Cocina Azul was very accommodating. You need to be upfront with your requests. Many of the cocktails were unavailable, and I didn’t trust the margarita mix to be gluten free. I requested they make a tequila with lime juice and club soda, which was great!! For my main I asked that they clean a portion of the grill to toast my corn tortillas for shrimp tacos which was no problem. Overall excellent experience!

I’ve seen mixed experiences about eating here. The Chile is gluten free and they steamed the tortillas to avoid cross contamination. My family also once got takeout enchiladas for a large family dinner from here. Haven’t had a problem and thought it tasted great. I think largely depends on your server and if they are willing to advocate in the kitchen for the extra prep. Mine caught that they didn’t steam the first time and had them remake it (likely he forgot to ask lol) but appreciate the honesty and care. Chips are a no go.

Waiter was knowledgeable and able to accommodate. No GF menu.

The waitress was honest and said that the kitchen was not celiac safe. I thanked her for the honesty (she was great) and ordered a side of rice and guacamole. When the guacamole came, there was a chip on top of the dish. I was then told that their fryer was not Gf and asked for a different dish of guacamole. The server then took the dish back and brought it back with the chip removed, stating that it was a new dish of guacamole. When it was pointed out that it seemed (was!) the same dish, he said, “fine” and took it back. Didn’t feel safe eating here at all.

The website boast about how gf friendly it is... you get the “everything can be made gf” but no markings on the menu. I ate my tacos which were ok but my girlfriend got red chile (not gf) and some of it poured over to my plate. So they’re not real careful.

The website lists a whole bunch of info on how to eat gluten free at Cocina Azul, but our server seemed nonplussed when I asked her to do whatever modifications needed to be done to make my order gluten free (e.g. steam the tortillas instead of frying them was listed on the website). My enchiladas were delicious, but there was so much uncertainty in the meal (e.g. the tortilla chips, the green chilies) that I wouldn’t recommend this place for serious gluten sensitivities. I didn’t get sick, but I was so unsure when I was there.
