Oh my god the Focacaccia and the burgers. I feel like I finally had a real meal for the first time in a month without having to deny myself anything or look longingly at someone elses plate! This is my new favorite restaurant!
First thing the hostess asked, after how many people in our party, was if anyone had a gluten allergy or sensitivity. This started out our dining experience on the right foot! They have a full separate GF menu with appetizers, soups and main courses. Not just a couple choices! The server also asked first thing too about allergies. We ordered the GF calamari as an appetizer ...EXCELLENT! Highly recommend ordering! My main course was the breaded fish sandwich with fries, this was a messy sandwich and needed a little extra tarter, but it was great. The kids menu choices were a little pricey for what was provided. We arrived for our meal about 20 minutes before closing (since we had to find a gf place, of course). They were extremely accommodating and didn't give the impression that we were a hindrance which we knew we were. All of the staff was fantastic. Highly recommend this restaurant!
Excellent menu with many appealing options. Great fish sandwich and cole slaw. Just beware. Tell them to hold the sriracha if you don't want it very hot.
Excellent. Almost didn't order the fried calamari because the menu says its spicy and I don't like spicy. So I asked for it without peppers and it was divine. Had the chicken sandwich with fresh cut fries. All was great. Waiting on pumpkin creme brûlée right now and can't wait! I haven't eaten since this morning and I am stuffed but it's all so good!
Love love love Burton's. The owner is a fellow celiac, so he has made his restaurants safe havens for us all, Go, enjoy, eat without fear. I have celiac and I ate twice here a few weeks ago. No issues at all. Just a full tummy!! The service is superb and the burgers and fries-- just amazing. Even the warm GF bread was good (and those can suck, let's be honest!) If I still lived in the area, I'd eat there all the time. Thank you, Burton's!!!
We went back for lunch and it was pretty good. We had hamburgers and French fries and the hamburger buns were locally made and delicious. We just wish they didn't char all of their meats. I would give them a 5 star rating if not for that. We definitely feel safe eating there, though, and will go back. .
Excellent place for those with celiac. Greeted by being asked if we needed a gf menu at the front. Then greeted by the waiter asking if anyone was gf and then fully explained how they make sure that plates, dishes are kept separate. Food options were absolutely awesome and did not just include menu items without the wheat products but actually were their own creations and everything we ate was top notch!! Every person on staff was super nice and clearly felt pride and enjoyment in the place they worked. This place is at the top of my list from now on!
My go to dinner place, never had a bad meal here or been cross contaminated. Service is always friendly.
Steak frites were amazing! GF bread they bring out in the beginning reminds me of the bread I used to be able to eat before my gluten intolerance. I will be back!
If you're thinking about going here -- run, don't walk to Burton's! Their risotto balls are incredible! Very knowledgeable staff. Had a burger on GF bun and fries. Everything tastes great. Will definitely be back.
Staff very knowledgeable! They use different plates for gf food. They have a great menu. Food and rolls were delicious!!!!
Dedicated GF menu and very aware of cross contamination and cooking. Love their calamari.
Very aware of gluten free needs and very helpful! Food was delicious! Will definitely come back!
Had the gluten free chicken parm over angel hair pasta. The best I've had since going gluten free 6 years
great options. great attention to detail.
Staff was great, they brought me a GF roll and my GF meal on a different shaped plate than my children's meals. Server and manager were well trained on GF and celiac.
I have been gluten free for 6 years due celiac and this is the first restaurant I trust completely! They are fabulous. Everyone is knowledgable, menu is fantastic. I believe that except for one appetizer everything on the menu is gluten free. We go weekly!
Excellent for gluten free! Best restaurant!
Excellent menu, great attention to all food allergies, and delicious!
My favorite nice dinner out. Full GF menu. Understand celiac. Separate area in kitchen. Meals are kept separate. They are impressive with outstanding food.
Best gf restaurant by far!!
Delicious. Well aware for those with Celiac. Separate menu. Management knowledge and understanding considering his children suffer as well from Celiac
Great gluten-free food. Strongly suggest!
Tons of delicious choices and wonderful service
Love it here!! They have great choices for Gf appetizers!
Excellent food. Very knowledgable.
As soon as we came in they asked if anyone needed a gluten sensitive menu (awesome) and the waitress also asked immediately if anyone had an allergies. I had the tacos and fries from a dedicated fryer! Awesome. I have celiac.
We come here multiple times when we visit Charleston. Never been disappointed. So many great GF choices! We learned on this lay visit that the president of the company has Celiac's so they have been GF since the very beginning. They go above and beyond! The shrimp and lobster pasta is GF and amazing! The risottos are fabulous.
Burtons is hands down the best place in the area for Gluten Free Food. Not only do they have a separate menu (with 95% of the items on the regular menu), they have a separate frylator, square plates only for GF, circle for normal, manager delivers food separately, delicious warm rolls, and great steak, seafood, etc... LOVE LOVE LOVE
Good food, great service, very knowledgeable & conscious of us Celiac's, loved their cheesecake & ancinni but only negative & it was a big one with my wife; it's a very noisy/loud dining room area, you to scream to talk to your partner, it's bad but...Food & service was good!
Words cannot describe how wonderful Burtons is about GF food. They have a great, varied GF menu, and they are incredibly diligent about getting it right. Servers won't even carry a GF dish at the same time as a non-GF dish! Burtons can even do most of its kids' menu GF. We have eaten there dozens of times and NEVER had an issue.
I've eaten at Burton's many times- the Mt Pleasant location as well as one in Massachusetts. Many gluten free options and I never worry about cross contamination here. They serve gluten free food on a different shape plate than gluten containing items; easy to spot the difference if you look. The food itself is solid- my favorite item on the whole menu is the fried calamari and hot pepper appetizer. It's hard to find fried gluten free food so I like to indulge on the rare occasion I happen upon any..... I've eaten lots of the entrees as well but would choose the calamari and a side salad over anything else. I like Burton's for my two celiac kids as well- their children's menu is called "B Choosey" and is all about giving young diners ample meal customization. Portions are very large and my kids get a kick out of being able to eat virtually anything on the menu- a true treat when dining out is often about what they "can't" eat.
GREAT knowledge of dietary needs! First thing the waiter asked when we sat down was if anyone had dietary allergies. Full gluten free menu full of great options. Not to mention, the food is delicious! As a Midwestern vacationer, I would highly recommend to all locals and tourists
HUGE gluten free menu! The first time I went I was debating between 4 options because everything looked so good. I even got an extra side. The buffalo chicken dip is delicious and not super hot, I get it every single time and for carry. The burgers are also delicious especially with bacon. So many sandwich options and the plates always look beautiful. At my location they have some device that they type in and it instantly sends back the orders so your food comes out really fast!!
Really good food. I didn't have any issues with cross contamination. The waitress made me feel very comfortable eating there. One of the owners has celiac disease.
Burtons Grill is the safest place to dine in Charlottesville for people who have Celiac Disease. The staff prepares food in a separate kitchen, uses dedicated fryers, and serves gluten-sensitive food on square plates. (All other food is served on round plates.) The menu is extensive and the service is always pleasant.
I have celiac and have never had a problem dining here. The staff is incredibly kind and friendly and are very conscious of allergies, with the kitchen never failing to serve a delicious meal that is also safe to eat. My recommendation however is to stay very alert, if you are brought your order on a circle plate instead of a square, then there was a mix up and you should alert the server to it. Overall 10/10 I'm a Burton's regular and always enjoy the night's that I choose to eat here.
Delicious food that we keep coming back to, but I have experienced cross contamination. It's best to eat here at slower times. I've only ever gotten sick at popular times. Considering the lack of celiac friendly dining in Charlottesville, this is a good choice for lunch or dinner.
I was skeptical going in, but it was a fantastic experience. They really know their food, and what's better: they know their allergies. Most of their food is inherently gluten free and they are hyper aware of gluten as an allergen. They present a gluten free menu that I assumed was the real menu, because it had most of the food on it. Burger was phenomenal, probably the best I've ever had. Gluten free bun and the highest quality beef you could ask for. Great atmosphere and good service. Gluten free beers on tap, as well as ciders. Will visit again tl;dr - Great food, large selection, good atmosphere, good service, will visit again
Definitely know their gf food. The food was good, not great. Their fries are in a dedicated fryer, but were a little burnt. Had lots of dessert options, and we had the berry cheesecake. It was good, just not a traditional cheesecake and overly sweet. Overpriced as well.
had chicken sanbwich. The chicken was tough and dry. The sandwhich was flavorless and the fries were soggy.
The hostess asked about allergy issues right off the bat and let us know the whole kids' menu can be ordered gluten free. My picky daughter loved her chicken tenders and our food was great too. The staff was very aware. This is a great option for people with celiac and we will definitely be back often.
Great gf menu with many choices. They even make a gluten & dairy free risotto! My wife is very sensitive....we ate here twice with no issues. You will love this place!
amazing place. they cater to all allergies and are very knowledgeable.
Went there for graduation dinner. Awesome menu and very knowledgeable about celiac disease and how to handle food. First time I have eaten out without fear in a long time. Will be back.
This place knows how to do gluten free. The servers and Managers are very attentive and they have a great gluten free menu. The bread and herb butter is delicious. The calamari is so good. I enjoy getting the hamburger with fries and onion rings but other meals are also good as are the deserts. They also host gluten free dinners which are great. I just wish this restaurant was closer to my house but it is worth the drive.
I have had the exact same experience as everyone else. Very GF conscious and educated staff, great GF bread, the best GF pasta I have ever had. I had to ask the waitress if it was really GF, it was so good. She explained about the square plates meaning a GF meal. I wish I could give them more than 5 stars!! Love, love, love this place!!!
black bean burger was delicious. the restaurant is gluten free by default for all of their offerings. if you want pasta or bread they have gluten free options also
