barely anything is gf.. the chicken is marinated in beer and the rice isn’t even GF.. most of the sauces are not GF. They couldn’t guarantee that anything wouldn’t be cross contaminated. I got something with unmarinated chicken and beans and it was not worth it.
No
Not many options, especially for a “Mexican” restaurant. Staff not knowledgeable.

The only been thing they could guarantee being gluten free was their house salad, and that was discussing.

They haven't changed their menu in 5 years. Great if you are GF and a vegetarian. Otherwise most limiting Mexican restaurant ever!

Manager very helpful and knowledgeable. They are more GF friendly at this Chuys than other locations. Chips, rice, shredded chicken, ranchero sauce, jalapeño dip (served with chips), salsa, beans all GF.
Also has a Dairy Free Menu. Claim possible cross-contamination, as no dedicated GF kitchen area.
Yes
Fantastic experience at Chuy’s. The manager and majority of the staff were very knowledgeable on what items are gluten free items! Their chips are made in a dedicated fryer. And corn tortillas are gluten free. Staff was so kind to let me know all the gluten free sauces that were options. Their fajita meat is not gluten free. I had the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom enchiladas and they were delicious. No cross contamination and I feel great after my meal. I’m making Chuy’s my permanent Mexican food spot in OKC!

Even though they have a GF menu, they will not guarantee it will actually be GF. All their meat proteins have gluten - from the marinade. The chips are not GF either. Very disappointing.

The GM was extremely knowledgeable about the processes and cross contamination! Chips at this location are celiac safe, boom boom sauce, and jalapeno ranch as well!

A classic Tex Mex chain so you can expect the quality to be subpar. The manager was very accommodating and confirmed they had a dedicated fryer for only corn. However, they did have to check on a lot with the previous manager to ensure GF items. I got the chicken flautas with roasted chicken. While my typical reaction of ataxia did not kick in, I did leave feeling somewhat symptomatic: light headed, hot/cold flashes, weak on my feet etc. I think I may have been exposed in some capacity.
Be aware: marinated meat is cooked in beer, queso has gluten, Mexican rice is fried in gluten fryer, and chips are cross contaminated.

If you have celiac DONT DO IT! Let me be a cautionary tale to those with any kind of gluten sensitivity. I have celiac and am currently in the worst pain of my life from eating here.
