Wonderful meal! The tortilla chips are not safe for celiac ( share fryer). Lots of gf options and our server was very knowledgeable!

Pleased with the gluten-free options, especially tacos & shells. Putting a burrito over salad or rice & quinoa was an excellent choice. The server was knowledgeable and suggested how I ordered my meal. They have gluten-free hard cider on tap.

The manager and chief both came out to talk to me about the options for my gluten free food. It’s a small kitchen and they do not have a dedicated frier but they cleaned off a part of the stove for me, and opened all new packs. Very accommodating and knowledgeable!!

Run for the Hills. Cross contamination is HIGH!! Bought burrito that should have been on a salad. Came out in burrito shell. They clearly threw it in a plate and sent back out. Daughter had a ton of allergies and dairy was on her tomatoes. Sauce for my salad also had melted dairy in it. Take my advice and go somewhere else.

The staff was very knowledgeable. I told our waiter right when we sat down I had a gluten allergy and he told me not to eat the chips or anything fried. I had the tres amigos which was chicken, carne asade, shrimp, rice, guacamole, and Pico de Gallo. It's been a day and so far no signs of cross contamination. And it was delicious. The menu does not denote what's gluten free so you have to talk to the wait staff before you order, but he was so friendly and even helped me decide when I was stuck between a couple options.

Fabulous tacos and enchiladas. The chips are in shared fryer. Tons of options and our waiter walked us through all of them.

Amazing food and very knowledgeable staff. Didn't get sick, got the carne asada and they cooked it in a separate space from other food.

Howling Wolf is my favorite place in Salem. I eat here frequently and have never had a reaction. I can even eat the chips without issue - though I am not super-sensitive. I usually get either nachos or tacos and a delicious margarita!

One of the few places I feel comfortable eating at with celiacs. Let your server know & don’t eat the chips. There isn’t a gf menu but many gf options. The enchiladas are my favorite. They can also make a gf marg that is to die for!

Excellent meal and excellent service! Server was so nice and helpful with what was gluten free. I also have a garlic allergy and the staff was very careful in preparing my food. I had no issues or reactions; I highly recommend.

Disappointed that they fry their chips in the same fryer as everything else, so no chips and queso. I ended up ordering the pork enchiladas which were good. We sat at the bar and the bartender let me know about the chips. Food was good and I didn’t get sick

Good Mexican food. But not sure how safe they are really. I had a reaction eating here recently. And the staff doesn’t seem to reassuring or confident when dealing with a Celiac.
You can get the enchiladas and tacos corn tortilla. Not sure that they have separate kitchen space for these things altho my waiter said so.

I eat here every week! There is no gf menu but the staff us very knowledgeable. You can get all the tacos on corn tortillas (except for the fried avocado taco), quesadillas with corn tortillas, enchiladas, and all the rice and beans. Their skinny marg is the only one that is gf that they know of. Beware, their drinks are strong!!

Tortilla chips along with everything else is fried in a common fryer with flower tortillas. Not celiac friendly.

I got really sick from eating a taco here. The waiter said it was gluten, dairy and soy free. It must have had gluten in it somewhere though (maybe in the sauce). I could tell it was gluten from the severity & type of my reaction. It was busy on this night so I think they were doing their best but just not knowledgeable about gluten ingredients.

We went a few weeks before Halloween, so it was very very busy. We were getting concerned as to if it was a good idea to eat here or not because a busy restaurant is not always a careful restaurant. We informed the server and he then informed the manager, which made us feel a bit more safe. We ordered the chicken "nachos" but instead of tortilla chips it was served on lettuce. We went through every ingredient together and excluded all of the possible problems. The manager brought the food out to us as well. Overall, It was delicious and had no issues afterwards. Rule of thumb always ask for the manager!
Yes
Server seemed knowledgeable, but my salad was served with corn chips (not gf) on top. Worse, my plate of plain grilled veggies contained a corn chip. Sent it all back and didn't eat because I can't take a chance. Not celiac safe at all, very careless.

Very knowledgeable staff, and the food was great!
I love it here and I never get sick! All tacos, burritos, and quesadillas can be made with corn tortillas. Unfortunately their chips are not gluten free, but they will provide soft corn tortillas to dip in their must try queso as a chip alternative.
Yes
Tacos were incredible and made with corn!! Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable! I will be back.
June 2017 -- Went back to Salem for another visit and made sure to stop at the Howling Wolf. Again, the waiter went over the menu with me and helped me choose safe options. Had the steak tips with rice and beans and ceasar salad. Very good, and did not get sick. Highly recommend.
June 2015 -- A pleasure to be able to eat Mexican food again! The staff is very well trained. Our waiter went through everything with me and made sure I was safe. Had no reaction and will definitely go back when in the area.
The rice and beans was amazing!

Staff is super knowledgeable and accommodating. Fiance (celiac) and I come here at least once a month and never have a problem with food. Skinny Marg is 100% gluten free, just ask for no triple sec.
Yes
I like to say thank you so much the howling Wolf. And The Waitresses who are very experience in gluten free . Never had problem Thank you. Cat🐱P.S very good food!!!
Giving 3 stars because I didn't get sick but the experience was wildly underwhelming. There was no gluten free menu or indication of items available gluten free on the menu and the server did not appear to be very knowledgeable. He appeared busy and like he didn't have much time to answer my questions so I just got rice, beans, and avocado instead of an entree.

Food was fantastic! The menu is not marked but there are a ton of GF options, several things can be adapted as well. A bummer that the fryer is shared, so no chips, but the server brought out special warned corn tortillas and a separate salsa for my daughter. Both celiac and non celiac said this was one of the best Mexican restaurants ever. I really appreciated having so many gf choices.

Very unprofessional and poor service. I called and ordered delivery at approximately 7:02pm and spoke to a lady on the phone who took my order and said my food would be here in about 45 min to 1 hour. I waited about 1 hour and 10min later I called around 8:12pm to ask about how much longer my order would take and the lady that answered said it will be another 20 minutes. I then asked her why it is taking more time when I was told it would be an hour max for delivery. She said that more orders came in after mine and they had to be delivered as well. I then asked "don't they deliver in the order the call is made?" And she said there was only one driver. I then asked for a manager and she put me on hold for a while. About five minutes later the driver showed up, so I hung up the phone while I was still on hold. I asked the driver why it took so long and he said he delivered everyone else's order first. I became upset hearing this and told him I was going to let the manager know about this experience because it wasn't right that my order was taken first and delivered last. I called the restaurant back and asked for a manager and a guy came on the phone named Dan was very rude. He didnt let me say anything or explain my issue. He said that the lady that answered the phone prior to him told him everything and he didnt need to hear me since he already knew. He was very unprofessional and spoke to me very disrepectfully. I asked him if he usually treats customers this way and he came back at me with a smart remark saying that I was rude and made the lady who answered the phone before him cry. This made me more frustrated and I just asked for the owners name and number and he then made a smart remark again that I needed to give him my name and phone number, I responded to him saying it was on my reciept. I then continued to ask for the owners name and contact info and he refused to give me the information. He even went as far as hanging up on me. I called back and asked for the owners info and he hung up on me again. This is very very very poor customer service. Very unprofessional for a manager and very disrepectful for customers. I was very disappointed, which is sad because I always order from here and they are always so nice.

The menu is not marked. You must go through everything with your server. I happened to have a good server so it went well, but did not like having to spend so much time ordering. The food was very good. Very loud and crowded. They had interesting cocktails made from Agave wine instead of tequila. After one of those, I did not care if it was too loud. So go for a walk after one of those before heading home.
The chips are fried in with flour items so the are not gf. They were very knowledgable though. Food was great lots of options. You may need to use the menu from website. They updated menu and does not have gf options listed.
Really delicious Mexican food! Plus their menu has a marker showing what is gluten free. Their servers were really nice and the food was made really quickly.
