The food was greasy but great! I especially loved the collard greens with kimchi! And it's sooo nice to go to not have to worry about cross contamination

amazing food and amazing service! not having to worry about cross contamination was a huge relief. we are visiting from San Diego and we will be back before we leave for a second visit.
loved the waffles and wings!!!
I was so very excited to learn about this place after getting diagnosed Celiac...
The food was absolutely terrible. Ordered two eggs over medium and each one was cooked completely differently. The potatoes were so bland - tasted like they weren't even salted. Hamburger was a grease-filled mess - patty in 2 pieces, overcooked, etc.
Worst food I've had in the east bay.

The fried chicken was amazing ... preferred that over the chicken sandwich. They were very accommodating to our gluten free/dairy free/latex free diet. Highly recommend for a safe meal!

I have celiac and a casein allergy. I'm extremely sensitive to gluten cross contamination. I've been coming here for over a year and have never had a reaction.
Their service leaves a little to be desired but the food is amazing. The fried chicken is my favorite.

Wow - this place does the soul good. Had the fried chicken and waffles. Very generous serving sizes! the chicken is absolutely amazing (just a bit more salt would make it perfect). The waffles are good (they do taste a bit healthy as someone mentioned in a previous review). Real maple syrup was nice. From the outside this place looks like an old gas station but it's super interesting inside, good music and inspired comfort food.

I tried their buns and they were delicious! We are from out of town and we uber' there only to find that they were closed. One of the owners opened the door for us, gave us a recommendation for another restaurant as well as a couple buns! Amazing hospitality! The owner has celiac and both owners are super helpful and warm! We will definitely be coming back next time are in town.

What a find! Hubby and I had chicken and waffles and grilled cheese with house potatoes. Sooooo good. Waffles taste a bit healthier than I would like. Manager was super receptive to criticism and suggestions (though, there weren't much to give). Husband tried the Death by Taxes before he left and said it would have been stellar woth the chicken and waffles. Hoping to go back and see a bigger menu.

Czech beer is off the chain and their bagels really are the best bagels in the world!!!!

This place has improved, years ago when I came the chicken was burnt. Now, been back twice and it has been very good. Glad to see a dedicated gf place doing well.

YES! From now on, whenever I'm anywhere near Oakland, this place is TOP of my list. I had the breakfast sandwich on GF bagel and a pint of Moonlight Reality Czech pils. What a rare experience: I felt like a normal human being. Owner Lizzie clearly knows her stuff and cares deeply about taking care of visitors. Thoroughly delighted, newly devoted.

Dedicated gluten free!
I appreciate that they are making allergy friendly foods. My gluten eating partner liked the chicken and waffles. Reasonably priced but small portions and not necessarily the cleanest dinning environment.

I've been here a couple of times now. The fried chicken is amazing and they even have gluten free beer from a local brewery. The food will defiantly keep you full for a long time.

I am dairy free as well and they were able to accommodate. I had fried chicken and the olive oil cake and everything was delicious!

I'm looking forward to returning to the Grease Box. They bake their own breads and desserts and use interesting ingredients in creative dishes, such as lime marmalade. My fried chicken was great. I could not order the waffles because of the buttermilk (cassein). Servers, cooks and staff were all friendly and relaxed. What a gem! Sadly lost a star because one of my baguette halves was burned.

I have found heaven in the East Bay. Grease Box is EVERYTHING a fun, funky, fabulous, Celiac safe-and-everyone-else-is-still-thrilled delicious breakfast spot in Emeryville. Buttermilk waffles and fried chicken are NO JOKE. Don't pass this up.

This was a very nice spot to find. My husband had a procedure today to test for Celiacs, and afterwards, we went here for the first time (he craves fried chicken). They make their own hot sauce, and it's really good! The food is a great medium!
Friendly, delicious, amazing and homemade bread. 100% gluten free. Couldn't be happier.
Yes
All gluten free! Too bad this restaurant isn't that great. The fried chicken is terrible, waffles just ok, and the service is aloof. But there's no where else in town I can get a safe burger. Theirs are juicy and delicious, and the buns hold up. Yum, the burgers alone will keep me coming back. I wish they would offer to sub a salad for the greasy home fries.

Everything gluten free! Looks can be deceiving. Don't judge a book by its cover. Food is great. Nice back patio for a sunny day. Great waffles!

delicious, responsible, safe, soulful eats.

Excellent potatoes, bacon, and beer too! Like the spot, like the people who run it.
And because it's a dedicated kitchen, it is ALL SAFE, HALLELUJAH!
