Update: The manager of Takito responded to my email and I was very impressed. They apologized and said they would immediately be training and implementing new allergy protocols with staff. They invitedcme back with a gift card. I will update after I return! But I increased my rating based on the positive response and how caring and serious about allergies the manager appeared to be! **
I used to go here often, always felt safe and confident, and recommended it to my friends with allergies. I was able to eat almost everything on the menu safely. HOWEVER-- recently, within the past couple weeks, I had very confusing and scary experiences at this restaurant and will no longer return, nor can I recommend others with Celiac or others with allergies go here unless this restaurant fixes their issues.
The past 2 times I ate here, I had a waitress who was incredibly unclear and confusing/confused about my gluten free needs. I explained to her multiple times that I have a gluten allergy (which is what I always say, because not everyone understands Celiac or that it's autoimmune)... My husband and I were one of 2-3 couples in the ENTIRE restaurant (it was basically empty) and she FORGOT what my allergy was, coming back to the table later and letting me know she rembered my PEANUT allergy. I was like...no, I don't have a peanut allergy! Gluten ! I have a gluten allergy!
Then she told me I couldn't eat the majority of the tacos as they were unsafe for me... and I was extra confused because the ones she said I couldn't eat were ones I've safely eaten in the past. I asked her to check with the kitchen and she claimed that she did. She then proceeded to tell me which ones were safe for me, which I later found out were incorrect. Because of this, I ended up eating the one taco on the menu that is not gluten free and proceeded to get very sick.
She came across as confused/confusing, and so flippant about my serious allergy... I'm still in shock. I emailed Takito 2 days ago to see their response and to let them know their lack of care for us with allergies is dangerous... and no one responded to me. Please do not eat here and risk having an allergic reaction or getting glutened!

Been here a few times and not even an iota of ickiness.
The dinner menu is currently gluten free.
No cider on the menu.
I agree with others though, the staff is not knowledgeable.
I always mention I am Celiac just in case something has changed.
The food is good, not amazing or crave-able but it's close to home and so far reliable. I meet friends here often.

Very confused. After coming here for almost a year and never having a problem, today the waitress said the chips weren’t gluten free (this was after I ate an entire bowl). With confusion I asked if this had recently changed bc I have never had a problem or reaction in the past. She was very confused. I was baffled at how I had been eating the chips here for the last year and have never had an issue so I Brought a chip home and tested it with my Nima. Tested gluten free and I feel fine so I’m not sure what went on tonight. Iv never had a problem here besides this one instance.

This used to be a gluten free establishment and during covid their menu has changed to include gluten in their menu items. When you call the staff is unsure of what does or doesn’t contain gluten. They are not even aware beer contains gluten, which they had added to a menu item. Very disappointing because before covid the entire menu was gluten free. If you need the staff to be knowledgeable about cross contamination and new menu items, do not eat here.

Drinks are good. Had guac and chips and shrimp tacos. All delicious. Ask for no cilantro on guac if you aren’t a fan. Didn’t get sick.
Yes
All GF and very delicious! Lamb tacos were our favorite with shrimp tacos right behind.

Everything is GF. Food was creative and delicious. Excellent margaritas

Takito used to be one of my favorites, but they recently added flour tortillas, waffles, and non-GF fried items to their menu. My friend and I both got glutened and they still say their menu is 100% GF! Manager wouldn’t call or email me back and I won’t be returning to Takito unfortunately. Beware of cross contamination and avoid this place!

I love this place - entirely gf, amazing innovative tacos, great margaritas and lively atmosphere that works for kids as well. Wish I lived in Chicago!

Have been here twice this year- in July and November. Both times AMAZING! I'm Celiac and dairy free. So delish. Great vibe. Drinks are amazing. Might have to make this my usual spot in Chi town. LOVE

The staff was energetic and the whole menu was gluten free! I even got a seasonal margarita, which was stellar 😊
Yes
Entire menu is GF. They make fresh corn tortillas to order. The tacos were pretty good. I had the lamb, pork belly, and crusted fish tacos. The Fresca’s are pretty good too for a non-alcoholic choice. I would give them 5 stars for GF, but gave 4 based on taco preferences/quality. A must try if you’ve never been.
Yes
Their entire menu is gluten free. It was nice to have chips, tacos, etc. and feel safe. Everything was tasty too.

Awesome street taco place and entire menu (minus the french toast) is gf. They say they change the deep fryer oil after the weekend and the crispy fish during the week is gf, but I don’t quite believe that so I just steer clear... not a big issue since all the other tacos will blow your mind. The chips and shared plates are also really solid!

This is my FAVORITE restaurant in Chicago- been going here since it opened. I prefer this location to the River North one- it’s a lot more “chill” and the menu has more tacos. Seriously the most delicious tacos ever. And the margaritas are wonderful, I usually get whatever the “seasonal” margarita is at that time. Go!!!!!

My husband and I really enjoyed our meal here. It was so great that my Celiac husband could order anything off the menu. They said everything is GF except for a couple brunch items. We tried their guacamole, 3 types of tacos, the corn, and margaritas. Everything was fresh and tasty. Service was good too. The owner checked in us to make sure our experience was good and also told us about his other location which we hope to visit soon. The space is very cool too and they have a small outoor area with seating. Overall we had a great experience and look forwars to returning.
Yes
The entire kitchen is gluten free. The only gluten containing items are the drinks. Everything tasted good and I didn't get sick.

The whole menu is GF including crispy stuff! Plus it has amazing food! I will definitely be going back.

Great food. Love it! almost everything is gluten free.
Yes
Totally celiac safe. Almost everything is gluten free, the whole taco menu is, they have fried french toast on Saturday and Sunday that isnt gluten free but everything else is. The fried chicken tacos, only available Wednesday, were incredible. I also had the vegan tacos which were delicious. I had leftovers and ate one at home with a runny fried egg and it was perfect. Their chips and salsa are also delicious. Edit fish tacos are also some of the best tacos I’ve ever had

menu proudly states everything (minus the French toast) is gluten free, but don’t be lulled into a false sense of security... the free cinnamon sugar crisps on our table turned out to be made with flour tortillas when we asked which then made me wonder where the heck they fried them and if in the process they opened up the Pandora’s box of cross contamination... fortunately I didn’t get any reaction and my chorizo potato tacos were delicious. Still, I could have done without the uncertainty.

Yeah man. This place was safe, the server was cool and didn't stress out about my celiac cross contamination paranoia, and the food was damn good. Note that it's not totally gluten free on weekends because they have French toast, which also means the fryer is not safe on weekends (they change out the fryer on Mondays) aka avoid the fish tacos on weekends. But I asked them to change gloves before making my dish and they were cool with it. Had a great and safe experience!

The fact that this is (not officially) a gluten-free facility (their brunch french toast brings wheat into ‘da house) just became a secondary reason to come here. Its Michelin Star restaurant rating is here for a reason. The food is simply amazing. As a Celiac...I can’t believe what I just experienced. You can’t go wrong with a thing on the menu, and the margarita’s are also to die for (and I’m picky about them, especially since I normally can only drink while watching friends eat!). The atmosphere gets a huge thumbs up too. A foodie’s dream. We will be back!

Everything is gluten free and it is delicious!! The margaritas were tasty and they had a variety of fun options. The tacos were amazing. Staff was friendly and provided great service. Fun atmosphere for small or larger groups. You won’t be disappointed!

This place was fantastic. Everything on the menu was gluten free and my non-gf Chicagoan hosts were super impressed and grateful to know about this gem. Love love.

I was in Chicago a few weeks ago and went to Takito Kitchen. Everything was gluten free. I had a wonderful experience. The tacos and drinks were amazing and the service was outstanding. I was even able to get dessert.

Fabulous restaurant! The tacos are AMAZING! Everything on the menu if GF, the fried fish tacos are fantastic! The menu is obviously carefully articulated for delicious flavor combinations for each dish. I recommend for any Celiac, and just anyone in general! My non-Celiac (gluten loving) husband was incredibly impressed as well!

Entire Menu is Gluten free! Love the atmosphere, service is super and the food is fantastic. My celiac self visits often!
So happy "Find me gf" directed us here! Would be considered pricey for ordinary tacos--but these are not ordinary! Would love to explore the other options on the menu!

Yummy GF taco options! The staff was knowledgable!

Super delicious tacos and everything on the menu is gluten-free, so it's easy to share! The service was amazing and the margaritas were great. Our waitress wasn't bothered when I continued to double check everything was gluten-free even after being told the whole menu is. Would highly recommend!

this place was amazing! The food was great! I went here for a dinner date with my 1 year old. we had crispy fish tacos and tomatillo pistachio salsa. They cut up some fruit for my son, which is so so nice. 100% reccomend.

Staff are knowledgeable and most of the tacos are gluten-free.
Delicious food!! Most of the menu is gluten free and staff is knowledgeable. Had tacos and gluten free chips with avocado purée- didn't get sick (I am celiac).

The hostess, Katie, and our waiter, Bobby, were really wonderful about helping me determine what I could eat given my numerous dietary restrictions (gluten, dairy, eggs, soy, vinegar). They worked with the kitchen to ensure I would have a safe and tasty meal. I got an order of the crispy fish tacos (they use rice flour), and an order of the lamb tacos. Both were delicious, even with avocado being substituted for the fixings they are usually served with in order to accommodate my dietary restrictions. My husband loved his Amish chicken tacos and La Paloma cocktail. We will definitely return!
Great food! Awesome service! Try the polenta and margaritas!

Some of the best food I've ever had. Ever. Pork belly taco is incredible, the website makes the restaurant more casual, but it's trendy and a bit upscale, perfect for a date night, girls night, or for a family dinner. ENTIRE MENU IS GF, servers are knowledgeable, helpful, and subtle about making sure you get what you need!
Great creative and delicious tacos. All items are gluten free except for the masa crackers that come with the salsas, but they have rice crackers as a replacement. They were voted one of the best 25 restaurants in Chicago.
