Had a great meal at Skull Creek Dockside. GF menu and they were able to make the kid’s pulled pork sandwich with a GF bun for my son.

The setting was lovely, place was lively. There is a GF menu but the waitress failed to bring it twice. She was very personable but slow. I couldn't tell how careful the kitchen was being but I didn't get immediately ill.

Waiter was extremely knowledgeable about gluten and cross contamination. They do still have dedicated gluten free dryers. I got the fried oysters. The food was really good. Separate gluten free menu.

THIS LOCATION IS NO LONGER CELIAC SAFE. DO NOT COME HERE.
This place used to have a gluten free fryer.
A screaming, SCREAMING emphasis on USED TO.
I have been here before. I asked if they still had this fryer. I was told yes. I ate my food and became extremely sick. Asked. And turns out they got rid of their separate gluten free prepping areas, fryer included, to cut costs. Not all the waitstaff knew this.

We ordered GF calamari and were clear about the allergy situation. Our daughter has celiac and became sick almost immediately. We had to cancel our entree order and leave. I was shocked that they still charged us for the calamari. We’d eaten here before, and had the calamari with no issues. Sadly this time it was a terrible experience.

All their gluten free fried foods are washed in milk. That meant I could not have any of those items since I also have a dairy allergy. I ended up with chicken wings and steamed cauliflower and rice and beans. Not what I was hoping for at a seafood restaurant. A staff member was rude to me when I asked him to double check that the seasoning on the food was actually GF.

They took such great care of us here. Our server was incredibly knowledgeable about gluten and celiac. And when our son did not like what he ordered, they brought him something else and did their best to make sure he was happy.

I wanted to love this place because I was so excited about the fried pickles, but it was disappointing for so many reasons. 1) I’m not sure if I got glutened or if I just had a bad reaction to the low quality fryer oil, but I bloated like a balloon almost instantly after finishing my appetizer. 2) I ended up taking my entree to go because I felt so terrible after the appetizer, but I got the wedge salad and added grilled chicken. It was was the plainest salad you could imagine - iceberg lettuce, tomato, red onion, a tiny bit of avocado - and it was $20. We’ll definitely be skipping this one next year!

I had delicious fried shrimp and fries, with coleslaw! The shrimp were huge and fantastic. They have a separate fryer for their GF fried items. I’m also dairy free and was able to enjoy this meal. Dre was our server and was so helpful and knowledgeable about allergies and the cross contamination! Can’t wait to come back.

Server initially stated that they were told the restaurant was not safe for celiac despite gluten free. Spoke to manager after who reassured safety and protocols. Entire table ordered off gluten free menus but server noted 2 members with celiac. Regular non-gluten free sides were brought for non celiac table members. Ordered shrimp and grits and a uncooked noodle was found and unfortunately did not see gluten free pasta on menu.

Extensive gf menu including things like fried pickles and fried pickled okra which were outstanding. The server asked if I were intolerant or celiac, and stated they have a dedicated fryer but that they can’t guarantee that the brand of gf cornmeal they use is without cross contamination. I don’t cook a lot of fried foods at home, but have missed having something like fried shrimp occasionally. I had the beet salad with grilled shrimp. It says it comes with candied walnuts in the description on the gf menu but those were not on it. I usually love a beet salad but this one was served on kale which is not my favorite. The balsamic dressing was very good. I will definitely try this place again.

We had a fabulous dinner at Skull Creek dockside tonight. Our waitress was so knowledgeable about celiac and helped guide us to the safe options on the very extensive GF menu. We shared oysters, shrimp and grits and baked grouper. Everything was fantastic - one of the best meals of our trip. Aside from the food, the view is incredible - the restaurant sits on the banks of the river overlooking the marshland. We will be coming back!

I really enjoyed being able to choose from so many gluten free items, and the broiled flounder, rice and beans( very interesting), and steamed veggies were delicious! We will be returning during our stay in Hilton Head! Also, I felt very confident that my menu was gluten free, and our server, Tre, was very polite! Thank you!!

I'm about to cry. I have Celiac's and haven't eaten anything fried from a restaurant in 7 years. They have a full gluten free menu and made sure to keep our food separate. One of us also has a shellfish allergy and they made sure their fish was cooked in different oil, couldn't be fried because that oil is shared with shellfish. The fact that they came out and said sorry we can't fry the shellfish allergy meal was huge! And they marked each GF meal separate. This was the best meal I've had in years. If you have Celiac's, you understand. Three of us have Celiac's and none of us had a reaction. Fried shrimp, flounder, okra, and pickles. My only regret is that it took a few years to find this during our annual vacation. They also have amazing drinks. The non celiacs people also loved their meal. Plenty of vegetarian options. They took our allergies seriously and it was so good I can't get over it.

With so many good reviews and having talked to the manager ahead of time on the phone, we expected our experience to be different than it was. Tons of GF options, and the food is delicious, but it didn’t feel as safe for celiac as I expected. The waitress started by saying the fryer is dedicated BUT they can’t guarantee no cross contact. My daughter wanted the GF pizza but we asked the waitress to check with the kitchen on how they prepare it and she said they bake the GF pizza on a shared pizza stone, so that’s not celiac safe. The food was amazing, and in the end my daughter did not get sick, so obviously it was safe, but I expected to feel 100% comfortable and I didn’t. We did try fried items and they were delicious. The potato skins were the hit of the day. It was just more nerve wracking than we expected.

This place was amazing. Nice gf menu and some of the specials were also gf. I had crab legs but the best part was I had breaded and fried shrimp and fries. They use cornmeal for the breading. Dedicated fryer. It was delicious and the view was nice. The restaurant staff was so friendly. I’d so go again.

Was disappointed when they brought my husbands gf meal out with non gf bread. Waiter said Mac and cheese was gf but after the bread we weren’t sure. Also carried all meals out together risking cross contamination. Fortunately daughters steak was fine and she did not get sick but did not feel comfortable.

Dockside has been a godsend!!! I grew up going to Hilton Head all my life and dockside is one of the best restaurants on the island for both celiac and non celiac customers alike. The celiac options are fantastic and the staff is super knowledgeable about cross contamination to the point where they have a dedicated gluten free fryer! Such a blessing to have this as such a wonderful spot - we ate here twice in one week and I felt great both times.

Very impressed with this restaurant and the service! Our daughter has celiac disease and gets very sick. Our server was super knowledgeable and we wanted to get her fish and chips off the kids' menu, and they made a special fried cod in cornmeal. They use dedicated fryers. The regular menu was also delicious. My daughter loved her meal. Our server, Alex, went above and beyond.

I was so excited to find a restaurant that does fried food gluten free! And I was pleasantly surprised at how tasty it was! So delicious and crispy! I only give it 4 instead of 5 stars because I forgot to confirm that it was a dedicated fryer and I did feel a little off later. I called the next day to ask and only got a recording so I couldn’t verify. So I recommend double checking that. But otherwise it was terrific food and an extensive GF menu too.
