I’ve been here multiple times and have always had an excellent experience. Staff has always been knowledgeable and uses new gloves, pulls out a separate cutting board, and will grab a new or safely cut piece of meet from the warmer or from the kitchen. They have an allergen PDF on their website. All meat is GF (except the fried options) and many of the sides / sauces are safe. Unfortunately no dedicated GF fryer.
Caution if going during busy hours (especially weekends), there will be a LONG line!

Do not go here if you have celiac. The person at the counter to order was totally rude to me last night when I was trying to place my order and explain I have an allergy, even though they have a tile on the wall that says “tell us if you have an allergy”. Then she made some snarky comment to one of her coworkers when doing the glove change. But what was worst of all, I got horribly sick and was vomiting all night last night because of this food. I’ll never be back. It was a terrible experience.

Super knowledgeable staff. GF items marked on the menu. Changed gloves. Prepared GF food separately from non-GF items ordered with our group. Used a separate cutting board and utensils. Celiac daughter felt acknowledged and heard at this place! Wish we had one by us !!

Safe for celiacs! (as safe as any other non-dedicated GF kitchen) I’m super sensitive and have dined here multiple times without issues. They do not take reservations and the line gets very long on the weekends! They have online ordering but I always order in person so I can see them taking cross-contamination precautions in person :)
Staff was very knowledgeable and cleaned up the work space, changed gloves, and got a new cutting board before preparing my food.

This was a great experience. I told them I was celiac and they knew exactly what to do. They cleaned off the prep area, got new knives, changed gloves, even got out new brisket and sausages from the oven to cut from. The meal was delicious.

Was in Charleston on vacation and had heard that Lewis BBQ had good barbecue so I wanted to try it. The sliced brisket I had was so good! The server was very knowledgeable about celiac and was very conscious about cross contact. He changed his gloves and got a new board and knife. After putting on clean gloves he was so careful he wouldn’t even touch the handle on the meat locker. I felt very safe eating there. He also let me know what sides were gluten free and safe for me to have. The other staff was also knowledgeable, as the next server helped with the sides. It was a great experience, and the dinner was so good. Loved it.

So I also have a soy and dairy allergy. All the meats have soy in the Worcestershire sauce except the sausage but they have dairy. The food looked great but I couldn't eat much. Just as a heads up for multiple allergy people.

I told them I had celiac and they knew what to do immediately- changed gloves, changed cutting board, let the others around them know, moved the bread away, got a new knife, and put everything on a separate tray. I felt so safe eating here.

Wow. Unreal. I felt so normal… celiac is no big deal… as soon as they find out they happily change gloves, knives, cutting board etc… Food is amazing

Perfect experience! I had eaten here once before I was diagnosed years ago and wanted to try again. Get yourself a margarita in line and enjoy the experience. I was there during a very busy time and it was not embarrassing at all to say I was celiac. You order away from other people, and they immediately knew what to do by changing gloves, cutting board and let the people next to them know. We ordered brisket as a family and they just put any sides that I could not have on a separate tray. I then grabbed all my food before anyone else started to eat. 24 hours later and zero symptoms! I hade brisket with tangy sauce, both types of sausage, potato salad, pickles, pickled onions and collards. Yummy!

They were very helpful and knowledgeable. As soon as you say allergy they change their gloves, clean up the area they prepare the meat. Get a new cutting board and knife and fresh untouched meats. Some of the best meats I've had

Really great BBQ! They were knowledgeable about celiac, once I let them know they changed gloves, cutting board, knife, and brought out new meats. All meat is GF. The only sides that were GF are the vegetables and beans. The fries are beer battered and not GF.

Love this place!!! Best BBQ I’ve ever had! I told the person serving me I had a gluten allergy and she immediately switched gloves and cutting board/utensils. She also let the rest of the staff members know that would be serving me. Could not eat the chips because they’re fried in the same oil as the beer-battered fries. My husband got the fries and they put them in a separate dish so it wouldn’t contaminate anything else on the tray. The sauces are gluten free. I also got the potato salad which was delicious. All staff members were very knowledgable and helpful.

I just called to place an order and explained the whole celiac thing and the restaurant told me that they don’t have “separate” cutting boards so they can’t guarantee that there wouldn’t be any cross contact. I was very surprised since some reviews said that they had separate cutting boards but she pretty much said the best they could do was use a different side of the cutting board….which is a no go for celiac. Could have been an employee that just didn’t know ??

When I told them gf, they asked if for celiac. They washed their hands, changed gloves, and got a new thing of pulled pork out to get mine.

Amazing! I was unsure standing in line - I ordered the prime rib and said I had a gluten allergy. Immediately they changed their gloves, brought out a new cutting board and utensils, and communicated with the rest of the workers on the line. Very impressed, felt safe eating here!

I said “celiac,” and the people on the line immediately began a glove change. Then one went to the back for the GF cutting board because they use the main cutting board for meat and bread. Everything on the menu was GF except 2 sides. The food was great, which is high praise coming from this Texan!

Extremely happy with the cross contamination concern! After finding out we were celiac (I told them a little late), he started over with our order (and didn't make me feel bad about it!). Everythings GF except corn pudding, Mac and cheese and fries. And it was delicious!

Dude, or dudette, this bbq place rocks. Get ready for a 20 min line. But there’s a bar along the line. The meats are heavenly. Brisket, pulled pork, ribs, etc are GF, abd sides are too like the Cole slaw, but not the fries. Nacho chips are cooked in same fryer as beer bartered other items. They will change the cutting board and their gloves in a heartbeat. Outstanding bbq joint.

Our family shared a huge platter filled with most of their different kinds of meat. The brisket was my favorite! I did have some of their beans but I’m not a huge fan of pinto beans. Didn’t have any issues afterwards. Would definitely go back!

All meats are gluten free. If you tell them you're celiac or gf, they change gloves, get a cutting board and knife from the back, and a new piece of meat. However, I've eaten here 3 times and it wrecked my stomach each time. I was thinking it was because I ate too much brisket each time (hard not too because it's delicious) but after my most recent visit, I've decided I won't be back.

Besides the hour long wait, it was a fantastic experience. When I told them I had a gluten allergy they changed gloves, got a clean cutting board and knife, got a fresh piece of meat out of the warmer, and made sure there was no cross contamination. Tons of options - I had the pulled pork, a slice of turkey and potato salad. Delicious!!

Ate here last night. Ordered the beef brisket, cole slaw, and pinto beans. Was sick the rest of the night immediately after ingestion. While the staff changed gloves, prepared a “clean” workspace, and identified the GF meats and sides for me, I still became extremely ill. I would avoid this place if you have Celiac disease. There is too much cross contamination.

All the meat is marked gluten free, the house sauces are gluten free and so are most of the side. I got pulled pork, a sausage link, collard greens & potato salad and chose the green Chile sauce. It was all delicious!! When I told them I had a gluten allergy, the team changed gloves, cleaned the area, and brought in new utensils & cutting board. Super impressed. Great experience.

All the meats and sauces were gluten free! I told them we had celiac and they immediately took off gloves, took all their utensils to the back, and cleaned their table. Came back with a clean cutting board, grabbed new gloves and utensils for us. The preparers brought out new sides with clean utensils for our order. The fries aren’t gluten free.

They change gloves and cutting boards/knife in front of you. The brisket was great, the sausage had a good flavor but I am not a fan of tough sausage casings. The pickles were fantastic. Not many of the sides are gluten free. Great experience

When you get to the counter to order and tell the person you have celiac, they change gloves and get a new cutting board and knife, then that staff member handles your sides for you as well. Besides the meats, a good number of their sides and their sauces also are GF. Great outdoor seating! And great takeout

Their food is amazing and their staff is well trained. None of the meat has gluten in the spice or sauces. All sauces are made in house and are GF. Some of the sides, including the potato salad, collards and beans, are GF. If you say you have an allergy or are celiac, they will bring out a clean cutting board and knife and cut only from uncut meats. Safest place in town for celiacs and I run into many here who say it’s the only place they feel comfortable going to. Amazing food too!
