This place is incredible!! Everyone is knowledgeable and very friendly/helpful! The calamari was so good. Got three different kind of lobster rolls on locally sourced gf bun that is surprisingly cohesive.

I was nervous to come here due to existing reviews on this app. I ended up coming twice and speaking to four servers and a manager. They recently went entirely gf, everything going into the frier is made with rice flour and the only gluten in the kitchen are the gluten buns. I ate here twice and had an amazing experience! Everyone was very well informed about celiac. I felt very confident eating here after asking them a bunch of questions, which they were very patient to answer!

So sick! Are you sure the soup is gluten free? IT IS NOT! Missed my tour of Portland thanks to this thoughtless waitress. Do not eat here if you have gluten allergies.

Lobster roll was great, however, I was originally told that the fryer was 100% gluten free. Unfortunately, I started feeling a little off about a day later and tried to ignore it or attribute it to somewhere else. I went back, and they told me the fryer is definitely NOT gluten free and is shared.
Disappointing that not all of their staff are aware of cross contamination protocols.

I really wanted this place to be good. We went on a Monday hoping it would be easy to get in but unfortunately two massive cruise ships made the place incredibly busy. When we tried to get in we were told the wait time would be long and to order online for take away instead. We ended up waiting longer for our take away than if we just waited for a table.
I ordered the the lobster BLT on the gf burger bun as other reviews said the lobster roll bun was almost inedible. I can say that it doesn’t matter which way your order… my burger bun was so dry that as soon as I tried to take a bite it cracked into pieces. I was unable to eat it and ended up just eating my burger fillings on its own.
While I appreciate they have gluten free offerings and do their best to accommodate, the execution was not good and was not worth the extra money spent to make it gf. If you order from here maybe try to order without any bun and just have lobster on its own.

UPDATE - 9/6/2023
We went back to Luke’s again and asked for the lobster roll to be on their GF hamburger bun instead of the hotdog buns and they were able to accommodate. REALLY recommend this should you eat at Lukes as the hotdog bun kind of stinks. Got the chowder too. They are great with GF, and even specify if it’s preference or allergy. We saw the receipt that goes to the cooks in the kitchen and celiac is in bold capital red letters. Love Luke’s!
UPDATE 1/3/2023 - went back for dinner last night because my partner was obsessed since our first experience was so great. We got the chowder this time which was incredible! The lobster still tasted great however worth noting that it came on a hotdog bun this time that was TERRIBLE. Ended up picking my lobster out and left the bun entirely. If possible, ask them to put it on a GF hamburger bun. The hotdog buns they used were borderline inedible.
Original review posted 6/2022: AMAZING GF lobster rolls, great with the allergy and info and the hamburger buns were the best we’ve ever had. Could not recommend more! Best lobster roll in Maine.

I got the Jonah crab roll it was really good staff was very knowledgeable, they have a gluten free space in the kitchen and no cross contamination! They have a lot of fried things on there menu as well all of which are gluten free safe except for the haddock. I definitely recommend this place for anyone who is celiac, I am super sensitive so they are definitely safe!

Had a great experience today at Luke's Lobster. They completely understood both celiac and a shellfish allergy. Those foods are brought out separately on plates with colors different from the regular food. My celiac daughter was thrilled with her burger and I though the fried clams (which did have gluten) were among the crispiest and tastiest I've had in Maine!

The waitress was extremely helpful and explained my options for adapting menu items. I had the lobster roll on a gf bun and a seasonal side salad. Fries were not an option. I did not care for the bun but the lobster was wonderful. We had it Maine style which is cold.

Went had the GF lobster roll. Ordered the potato salad and another waitress dropped off chips instead. She said potato salad wasn’t gluten free. Our waitress came up and was like oh no I’m positive it’s gluten free that the waitress was just confused. Andddd I was glutened….. left there and within 10 minutes of eating was very sick.

Went for lunch right when it opened and sat outside on the back porch overlooking the water. The views and the food were amazing. The waitress was extremely knowledgeable of the menu, precautions they took, and where cross-contamination occurs (e.g. shared fryer). I got the lobster roll with a gluten free bun which came with a sealed bag of cape cod chips (labeled gf). I also got the lobster bisque, which the waitress said was out-sourced and made by someone whose daughter has celiac disease! so not only are they safe and I had no reaction, the lobster bisque was really good!

Great Saturday night dinner had here mid Feb on a weekend away in Portland. Busy night and highly recommend reservations so you aren’t stuck waiting. We were sat on the upper level of the restaurant and although winter darkness obscured the view I’m sure it’s a lovely one during the day. I had a lovely cocktail with blueberry in it can’t remember which though. Thoroughly enjoyed all $40 of my large lobster roll (yes lobster is still expensive but I was celebrating my birthday so I was in a treat yo self mentality) as they have a smaller one with less meat on the menu. Can’t recall if gf was marked on the printed menu for all available options or safety of fryer, my meal came with potato chips. However when my boyfriends chowder was brought out the server noted it was gluten-free and had two spoons with it just in case. Boyfriend who is non gf had the fried haddock platter and noted the fish tasted like it could have been caught that day. We did not stay for dessert but enjoyed our dinner. Can’t wait to visit again soon.

If you want the BEST and SAFEST lobster rolls in Portland, go here!! My husband and I stopped here two days in a row because the food was so good! They were very careful with my food, and the bread that was used for our rolls was very good. It’s also a super generous portion of lobster, which comes with Cape Cod kettle chips and a pickle. We were very impressed.

Lots of gluten free options. Chips are from Cape Cod kettle chips, so they’re GF. An awesome experience and great food!

Had good experience. Waitress alerted us that fries were not safe and the mussels my son wanted were steamed in beer so we switched his order to the clams. Lobster bisque and clam chowder both GF and delicious. Yummy lobster roll (get the 4oz unless you are starving to death - I got 6oz and struggled to finish it after having bowl of soup first lol)

A series of Lobster Rolls🦞 Overall, I would give this place a solid 9/10. Great atmosphere, awesome staff, and good food! My only deduction was that the GF Bun on the lobster roll was just… not it, but the lobster and the lobster bisque was delightful! I would totally recommend this place, even just for the view! Also, the calamari on the menu says it’s “gluten friendly” but it’s really only for people who are very slightly sensitive or it’s just a dietary preference. It is NOT celiac safe so don’t order it.

I wanted to be able to say I tried lobster roll before heading home so I tried Luke's Lobsters. The waitress said she writes Celiac on the ticket and they do everything possible to keep it safe. The owner came out and spoke to us. He said they'd do everything possible but couldn't make guarantees since it was a mixed kitchen. But very comforting they take it so seriously. Just about everything except fried food could be made gluten free. The clam chowder was delicious. I didn't actually like the lobster roll but that was my very first time eating lobster. I'm happy I get to say I tried it. I'm very sensitive to gluten and can't guarantee I won't get sick later, but they really take it seriously and go out of their way to make you comfortable

I have not been able to have clam chowder since my celiac diagnosis and I was able to today. It was absolutely delicious and some with the lobster grill cheese. They also have a few cider options either on tap or in a bottle. Not sure if I was able to have the downeast (the one on tap) because of CC but they had shacksbury cider in a can. Hostess and server very knowledgeable of celiac and did inform me that the fried seafood was gf but it’s in a shared frier. Absolutely recommended eating here. Plus if you’re into truffle anything they have a gf truffle better lobster roll..
